Egypt Amsterdam to Cairo/Alexandria!
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 10:09 AM UTC
Hi All!

I am plannning an Egyptian get-away this winter during Christmas time. I will be starting from Amsterdam and would like to get to Alexandria or Cairo. But I cannot find any good budget flights that may be operating on this route. All that I find is way over budget!

Can anyone tell me any cheap flights from Amsterdam to Alexandria or Cairo? And which city should I choose to stay in, Alexandria or Cairo? I would also like to visit the Sphynx and the Pyramids. Is it all possible to be done in 4 days? Any help is highly appreciated as I dont have any idea about how and where to go in Egypt. Also, how will be the weather in that part of the world at that time of year????

Thanks again!

Egypt Info on Timing and Distance re the Suez Canel
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 11:27 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning a boat cruise from Dubai to Venice. We transit the Suez Canal and stop at Port Said.

My problem is trying to determine if the transit of the Suez Canal will be done in daylight or whether it will be a night time cruise. My travel agent is not able to answer the question. The itinerary states"

==========================================================
Depart Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt. at 4.00PM (1600 hrs) on Saturday

At Sea Sunday

Arrive Cairo (Port Said), Egypt 8.00am (0800hrs) Monday.
==========================================================

Based on that schedule can someone with local knowledge give an opinion whether or not we will be in the Suez Canal during daylight?.

I would also like to know.....how far is it from Sharm-El-Sheikh to the "start" of the actual canal, and likewise.....how far is it from the "end" on the Canal to Port Said.

Cairo How to enter Al Azhar Park??
Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 07:08 AM UTC
Is the only entrance on Salah Salem road? Are people allowed to walk to the entrance? The reason I ask is because the Lonely Planet book says you have to take a taxi to go to the park. I want to know if I can walk there from the downtown area, since it's only a few kilometers. Thanks!

Sharm El Sheikh 1st time to Egypt help!!
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 10:23 PM UTC
I'm staying at the sealife hotel in aug with my boyfriend just wondering quite a few things-
Hotel- Has anyone stayed here before what's it like?
TRIPS- What trips to go on who to book with i.e is my rep the safest option? and the cost? would like to swim with dolphins, snorkeling, diving, quad biking, camel rides anything exciting really.
CLOTHES- I have read things about covering up whilst there or is that in certain places. If so what clothes will be acceptable (not like i'm going to be naked just wondering about the bikini situation) :)
TIPS- How much do you tip and who do i tip? Are the men ok with blondes read bad things.
INJECTIONS- Do we need any before we go? The best medication to take with us?
MONEY- How much should we take for 2weeks and do we change all of it?

Think thats about it sorry for all of them quite worried only ever been baleric island before. Anything else you can think of that i should know please tell me thankyou in advance.

Aswan Fishing Lake Nasser
Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 04:42 PM UTC
We are looking to book a Nile cruise ending in Aswan. Once there we were hoping to book a fishing trip. Since you usually get off the cruise in the morning we want to board the fishing boat and do some fishing, overnight and then spend the next full day fishing before we catch the sleeping train back to Cairo. Pricing for this has been ridiculous! Has anyone ever booked a fishing trip while in Aswan? I'm thinking I will get the best deal there but don't know if it has been done before. Thanks

Cairo Visit to Cairo With Local Tour Agent
Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 08:38 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be visiting Cairo on next weekend. I have chosen Ramses Travel Group of Eygpt to arrange for me the Tour & accomodation. The reasons being so far the communication was responsive & clear, Tour Programs looked interesting & detail to me & also the Agent whom I am interacting with has shown much flexibility to accomodate with my requests & help to solve my problem. So far so good, am happy with the good service. The rest has to be proven when I am in Cairo.

Has anybody else used their service before? Has anyone being to Cairo & can help to adivse me what I have to aware of when dealing with the Tour Agent there? I hope what I see now is also waht I am going to get later. Wish I can come back with some nice update to those who are interested later.

Any information about this would be appreciated a lot!!! or if you have some better idea how to get from Hurghada to Petra post it please!

Luxor Dress code
Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 10:32 AM UTC
My guide book (a new Globetrotter) says to wear long trousers and long sleeve shirts so not to offend what are conservative Muslims. Is this correct? Has anyone been in shorts and t-shirts and found a problem?

Sharm El Sheikh Sharks Bay or Naama Bay?
Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 09:41 AM UTC
Am hoping to go to either Sharks bay or Namma bay in August this year (holding on to get a late deal if we can), but would like some advice on what people think of these and which they would reccomend?

I am thinking Sharks Bay as it will be less manic and touristy from what I have read about Naama, but I have also read that there is not much to do in Sharks Bay, although some of the reviews were quite old.

What are the nightlife, resturants, shops, bars, attractions etc like in Sharks Bay? We will be going for two weeks and are hoping to dive and take a couple of days out to see the pyramids but would like to know that there will be enough to keep us occupied day and night for the rest of the holiday if we stay in Sharks Bay.

Has anyone been recenlty and can tell me what you thought of either?

Thanks, Sadie

Egypt Tips for beating the crowds at sites in Egypt in July?
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 08:13 PM UTC
Usually the trick in other countries had been going very early, but from what I've read it sounds like tour buses show up early at sites in Egypt to miss the hottest times of the day.
I am wondering the best (least crowded) times to visit pyramids around Cairo, the Egyptian Museum, and the tombs around Luxor, and if there were any great off-the-beaten-path sites that you could have almost to yourself?

Thank you!

Cairo Need recommendations on hostels
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 06:39 PM UTC
I'll be in Cairo for vacation on July 6-11 before going on business to India, and want to stay in a hostel or budget hotel, preferably in an area with lots of food and people to see and meet. I been to Cairo before but stayed at the Nile Hilton. This time I want to be with other travelers instead of being cooped up in a big hotel. Any recommendations or warnings would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hurghada Hurghada in November...
Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 09:34 PM UTC
Hello everyone : )

Im looking to go to Egypt in mid November but have been to Sharm twice already. I visited in September before and was wondering how Hurghada would compare and what it would be like in November. Would the weather be good? Would there be many people there? Would there be things to do? It will be me and my mate heading over and probably go all inclusive but would no doubt venture out if the nightlife is okay. Also, how does the snorkeling compare??
All answers would be much appreciated
