Paris Boulogne-Billancourt vs. East Paris
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 12:51 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me the commute time via Metro from the Marcel Sembat Metro stop in Boulogne-Billancourt to the Eiffel Tower? What about the commute time between the Porte de Vincennes Metro stop and the Eiffel Tower?

I am trying to decide if I should stay at a budget hotel - the Jardin chain - in Boulogne-Billancourt or in East Paris and knowing the length of the train rides to and from the Eiffel Tower will help me decide. Another important variable is the kind of neighborhood the hotels are located in so any tips/comments on that issue are very welcome, too!

Thank you in advance!

Paris "Happy Hour" in Paris
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 10:15 PM UTC
Are Happy Hours prevelant in Paris? Available only in bars or also in cafes, brasseries? Drinks only, or some bar food as in the US? Can you recommend a good HH near the Madeleine/Opera/St Honore/Blvd Haussmann area? Any tips/suggestions? With the $:Euro rate, any info on savings without sacrificing a fun experience is appreciated.

If you know of a web site which lists (in English) Happy Hours in Paris, I would be grateful. Many thanks.

Paris Bike tours? (5 days and counting!!)
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 10:00 AM UTC
Hi again. Have been so busy the past couple of weeks, I haven't been able to do the research I wanted to re: my visit (next week!!! I'm getting so excited!!:-)
However, one thing I did find that fascinated me was bike tours (in preference to open top bus tour, which I found had quite a few bad reviews).
Any advice on whether the bike tours are a good way to see your city please?

Paris Disneyland Paris - inside or outside?
Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 09:26 AM UTC
Hi all,

Hope you can help.

We are going to visit this place for 1 day and 1 night before we leave for London, just for our young daughter.

We are either going to stay at the Hotel Santa Fe (in the park), or the Kyriad (5 mins down the road).

Can you please let me know if it's better to stay in the park or out? The reason we are staying one night is we believe there are some night events and dinners we can attend which would make it easier to get back to the hotel.

Also the deal with Disney is that if we book one night at the Santa Fe, we need to buy tickets directly from the hotel (and they have quoted Eur59 for adults and Eur 51 for children). Are these prices right? I'm sure I saw them for Eur 10 cheaper each.

Thanks so much for any assistance!

Paris child booster seats or high chairs in restaurants?
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 08:42 PM UTC
I never paid attention in Paris restaurants (medium-priced restaurants)as to whether or not they usually provide a high-chair or a booster seat for young children.
My son, wife and 17 months old little boy will be in Paris next month.

Do restaurants (budget and medium priced) have booster seats for children?

Paris Can I buy the Paris Visite Travel Pass and Disney Tickets anywhere in the UK
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 04:35 PM UTC
Help can anybody suggest where I can buy the Paris Visite Travel Pass and Disneyland tickets in the UK prior to my visit on 19.5.08.
There are 12 of us arriving late on Monday 19.5.08, too late for the VEA shuttle, apparently the TGV and taxis are too costly, so there is no option but to get to the Hotel Explorer other than by RER, which worries me as there are 4 children involved. I want to minimise any hassle by purchasing everything beforehand. Any help would be most appreciated.

Paris train in Paris
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 12:16 PM UTC
My children are flying to Paris and plan on meeting us in Orange. They arrive in Paris early in the morning and would like to spend the day in Paris before taking the train to Orange in the evening. Is that doable? Is the train station convenient enough for them to check their bags there while touring? Finally, what are the prices and schedules like and how would they purchase their tickets online before leaving for their trip? Thanks to all for your help.

Hi everyone,

I am just wondering whether I can use the carnet of 10 Metro tickets for RER?
and the carnet is only for zone 1 and 2, right? If I am taking train to Versailles, what should I do to get the zone 3 and 4 ticket when I still have the carnet?

Thanks so much for your advice!

Paris First time in Paris
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 03:37 PM UTC
Hi,

I and my wife will be visiting Paris in June, and would love to stay on/near the Champs Elysees street. However, most hotels I've checked in this area are very expensive. Our budget is about $150. Can I find a nice hotel for this much?

Alternatively, is it a better option to stay near the Eiffel Tower? The hotels there are cheaper too.

And lastly, is Paris a safe place? I know there is some crime in every city, but in general - how's the situation here? Is it okay to travel by train or taxi late at night, let's say after a night of clubbing?

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Paris Visit to the Paris Observatoire
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 09:46 AM UTC
In the year 2004 me and my son walked along the "meridien de Paris" and we have made photo's of all the plaquettes ARAGO we could trace in the streets and in the Louvre. Only the plaquettes in the garden and building of the Observatoire we could not see, because you had to make a reservation for a guided visit.

Last year I've got troubles whit walking and in the summer I got the diagnosis; I have A.L.S. (in French S.L.A. or the "maladie de Charcot"). Next week I will try to make (probably for the last time) another walking trip in Paris and make - if possible - photos of the plaquettes in the Observatoire. I have tried to make a reservation by email to make a guided visit, but I got no answer. We, my son and I will visit Paris from wednesday 21 untill monday 26 May. I hope some of the VT-members living in Paris can tell me when I can visit (day and hour) the Observatoire.

With friendly regards,

Boy Consen

Paris Notre Dame "Night Show" on Saturday
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 07:09 AM UTC
Looking at the Notre Dame web site, I came across some info in English about their "Night Shows" on Saturday (May and June '08) at 9:15. As the detailed page was in French, I was unable to decipher the contents. We are really interested in going to a concert at Notre Dame, can someone give us a heads up on what this is? Fee or free? Advance tickets or just show up? Type of music?Any other pertinent info? Where can I find a listing of such concerts for late June/early July (Notre Dame, Madeleine, etc.)? Merci par avance.

A potentially silly question, but I have not had to phone anyone in Paris when I have been there.
If this is the following number: +33.(0)6.62.62.93.20, do I just dial 62.62.93.20?
Thanks
