Egypt extra day in Luxor or Alexandria
Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 05:29 PM UTC
Hi.

I'm spending 5 days in Egypt as part of our honeymoon vacation. We are planning 2 days in Cairo, 1 in Giza/Saqqara, and 1 in Luxor. For the 5th day, we figure we don't have enough time for Sinai and Aswan/Abu Simbel. That leaves a day trip to Alexandria or an extra day in Luxor.

Any advice?

Thanks very much,
Aleksey

Sharm El Sheikh Xmas & New Year 2008/9 in Sharm??
Posted: Thu July 24, 2008 04:49 PM UTC
Hi all,
Considering a winter break of around 3 weeks over Xmas & New Year. What weather can I expect in Sharm?
If it is reasonably good weather can anyone recommend any reasonably priced accomodation. I will be travelling solo and prefer an apartment / room to a hotel.
Cheers,

Cairo Help pls...
Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 09:58 PM UTC
Me and husband (were Australians) would like to spend a Christmas vacation in Egypt (19Dec-27Dec).We opt not to go for travel agency as it's expensive and we would like to have a bit of adventure by travelling and finding place by our own. Got some question here:
1. Is it good to travel at this time of the month?? If not can you suggest a country to travel.
2. Can u give us lists of cheap accomodations? (don't need a fancy ones..)
3. Good food?
4. Best tourist spots?
5. Do u have a contact number of a "dependable " tourist guide? (someone who will not rip you off)
Thank you and cheers!

Egypt Egypt tours from Israel
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 07:45 PM UTC
I will be on my own in Israel in May and I would like to find a 4-6 day escorted tour to Egyptian cultural and archeological sites. Mazada offers a 4 day tour but 2 of the 4 days are travel days. Are there any other tours originating in Israel?

Cairo Safety
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 06:46 PM UTC
Hi
We have hired a car and driver to take us, a party of five from Cairo to Taba leaving mid-afternoon. I have read that you need to travel in conveys around some areas in Egypt. Are we safe traveling in this area and at this time of day it will be after dark when we arrive in Taba or should we look to travel with others.
Many Thanks Dave.

Sharm El Sheikh calimera royal moderna and a few other things........!
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 05:16 PM UTC
any help or advice would be appreciated as it our first time to egypt!!

so here goes....! a party of four of us are staying at the CRM from the 31st of august, just wondered if anyone has stayed there? read quite a lot of reviews already so know its quite nice, but wanted to know how far from Naama bay it actually is!! and if there is anything we should be aware of?? (good or bad...) oh and does anyone know what the sea view rooms are like?

secondly, are the plugs european or US style ones? my chap wanted to know for his hair straighteners, dont ask!!

thirdly, reading some reviews im not totally sure what is best to do regarding currency. do we change it in the UK, do we take sterling and change it at the hotel, take it out of a cash point or try and find a bank (being further out i think this option is probably not going to be possible for us until we venture into naama bay).

and finally...! nightlife... we are all in our mid 20's, we are going to go to pacha one night but wonder if it is worth going anywhere else?

thanks

Cairo Visas
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 04:44 AM UTC
Hi fellow travelers.
We are traveling to Petra for 2 days and was going to use the Israeli border from Taba and return the same way but an Eqyptain working as a Manager at the hotel I was staying at in Oman said that he was 100% sure that I would not be allowed to return to Egpyt if I used this border.
I have a Egpytian multiple entry visa issued in Australia.
Comments Please.

Egypt Egypt tours in October
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 06:02 PM UTC
I am planning to visit Egypt the latter part of October 2008. It is my understanding that this is a "high season" for travel in the country. I usually wait until i arrive in a country to book any type of tour due to the cost being less in country than from outside of the country. Does anyone know if there will be too many travelers to expect to join up with a tour if i wait until i arrive in Cairo. I am planning to do the major sites of Cairo and the Aswan - Luxor area.

Sharm El Sheikh All Inclusive or Half Board/B&B
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 12:59 AM UTC
Friends want us to go with them next Jan/Feb but have no idea where to stay.
I'm told to head for Naama as close to amenities but need more advice on whether to go all in or half board and which hotel.
We are all 50ish like a drink or 10 enjoy entertainment but not clubs for youngsters.
I gather you get better value going AI but feel we may be tied to hotel.
How much are drinks on average and meals eating out.
What would you do?
Any advice would be really appreciated

Egypt Change of plans for my trip, will this work???
Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 12:38 AM UTC
WOW, I can't believe I am changing my plans this late in the game, but the more I investigate the more things I want to change. I am flying to Cairo in 6 days!!! Heres my new plan...

From Cairo we will take the night train to Luxor. We'll spend a couple nights there, then we would like to get to Abu Simbel for 2 nights. The problem Im having is the convoy from Aswan leaves at like 4am Ive been told, and there is no way we will be in Aswan that early from luxor unless we really have no alternative. We don't want to fly from luxor b/c its just too much $$ (trying to save our pennies until we get to sharm where we have heard things will get a bit pricey). So is it possible to arrive in Aswan say at 8 or 9am and still get to Abu Simbel that same day? We have a hotel in Abu for 2 nights, then we fly to sharm from there. Can we hire a taxi to take us there, or must we travel in the convoy no matter what?

Hi

I am considering going to Egypt (or Morocco)during September for a week but i believe its the month of Ramadam. As its a Islamic country i was wondering what its like during that month as we dont want to be restricted on things we can do, i.e sight see, travel, experiencing the nightlife (drinking alcohol) etc.

Egypt Independent traveller planning to go from Egypt to Jordan&back - HOW?
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 03:18 PM UTC
Hi all!

I have never been to Egypt before and I got a chance to get there during September. Iīm considering c.10 days and during it I would like to make a trip to Jordan, just for about 2 or 3 days or something, not more and then return to Egypt from where I am flying back home.

Would you be please so kind and help me to answer/resolve following issues??

1)Do you think the better solution would be to go first to Jordan and leave the rest of days for exploring Egypt or vice-versa?
2)How can I get to Jordan from Cairo- by train or bus? How much is it? Are there any problems regarding crossing the Egyptian/Jordanian border for EU citizens?
3) Any suggestion for some decent hotel in Egypt and Jordan? (no top-end at all, I just need a bit clean place WITHOUT cockroaches!:-)) /I donīt even care sleeping on wood floor providing the place is cockroach free.../

Thank you very much for all tips!

Egypt Lake Nasser Cruise
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 05:38 PM UTC
We are considering doing the Lake Nasser Cruise in August in order to see the temples that are inaccessible by road. Is this insane? we have been twice to Abu Simbel in August so we know how hot it can met. But sitting on a ship all day until one arrives at a specific site seems a little crazy to us. Any opinions?
Thanks

Egypt Hotel Recommendations for all over Egypt
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 03:41 AM UTC
I will be traveling around egypt in a week. I have my hotel picked for cairo, but I still haven't decided on hotels in Aswan and Luxor. There seems to be little feedback on hotels, and I would like to have some referals or places to not stay if you experienced a bad stay somewhere. Anyone got any tips? I don't wanna break the bank on hotels in these 2 cities as sharm will do that for me when I get there, so affordable is better :)

Cairo Introduction into Cairo...
Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 08:29 PM UTC
Hi you guys,
I am thinking about a city visit in Cairo in the end of this year. Except the normal information I do not know too much on Cairo (yet) - except those things you get by TV documentations once in a while. I would love to get in contact with someone(s) who would like to tell me some things about life and what's going on in Cairo. I am very much interested in architecture, art and culture. When travelling I love to mix up with the people rather than heading from one tourist highlight to the next.
Which are nice parts in town that you like the most? Where do you like go for a good meal? Who are your favorite Egyptian poets, writers, artist, architects, musicians? What is "in" in Cairo? What do I have to do and where to go to get a good feeling of Cairo?
I just started a book of Nagib Machfus about the "Midaq lane" cause I think it's nice to get into a place by reading (not just travel guides...). What are your fave books or (maybe contemporary)writers (dealing or playing in Cairo)?
I am very much into architecture - so I am pleased on any hints - modern or historical.
Shukran;-)

Aswan confused traveller
Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 08:14 PM UTC
I am trying to organise an independant visit to Egypt for early Sept but am getting totally frustrated with the logistics of it all. Bascially we are flying into Cairo and hope to spend a full day sight seeing. From there I would like to do a 4 night Nile cruise and then spend the remainder of a 14 days holiday in Sharm.
My problem is no matter what way I research this all I seem to be doing is spending my time going to or from Cairo airport.
Has anyone tried to fit all 3 areas into a two week break and if so how. Personally I'd prefare not to go with an organised travel agent as I like to be able to move around as I wish.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
