Democratic Republic of Congo Business Trip to DRC
Posted: Thu May 13, 2004 07:40 AM UTC
I heard a rumor from my boss that I am likely to be sent to Kinshasa/Lubumbashi for several months for business. I am an American white woman working in Japan for a Japanese company.

I have soooooo many questions to ask about DRC!

Do any members live in the area? What is it like?

What is appropriate business attire, and appropriate casual attire? What kind of shoes do women wear (both in business and casual situations)?

What are the cultural attitudes toward women? Americans? (and American Women?) What are the attitudes toward women in business situations?

How much do people speak English?

Is it safe for me to travel around when I am not working?

Is there internet access? How expensive is it? What should I expect for living expenses?

If you can address any or all of these questions, I would appreciate it!
