Whore for cash, and happy wife. Posted: Sat July 1, 2006 03:29 AM UTC
Travels take me to this (some say) God-forsaken part of Africa. My question is are there any things in reference to transportation and getting around that I should be careful of besides cab ridding and car rentals? How bad is it? Boss is saying it is not bad at all. He says it's one of the nicest parts of the country. Is he right? Experienced? Help!!

Water Treatment? Posted: Wed May 10, 2006 10:38 PM UTC
I'm currently working on a community development for Luanda to host some of the employees of our company. The question I have is I hear about the water quality, but does a water company exist? Someone who bottles water in large quantities? The community I'm planning would be self sufficient but I'm having trouble figuring out what type of water infrastructure is available if any? Do people use well water? Any information would be appreciated.

Kalua Posted: Mon January 9, 2006 09:39 AM UTC
In the year 1974 a Dutch boat called Noord-Nederland was sold to a company in Luanda. The name was changed in Kalua.
Is there anyone who can tell me more about this boat?
Or maybe there is someone who has pictures of it??
Please let me now.

Trip Namibia & Angola Posted: Sun January 16, 2005 07:04 PM UTC
I'm planning to make a combination trip to Namibia and Angola by rental car this summer (2005). Some recources say it's unwise and some say it's fairly okay. Has anyone been in this region lately (southern Angola). How is the situation there, can we travel without to much hassle? And is it possible to cross the border between Nambia and Angola with a rental car?

Living and teaching in Luanda Posted: Sat October 23, 2004 04:32 AM UTC
Hello, I am considering pursuing a teaching post at Luanda International School. Viewing the school's website it looks fantastic. What is life like for expats in Luanda? Can I purchase oatmeal (i.e. rolled oats), chickpeas or garbanzo beans in a can or dry, and carrots? What is the weather like, aside from hot? Is it very humid? Would I be able to easily establish a social life outside of school? Is it safe for single female visible foreigners? Thanks so much!

Need Invitation for Visa Posted: Tue October 19, 2004 07:10 PM UTC
Hello,
the Angolan Embassador in Berlin made it very clear to me, that without a letter of invitation from some Angolan citizen I will absolutely not get a visa. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does anybody know a person or organisation that would write such a letter?
Thanks

Luanda International School Posted: Sun September 5, 2004 08:47 AM UTC
Did you guys get a web page or other information avenue set up? That would be a big help.
Particular questions: - Is there an internet map available showing the location of the oil company compounds and the International School? - Does the Luanda School have a web page? - Do you drive, or do you typically get a driver as is done in many other Third World countries? - What is the medical situation like? I assume you can't even get the basics. Do the oil companies, etc. have their own doctors?

Lawyers in Luanda Posted: Tue May 18, 2004 06:07 PM UTC
Hello Everyone! I am a Canadian citizen-resident, and my late father left me some farmland outside of Luanda, and I need to know what is involved in selling it (documents & papers). Does anyone know of a reputable Real Estate Agent, and/or a real Estate Lawyer in Luanda - prefereably one who speaks English? Or at least the best way for me to find one?
Thank you, Esenje esenje@hotmail.com

Anyone need to know prices of groceries in Luanda? Posted: Thu April 8, 2004 12:53 PM UTC
I thought since people were asking about cost of things in Luanda, Angola, I would post some samples off my grocery receipt from shopping today. These prices are at Intermarket, downtown Luanda and the exchange rate used is 80 kwanza = 1USD.
bunch of cilantro = $0.33 quart of ice cream = $10.43 box of 12 Laughing Cow cheese cubes = $11.38 dozen eggs = $3.03 quart of long-life lo-fat milk = $1.73 6 lemons = $2.38 can of peeled whole tomatos = $1.10 small box of white sugar = $1.05 1 kg potatos = $7.80 6 pack of orange Fanta soft drink = $3.74
So it's a real mix, depending on what is local. The eggs are so local that they still have the chicken crap dried on the shells.

Day-to-day in Luanda Posted: Fri March 12, 2004 02:48 AM UTC
I might have an opportunity to work in Luanda for a few months -- an opportunity that came out of nowhere, but I have to decide soon. I'm pretty sure I'll take it, but I'd love to hear some personal accounts of what it's like to live there day to day. I recently finished a 2.5-year stint as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Niger, and I'm used to a much different kind of life in Africa ... lack of infrastructure, severe temperatures, and extreme poverty don't faze me at all, but violent crime and isolated "ivory tower" living do. Sounds like bush travel is pretty muc h out, but can a person get a feel for the country and its people at all??? Or do expats just go from compound to compound in total shelter?
