I am confused as to which salt mine to visit... I have run across three so far, one in berchtesgaden, other in Hallein and one in Hallstat. I will have a car so transportation is not really an issue.
I will be going to Eagle's nest one day, so berchtesgaden would be the most convenient but I don't mind driving to the other ones if they are better. any suggestions?
I plan to be in salzburg for three days, so one day in salzburg, one day at eagle's nest and at the salt mines.

SalzburgCard? Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 04:36 PM UTC
I have just come across some information regarding the SalzburgCard. It seems like a pretty good deal, since it covers entrance fees to a lot of attractions, as well as public transportation. Has anybody used the card before? Is it as good of a deal as it seems? Thanks

I like to know if one can buy bus tickets (one day pass for city travel) at the bookstore or any outlet in Salzburg airport.I know you can buy a single trip ticket from the bus driver, but does he also sell single day ticket for unlimited rides?
I was wondering if it is better to book the tour online or book it through the hotel's front desk? And I notice only two agents do the tours, panorama and bob's. which of the two are the better or are there any differences?
I intend to travel on an overnight train from Salzburg to Zurich on 16th Aug. I've checked the obb website and just want to confirm if it is stated as departing 00:44h, does it mean it will depart on the 15th/16th or 16th/17th morning?
And is it better to reserve a ticket or buy the ticket at the station itself? Plus what is there to do while waiting for the train? Is there a place to sleep/rest at the station? I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

I am traveling to Salzburg and was thinking on extending my trip to visit Budapest. Is the train the best option to get there? If so, how much does it cost and how long would it take me to get there? I was thinking on traveling at night so I can sleep on the train and then have a full day in Budapest and save the hotel money. Is that an option?

We'll have limited time (arrive Sun. May 17; depart Wed. morning May 20) in Salzburg. We came across the Eagles Nest tour - looks like a good opportunity for some scenic sights and, of course, the historical aspect. Has anyone taken the tour and do you recommend?
How much does it cost to travel by taxi for a 2-3km distance? If there are 4 of us sharing a cab, would each pay not very much more than taking a bus? Is it easy to flag a cab in the old city? Is it customary to tip the driver, and how much? What is the booking fee to arrange a pick up from the hotel? Are the taxi drivers generally honest and go by the metered fare?
