Gent B&B near Sint-Pieter's Railway station - safe area?
Posted: Mon September 1, 2008 04:41 PM UTC
Hello everyone :)
I might be travelling to Belgium in mid November (one week trip). Decided to visit Bruges, Antwerpen, Brussels and, of course, Gent. Also decided to stay most of the nights in Gent and travel by train to other, above mentioned places (except Brussels, will move there for 2 last nights). Therefore would like to stay in a B&B near the railway station. At the same time, I am bit afraid whether the area is safe? I consider the following guesthouses: Chambre Eau - Lindenlei 17; Verlaet- Ijzerlaan 11; Laurent Delvaux -Laurent Delvauxstraat 15; Four Corners - Abdisstraat 8. Any suggestions? Will appreciate any help....

Gent Eating out on a Sunday
Posted: Thu November 8, 2007 11:17 AM UTC
Can anyone please advise about eating out in Gent on a Sunday?
Is it better to aim for a main meal at mid-day? It occurs to me not all restaurants may be open on Sunday evening if lunch is the main Sunday meal.
Suggestions appreciated.

I was thinking of spending a long weekend in Ghent in October. I have never visited the city before. I like art galleries, exploring on foot, nice cafes, some shopping, the odd meal out. Can anyone recommend a 'Top 10' things to do, see, taste, experience?

Gent Question on planning a trip to Belgium
Posted: Wed August 1, 2007 03:28 AM UTC
Aside from Brussels, I would like to visit Brugge, Antwerpen, Ghent. How much time do I need for each one? I can skip the art museums because I have limited time, but do want to see the architecture and take the river cruises in Brugge and Ghent to get the feel of the places. Judging by the maps, the historic center in Antwerpen is the smallest of the three, and that of Brugge is the biggest.

I plan to spend one half day in Ghent (about 1:30 to sunset), one full day in Brugge and about four hours in Antwerpen (and two more in Mechelen on my way there). Is this a good plan and enough time for those places, or should I for example spend more time in Antwerpen and less in Ghent?

Thank you in advance to everybody.

Gent Going to Ghent soon for about a year
Posted: Fri December 22, 2006 06:16 AM UTC
Hi!

I will be coming to Ghent in the beginning of Jan 2007 for about a year or so.
For the first 4 months, I will be on a Business Visa, which will later change to a Work Permit for the rest 8 odd months.

I will need to go to the Arcelor (Sidmar) office.

The information I would really appreciate is:

1. Should I stay in Ghent or Zelzate? How far will the office be from the place
you suggest I stay in? I was advised to stay in Ghent since Arcelor is about 40 mins away.

2. How can I commute to and from office? If I stay in Ghent and take the bus to the Arcelor office, how much will the to/fro journey cost me?

3. For a single bedroom flat (Although married, I will be travelling alone), how much should I pay (in Ghent/ in Zelzate)? Can I get a flat on sharing basis?

4. Does the rent usually include charges like gas, heating, water etc?

5. Can I get an internet connection easily?

6. How much is enough for a single guy to live on in Ghent? I am not a party
animal nor do I smoke or drink.

7. Is it essential that I have a car?

8. How easy is it moving around in the city using public transport?

9. How much should I budget per month for a reasonably comfortable stay in Ghent?

10.Does it snow there?

I'll be really happy to get some advice on these.

Thanks so much to anyone who replies,

Gent Ghent this weekend - 2/12/06
Posted: Tue November 28, 2006 10:26 PM UTC
Hi,

I am visiting Gent this weekend with my parents and I have a number of questions about the city. I was wondering if anyone can help me with their opinions on:

Best chocolate shop
Best pub/beer house
Belga Queen (good or bad) alternatives (special occasion)
Shopping for decorative items for home
Shopping for art/antiques
Best place for traditional Belgian lunch
Do boat trips run at this time of year?

Thanks so much in advance for any answers you have.

Best regards

Gent Good hotels for children
Posted: Thu June 15, 2006 04:48 PM UTC
I'll be visiting the Gent/Antwerp/Brussels area for business, accompanied by family including children under 12. Are there good hotels, with swimming pool, that would allow my wife access to motorways for sightseeing while I am having meetings?

Hallo all!
Me and my friend (girls) are going to study in Gent (Erasmus-architecture - there are no accomodation halls for students in this school) from September 2006 to June 2007 and we are looking for a free student flat with two small rooms in Gent. Or if you are also going to study abroad, we can fill your place in some flat for the school year. Can you help us?
