Vienna Accomodation in Vienna
Posted: Wed November 4, 2009 03:58 AM UTC
I am planning to be in Vienna between Nov 13-Nov 23 and am exploring the possibility of temporarily renting a small apartment. Or even a room provided there is enough privacy. Oh yes, I would like a toilet inside the apartment (not on the corridor! :))

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vienna Touring
Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 05:20 PM UTC
Hi all,
I will be in Vienna from May 9th to the 15th, 2010. I am interested in going on The dragon, griffin, unicorn tour which outlines the magical creatures, their history and representation in the architecture. This tour is also good for children. If anyone else is interested in doing this tour, leave me an e-mail or respond in the forum. The tour costs 15 euros per person if 6 people attend. If there are more people the price per person gets reduced. One also gets a 2euro discount if they have a Vienna Card. If you need anymore info visit the website at www.wienguide.at.
Kind regards,

I only have two nights to spend in Vienna, but I really would like to see a Panda bear. Do you think is a good idea to spend one day in Schonbrunn palace and Zoo and the other day in City center of Vienna? Any advice about public transport? Many thanks for your help. Diana

1 - where are the atm machines located as we will need them on arrival, easy to see or hidden away( like tegel )?

2- is the bus to westbahnhoff easily accessed or should we just take a taxi and be done with it?

3 - we will be spending four days in vienna, planning on using the eight day transport card for two people four days each. do i understand how this works correctly?

4 - where are the transit tickets for sale ( airport, train station, or only in subway stations?

Vienna Wine tasting bike tour in Wachau Valley
Posted: Tue September 22, 2009 05:19 PM UTC
Has anyone ever been on the wine tasting bike tour through the Wachau Valley?

My husband and I are considering doing this but I wanted to know if it is worth the money. We only have one and a half days in Vienna. We are really interested in wines and vineyards but it is an all day event.

The website it here:
http://www.partner.viator.com/en/6247/tours/Vienna/Wine-Tasting-Bike-Tour-departing-Vienna/d454-3943GGVIE

Also - does anyone know if they leave from Vienna or do we have to find a way to get to the Wachau Valley? Thanks!

Vienna Public transit from airport to Meidling Marriott and back to city and around
Posted: Mon September 14, 2009 07:36 PM UTC
Could someone help me with public transit options from the Vienna airport to the Marrriott in Meidling? How much is a taxi or is it better to take a train and transfer from the city center to get Meidling. Can I use the Vienna Card to get to Meidling (not sure if it is in zone 100). Is the Vienna Card worth it or should we just walk in the city for the most part?

If we purchase single tickets from Meidling to get to the city center, is it just 1 ticket or is it 1 ticket per train line or bus that you get on? I believe we have to transfer lines at least once, right?

We will be in Vienna from Sunday mid-day to Thursday morning (end of September). Thursday morning we have to get from Meidling to the train station to go to Munich. Thanks!

Vienna train travel between Vienna and Munich - purchase online and how to get window seats
Posted: Tue September 8, 2009 05:12 PM UTC
My husband and I need to purchase train tickets to get us from Vienna to Munich on October 1st (around 8AM if possible - earlier is ok). I have looked on the oebb.at and the bahn.de sites and they are rather confusing (note - this is my first trip outside the US). They have different pricing and on the oebb site it appears that I can actually select the seats that I want (at a slightly higher price) whereas on the bahn.de site, the tickets are cheaper but I can only mark a preference on seats. How do I know if the seats I select will definitely have a view out the window (and of course we want to seat across or beside each other).

Question is - how can I get a good price and at the same time guarantee that we will get window seats (we want the 2 seats that face each other - either 1st or 2nd class). Which site is better (we just need a one-way ticket.

Also - how much luggage can we take on the train and do they charge extra? I saw on the site that luggage is 16 euros each - is this just if you ship your luggage without taking the train yourself?

Since we are traveling during Oktoberfest to Munich - should we go ahead and purchase tickets before we leave or wait until we get there? I want to make sure we get tickets and not have a pay a huge amount of money for them.

Thanks.

Vienna Wine tasting tours and wine bars or Heurigers - how does wine tasting work in Vienna?
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 09:09 PM UTC
We are traveling to Vienna Sept 27-Oct 1 and would like to try Austrian wine. I believe Vienna is a good location, correct?

However, I am having trouble figuring out where to wine taste. Is it mostly outside of the City or can I use public transit to reach many places? I have read about Heurigers - is this the same as an American winery? Do many offer wine tasting (and how much do they generally charge)?

Also - are there any good wine bars or places in or near Vienna to get a drink and/or dinner? I've read about Grinzing but it sounds touristy? I realize I am a tourist but I want to experience some authenticity on this trip. Could you please direct me to a few places to visit both during the day and for dinner in or near Vienna (at least within walking distance or on a public rail line)?

Are any of the "wine tours" worth going on or should I just explore on my own?

Thanks.

Vienna Romantic days in Vienna
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 07:44 PM UTC
Hi all,

Quick question please…..I am looking at taking my partner on a romantic weekend away to Vienna. I know this is one place she would like to go and we are going in October for our 1 year anniversary.

I would like to make it very special so would appreciate it a lot if you could help in anyway.

Do you know of any really nice romantic hotels that we could stay in – Ideally nice rooms / views and close to the main sites so that we don’t have to rely on public transport?

Secondly, what are the main sites of Vienna?

Any additional information you can give would be much greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

Vienna Traveling to Vienna 3 1/2 days - what to do - where to eat - how to get to Munich
Posted: Mon August 31, 2009 06:13 PM UTC
I have a plethora of questions (this is my first trip to Europe - end of September)!

First - my husband and I will be flying into Vienna on a business trip (for him). What is the best way to get from the airport to the center of the city (not sure where we are staying yet) and how long does it take to get there and what is the cost?

We have about 3 1/2 days in Vienna (my husband will be working for 2 of them). He is really interested in castles and I was wondering if there is something nearby that we can visit? Do we need to book tickets in advance for this? We were also interested in a Danube River tour but do any tours drop you off along the way to explore or are you on the river the whole trip?

For the 2 days that he is working - does anyone have suggestions on what I should do/see while in Vienna - I don't want to miss anything. I am interested in visiting wineries/vineyards - are there any nearby? I am used to the wineries in the US where you can go in and taste their wines for a small fee - is it the same in Vienna? Any recommendations on restaurants for local food or wine bars?

And finally - what is the most reliable and inexpensive way to get to Munich? We plan to take a train from Vienna to Munich and then either another train or rental car to Fuessen. I want to be sure to not miss a connection or anything but want to leave around 8AM from Vienna if possible. Is the public transit easy to figure out? Do I need to purchase train tickets before I leave the US or can I just purchase them at the train station (which is cheaper and are there always seats available or do they sell out on morning trains)?

Thanks for all your help.

Vienna Vienna Budapest Hydrofoil
Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 08:27 PM UTC
Budapest-Vienna and Prague for the first time.

Is the Hydrofoil from Vienna to Budapest a hydrofoil (very fast speed) or is it a ferry? I have seen it referred to as both a hydrofoil and as a ferry. If it is a hydrofoil can the sights along the river really be seen or is the speed too fast to enjoy the scenery?

Any very special places to see in Vienna or Budapest? I have a list of all of the tourist places. Will be there end September to mid October 2009.
