My boyfriend and I are thinking of getting a package deal to the Pontao Hotel close to Santa Maria because this is the cheapest option in cape verde that we found.
my boyfriend doesnt like non-hotel or guesthouse accommodation, but would it be cheaper and where would you suggest staying if we aranged the accommodation and flights from the UK ourselves?
I understand Sal is the most developed island. Would you recommend going there or should we try to go to one of the other islands???

We have just booked into the Pontao Hotel for Christmas 2007 and have just found out the the island is very windy. We are horrified because we enjoy a beach holiday. In the evening we enjoy restaurant/cafe/bar culture and a little people watching thrown in. Is this all possible in Santa Maria. We would also be grateful for any info/advise about the area and hotel. I only hope that my whim does not turn out to be a very expensive mistake. Thanks in advance to all.

Staying in the riu hotel Fanara in June in Sal can anyone tell me what it is like, is it on the beach ? also my husband wants to surf there is their anyway he can hire surfboards or does he have to take his own ?

I am going to Sal in February. Does anyone know if the temperature in the evening is affected by the wind? Do you need a jacket in the evening?

I have decided to see Sao Vicente, Sal and Sao Tiago, so I just have a few more questions for you guys...I wanted to do 4 days in Sao Vicente and 4 days in Sal but if that works out to be too expensive which do you recommend staying the most nights at Sal or Sao Vicente?

Out of the hotels for Sal which do you recommend Morabeza, Belizoronte or Odjo d'Aqua?

for Sao Vicente do you recommend the Foya Branca or another hotel?

Out of the hotels for Sao Tiago which do you recommend - Hotel Tropico or Oasis Praiamar? We plan to stay here for 2 nights to take a trip to Tarrafal and Assomada.

I am looking to book a holiday staying in Santa Maria on Sal Islands, and I would like to know if I would be able to get a Visa at the airport on Sal, if so how much, and would I still need to take extra photos etc. with me.

Looking to travel to Cape Verde some point next year. Wondering which island to stay on, I guess it is between Sal & Sao Vincente. Looking for beautiful beach, beautiful hotel with a pool, great restaurants. We have a daughter who would be about 5 at the time so we want things to do, but probably can't do too much.

Because our travel agentcy are trying to sell us accomandation, and it seems as if the prices are quite high, 50-100 euro for a hotelroom, one night. Is it prices like this we should expect, or should we wait till we are down there?

What Island is reccomended as the best to visit for a two week trip?

I am interested in lying on Sandy beaches and having a bit of a nightlife.

Is it easy to move between the islands once you get there?

I have heard that things are expensive...

Can you give an example of lets say:

a drink in a bar?

a litre bottle of water

a meal in a restaurant

a bus ride


Your input with regards to anything about the island and its people would be much appreciated!

I am planning to return to Las Palmas later on this year and would like to visit Cabo Verde as well. I cannot seem to find any info on flights or prices. It's a shame Binter Canarias Airlines don't do that route. Can anyone help?
