Does anyone know where the Princess tenders dock in Falmouth? Is it relatively easy to get from this location to Pendennis Castle?

I currently live in gloucestershire but soon retiring and thinking of moving closer to son in Penryn. I'd be really grateful for feed back re 'good, lively friendly places to settle in Falmouth area. Am worried whole area may be dominated by the sailing fraternity/students/trippers!! Mylor bridge / Devoran /Port nevas take my fancy but also 'fancy' prices if one's not into sailing! may also consider central falmouth area Any other suggestions gratefully received

I'm going to St Ives next month (February) and am looking for the best two romantic restaurants, that specialise in seafood, people can suggest. There seems to be a wide choice but given I'm only down there for two days would like to hear people's thoughts.

Will leave my kids to do their thing after our time together in London and
the morn of April 6 will head to Bath [always wanted to return] then "ramble"
my way to Plymouth to stay with a friend Friday 13 to 15th
Now from Bath leaving the 8th am thinking a coastal "ramble" via St Ives and Penzance --would leaving Bath April 8 and arriving Plymouth afternoon of April
13 be an unrushed itinerary as of yet not researched
What i,m hoping for is ideas/good taverns/nice costal scenery experienced by
VT,ers----also transport train or bus and which would get me into little
costal towns---look fwd to any help

OK, this may seem like a repeat of a similar question, but bear with me. We are two couples age 69/70 (but we're lively.) We want a self-catering accomodation, preferably with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths (at our age we need a little more privacy). We'd really like to not have to drive on the "wrong" side of the road (to us), and thus avoid a possible accident. But we don't want to stay in too large a town and want to have access to coastal paths and beautiful scenery. We'll probably go around the second week of September.

So many of the Cornish towns look so wonderful, but I know once we get there we'll find that only a few fit the bill mentioned above. So.........what would VTers recommend? Can we find what we want in the Doc Martin town (Port something) or Mousehole? Is Penzance too big? Any advice? I've read the Cornwall section and got some very good info, just want more. Thanks.

Hi

We are staying in Porthleven (yes, again) in the near future and during the stay, we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary (wedding seems like yesterday). Any ideas on a nice restaurant to have a nice meal (for 4 people! - the in-laws are with us and it will be their 48th anniversay on the same day). Oh, and we don't particularly like fish - yes, I know it is strange to go to stay in a harbrour town and its associations with sea food but we don't go for the food, well, not much anyway. Have car, willing to travel out but obviously not too far!

Thanks for any replies.

Andy

I was wondering if anyone knows how long it would take to drive from Port Isaac to St. Ives. It will be early July and I won't be going on a weekend.
Thanks!

My wife and I have 2 weeks in a rental car going round the south west starting and finishing in Southampton in July before joining the Celebrity Eclipse cruise into the Baltic.
We would like any tips on routes to take and recomended B&Bs / Farm Stays along the way. We want to avoid motorways as much as posible.
We realize July is peak season so if you know of places that wont be too crowded would be great!
Thanks

Hello,

I'm going to Daymer Bay, Cornwall, in a couple of weeks and would love to attend a pottery class one day whilst there. I want to make something and be able to finish it and bring it home. There's very little info I can find online about 1 off classes... would anyone be able to recommend either a class or who I can contact that may be able to help?

I have a car so driving distance wont be a problem.

Many Thanks!

This summer, I am driving from London, with an overnight in Bath, and then onto Port Isaac. I will be taking the M4/M5 Route.
After a week in Port Isaac, I will be heading back to Heathrow airport for an overnight before flying out. I may drive by Stone Henge just to see it. I was wondering about taking a different driving route back to London and was wondering about taking the A303. I'd like to take my time heading back. Is there any place I should stop along the way? I know this route is longer than the M4/M5 but I've read that it's more scenic.
Any help would be much appreciated!!

I will be staying in Port Isaac for one week this summer. I will spend most of my days on the north coast but thought about doing one day trip more southwest. I have seen some pictures of beautiful beaches and I was wondering, if I am just going for the day, what would be the best area to visit for scenery (would like to visit somewhere with a nice scenic beach). Also, how long would it take to drive from Port Isaac to the suggested location?
Thanks for any ideas!

Hi, I'd like to visit Cornwall in the spring. The only way I know of getting there would be to fly into London and take a train to Penzance. Is there an airport closer to the area that I could fly into, without it costing an arm and a leg?

Thank you for any help you could offer!

Dear Cornwall memebers,

Please help me in getting an accommodation in Cornwall area for the August bank holiday for 3 nights. We prefer the self -catering apartment as I am taking my parents this time. I see many websites, but all of them are for long breaks and everyone has hiked the price sky high. :( Everything is booked well in advance, and I think we are too late.

My wife and I are off to Cornwall in September - nothing is booked as we intend to tour-around and use B&Bs.
The only definite things on the agenda are the Eden Project and St Michaels' Mount - otherwise we will go where the fancy takes us!

I usually buy an OS Map (Ordnance Survey) of the area we stay in but because we are travelling about and have no firm destinations in-mind, it would involve buying 4 or 5 OS maps and cost rather a lot of money. Annoyingly, some of these maps are over 50% sea!

I know there are OS regional maps of National Parks etc but I cannot see one for Cornwall.

I do have a motorsists' map which will be fine for travelling, but I rather like to look at a bit more topographical detail or footpaths etc so that if we do end-up on a nice coastal path, for example, we can set-off reasonably easily.

Have any of you got any suggestions?

How long will it take to drive from St Austell to Penzance on a Sunday in early May. I have a very tight schedule to stick to but wanted to see St Michaels Mount. My dentist is from Devon and she said when she lived that way it could take a couple of hours.

I hope someone can help - I've been looking for a very simple self catering accommodation - we don't need any luxury only 2 bedrooms (2 friends) and simple facilities. Is there such an accommodation to be found? The location doesn't matter so much as we will have a car. But I don't seem to be able to find the sort of simple thing (and therefore cheaper...) I was hoping for. Any ideas? Thank you all beforehand!

On the last two weeks of June myself and my parents will be staying at the Harrington guest house in Newquay. I would like to hear from anyone else who has stayed there and what it is like? My parents are senior citizens and I read that anyone can run a six bedroomed guesthouse, and not be registered with the council or have any fire safety certificate which is a bit worrying.

Please put my mind at rest before i send off the deposite? Many thanks.

I've been going to Cornwall, and West Cornwall in particular, for the last 8 years. I was last there in early May and heard the new Penwith radio station. I think it's a community radio station that broadcasts online. They have some really friendly and useful content for visitors to and residents of West Cornwall as well as local info etc - plus an amazing music show called Analogue Island that seems to discover new music from around the world - stuff I've never heard on the mainstream radios.

The info online is quite scant as their website seems to be simply a front page allowing access to the station.

Does anyone know anything more about this station? Or what there plans are - is it a one short term project or is it here for good?

Aft some researching, i realised that a day trip's not enough to see the beauty of Cornwell, so i've decided to stay for 2-3 days in Cornwell. Could anyone recommand the best sights where i can see the best of corn well. I would most likely be visiting Tintagel and probably a play at Minack the open air theatre... the views i've seen on the net so far are superb! Are there any more places which i should not miss while i'm there? I was thinking of a walking tour or it would be sufficient to jus wander about myself and jus lose myself in the beauty of it all? And would it be easy to get ard in Cornwell using public transport? Cos i would not be renting a car... Thank in advance!!

Hi,

Can't wait to visit this lovely part of the world over the Easter weekend! Trying to finalise the itinerary - have tried to group it geographically, but it's looking like there's too much to fit in.

Can you please give your opinion about what is manageable (travelling with young kids, but they are quite portable)? We're staying in the Redruth area and are focusing on the Far West areas. Interested in:

* Checking out the Towns of Penzance, St Ives, Mousehole, Land's End (quick stop at Men-an-tol) - enjoy the streets and buildings, EAT!, check out the shops

* Ancient sites: Merry Maidens, Carn Euny, maybe Chysauster?

* Minack Theatre in daytime

* St Michael's Mount - try to catch Easter Sunday Service

* Tintagel Castle, but looks like it is 1hr+ away.

* sit and stare and enjoy all of the natural beauty as well - beaches, cliffs, beautiful countryside...

SO! What can we really fit in without turning the weekend into our own amazing race? Thanks in advance!

Hi

My husband and I are planning on spending 6 nights in Cornwall in late April.

We will be driving down from London, and looking to base ourselves in two or three different places during our stay. We are interested in exploring villages, admiring scenery, eating well, and staying in some nicer-than-average accommodation.

Any suggestions on which villages/towns would make good bases for exploring the surrounding areas?

(Any special accommodation or dining recommendations appreciated too)

Thanks very much in advance for any advice you experts can offer!

Newquay Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 12:45 PM UTC
Hi there,

We always loved going to Newquay for New Year, been going for the last 10 years, but starting to feel it's changing (or we're just getting older perhaps!) and the original pub crawl/families out in fancy dress culture has gone a little more clubby. We were wondering if anyone has experience of Halloween and whether the town comes out in force like it does at New Year. Can you do a pub crawl without tickets? Is it a worth a little weekend visit? Would love your views!

Thanks, Karen
