Gent Traveling to Gent by Eurostar
Posted: Tue September 29, 2009 07:21 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'm travelling to Gent by Eurostar from london in a couple of weeks and have 2 questions regarding my journey:

1) I understand I have to change trains at Brussels (I think) - is it then obvious which platform to go to for the Gent Train?

2) I am staying at a hotel on Waaistraat. I see it is quite a long walk from the station so was thinking of getting a taxi (there are 4 of us) however, someone has suggested we could take the tram - is this much cheaper, and how will i know which one to get?

Any tips would be much appreciated - thanks! :)

Gent Rec needed for budget Gent hotel
Posted: Fri September 18, 2009 08:06 PM UTC
Could I please have your recommendations for a budget hotel or bed and breakfast in Gent? Under 75 euros is preferred. A basic place is fine, but I'd like a place centrally located with convenient access to the train station. Thanks.

Gent Brugge to Gent
Posted: Thu March 19, 2009 03:03 AM UTC
Hi, we are planning to go to Brugge in May, and then to go to Gent.
I looked up a train schedule, and it shows that from Brugge to Gent it takes only 20-25 minutes. Is it really so? Could anyone please confirm that?
If it's true, then we may stay in Brugge all this time and just have day trips to Gent (accomodation in Brugge is much cheaper)? What would you say?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Gent flight baptism... to Gent :)
Posted: Thu February 12, 2009 10:03 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
I'm going to stay in G(h)ent with 10 colleagues, for a week and a half in March.
We will fly on Brussels Airlines and arrive at the international brussels airport and then we should catch a train, right? (from what I've read I think it's the best option...).
I have some questions that I wanted to ask you:
1- the train station is "inside" or near the airport?
2- is this train direct to ghent? or does it have any stop or line changes?

To return home we will catch the Ryanair flight in charleroi airport...
Questions:
3- what is the best way to get to Charleroi from Gent? (train, bus?)
4- how long does the train/bus takes, to get from G(h)ent to Charleroi? (the flight is at 16h45)

Thanks in advance ;)

Gent Central accomodation in Gent
Posted: Sun October 19, 2008 06:02 AM UTC
Hi, could anyone living in Gent area advise me on the following locations, I mean, how central they are? All websites claim that they are "in the heart of historical Gent", but I have my doubts (as always):
1)Zwartezustersstraat 3
2)Burgstraat 11
3)Stoppelstraat 16
4)Corduwaniersstraat 11

Thanks!

Gent B&B near Sint-Pieter's Railway station - safe area?
Posted: Mon September 1, 2008 05:41 PM UTC
Hello everyone :)
I might be travelling to Belgium in mid November (one week trip). Decided to visit Bruges, Antwerpen, Brussels and, of course, Gent. Also decided to stay most of the nights in Gent and travel by train to other, above mentioned places (except Brussels, will move there for 2 last nights). Therefore would like to stay in a B&B near the railway station. At the same time, I am bit afraid whether the area is safe? I consider the following guesthouses: Chambre Eau - Lindenlei 17; Verlaet- Ijzerlaan 11; Laurent Delvaux -Laurent Delvauxstraat 15; Four Corners - Abdisstraat 8. Any suggestions? Will appreciate any help....

Gent Eating out on a Sunday
Posted: Thu November 8, 2007 12:17 PM UTC
Can anyone please advise about eating out in Gent on a Sunday?
Is it better to aim for a main meal at mid-day? It occurs to me not all restaurants may be open on Sunday evening if lunch is the main Sunday meal.
Suggestions appreciated.

Gent Question on planning a trip to Belgium
Posted: Wed August 1, 2007 04:28 AM UTC
Aside from Brussels, I would like to visit Brugge, Antwerpen, Ghent. How much time do I need for each one? I can skip the art museums because I have limited time, but do want to see the architecture and take the river cruises in Brugge and Ghent to get the feel of the places. Judging by the maps, the historic center in Antwerpen is the smallest of the three, and that of Brugge is the biggest.

I plan to spend one half day in Ghent (about 1:30 to sunset), one full day in Brugge and about four hours in Antwerpen (and two more in Mechelen on my way there). Is this a good plan and enough time for those places, or should I for example spend more time in Antwerpen and less in Ghent?

Thank you in advance to everybody.

Gent Going to Ghent soon for about a year
Posted: Fri December 22, 2006 07:16 AM UTC
Hi!

I will be coming to Ghent in the beginning of Jan 2007 for about a year or so.
For the first 4 months, I will be on a Business Visa, which will later change to a Work Permit for the rest 8 odd months.

I will need to go to the Arcelor (Sidmar) office.

The information I would really appreciate is:

1. Should I stay in Ghent or Zelzate? How far will the office be from the place
you suggest I stay in? I was advised to stay in Ghent since Arcelor is about 40 mins away.

2. How can I commute to and from office? If I stay in Ghent and take the bus to the Arcelor office, how much will the to/fro journey cost me?

3. For a single bedroom flat (Although married, I will be travelling alone), how much should I pay (in Ghent/ in Zelzate)? Can I get a flat on sharing basis?

4. Does the rent usually include charges like gas, heating, water etc?

5. Can I get an internet connection easily?

6. How much is enough for a single guy to live on in Ghent? I am not a party
animal nor do I smoke or drink.

7. Is it essential that I have a car?

8. How easy is it moving around in the city using public transport?

9. How much should I budget per month for a reasonably comfortable stay in Ghent?

10.Does it snow there?

I'll be really happy to get some advice on these.

Thanks so much to anyone who replies,
