Hello everyone
Im looking to book a break for me and my girlfriend to the Lake District and was wondering if you could help please
I might be asking too much here lol but Ive always loved the idea of staying in a log cabin in a woodland setting surrounded by wildlife, trees (obviously) etc with a gorgeous view of the lake or a log cabin on the shore surround by woodland.
Can anyone tell me if theres places of that sort to stay in the Lake District ? Ideally I dont really want to be in a area thats full of tourists, nice and quiet would be great with nice wildlife walks etc as Ive taken up photography too.
Thanks so much in advance
Kind regards
Joe
I am getting married in August and was thinking about a venue for my stag weekend. I am keen to avoid your typical stag weekend of nothing but drinking and shamefull behaviour. I would like to go some where with good walks, good sceinery, good pubs and some good male bonding. I feel the lake district would be perfect but where to stay? There will be around 15 men going and i would like to know where would be best to go.
Any help or answears to my question would be much appreciated.
Hello,
I plan to take my 2 teenage children to the Lake District for 3 days in early July. How long would the drive be from London? And train journey? From which London station to where? I am unable to walk long distances - how is public transport there or are there online links to local car rental prices?
Also, any info re: prices for vegetarian b+b or half board? We will be one or two adults and two teens.
Thanks very much in advance,
Leonie
Hi, we will travel to Windermere (Lake District) in Mid August (coming from Dubai) with a 3 year old son and will be staying at Craig Manor Hotel. What's the best way to go to Windermere from Kendal (arriving there from Cheltenham) ? Also, planning to take Full Day 9 Lakes Phtographers tour from Millennium Travel Lake District Tours. Any one knows how good the tour is ? Also, how easy it is to commute in the buses ? Are taxis easily available in Winderemere and Lake District in general ? Sorry, a lot of questions but none of our friends ever traveled to Lake district.
Could you suggest any nice picnic spot for having lunch in Windermere or around windermere ( 5 miles or so) We are reaching winderemere at around 11.30- 12.00 but our checkin time in the B&B is after 1. So we are planning to have our packed lunch in some open area, preferably scenic place.
Thanks for all the help given to me in arranging this.
Thanks for your reply I finally managed to Get booking into Brendanchase B&B in windermere. We are going there as two families 4 adults and 3 kids between 4-7. Can someone suggest things to do and places to visit near windermere. Ideally we would like to have some scenic outings with a few activities for the kids. I know I am asking for too much :-)
We have three full days and stayng in windermere centre.
I am planning to take a short break in Lake District over Easter. There are total 4 adults and and 3 kids. Is there any nice Self Catering which could be available only for 3 nights. I have checked a few but not much availability.
I checked a few Youth hostels since they provide good budget. But unfortunately availability is very limited. Any advise/tips.
I am planning to spend some days in the lake District using Keswick as a base for hill walking. The dates that suit me best are May 1st to May 5th. But I now see that this is a UK Bank Holiday weekend. Does that mean the area will be very very busy with tourists? Difficult to park a car? Traffic jams? Walks very busy? OR, is it still quite early in the season?
Views , comments, advice much appreciated.
Thank you
Pop.
I'm wanting to go to the Lake District on a long romantic weekend, also to do a lot of activities such as mountain biking, walks and boating.
I've looked at a feel lodges and cottages and they seem to be in a variety of areas. I was wondering where is the best village or town to stay. It would be nice to stay by the Lakes if possible.
Any information would be greatly appreciated and i thank you in advance for taking time to reply.

hi, i will be visiting windermere next week and i'd like to know what are the main attractions there. what are the places worth visiting and if its possible doing all this without a car??? is it very big???
how's the temperature there?? i live in malta and its really hot at the moment here, but i guess i need to take up winter clothes with me??? what kid of clothing would be appropriate?????
I'm looking for a small beautiful cottage with as much character as possible in the Lake District to take my girlfriend to for a long weekend.
We would ideally like it to be slightly isolated (e.g. detached in a clearing of its own) but within walking distance of amenities or a small village.
Near a lake for rowing and with a log burning fire would be a big bonus (if I haven't already asked too much!).
I found one at the following link that seems fantastic but is unavailable until October, we were hoping to go in the middle of September

In mid October 08, after a stay in the Highlands my wife and I are considering train to Carlisle and hiring a car. We are visiting the south of the Eden Valley - Appleby, Long Marton, Dufton - where my family originally farmed (from at least 17th Cent) before settling in Oz in 1850s. We also want to see the Lakes District and spend a few days visiting Roman sites along the Wall. We expect to have 4 full days and 2 part days before train to Bath.
We are considering using a central base (hotel or B & B) and driving out to accomplish our travel interests. Being a bit of a horse lover, my wife wants to go riding on the Fells.
We think these ideas are achievable given the distances involved - or lack of them. It all seems so small and compact compared to travelling in Oz.
We would be grateful for any comments, criticisms or tips about the above; recommendations about accomodation; must-see places in the Lakes area; must see places along the Wall - Vindolanda and Cawfields seem to me to be definites.
I've started doing my homework, comparing prices for point-to-point tickets with the various BritRail passes. If I don't get a pass for my complete stay in the UK, I will have to buy a ticket in Kendal. But from the National Rail site it seems that this is an unmanned station, without a ticket machine.
Can I buy a ticket from the conductor in the train then? Or does the tourist information sell rail tickets?
I read about the Lake Day Ranger Ticket, which can be bought in the train. Is this also true for regular point-to-point tickets?
I've read about guided tours going to Hill Top Farm, but looking at a map it doesn't seem to be too far from Kendal.
I'm thinking of taking a train in the early afternoon, from Kendal to Windermere, walking to the ferry, crossing the lake, then walking up to Hill Top Farm.Do you think this is walkable? I'd have to go back the same way in the evening.
Thank you for any advice.
We are looking for a cottage for a week in this area or surrounds, preferably not far (within easy walking distance) to a little village. Does anyone have any recommendations? The self-catering cottages I have found online are at farms, which we usually love - peace and quiet, but this time we are looking for one a little closer to a village.

Hi, we would like to visit the Lake District for a 4 night stay in June 2008 but unfortunately we are the proud owners of 2 uni students, 1 apprentice and 1 child still at school so we are on a tight budget.
This would be a holiday for just us two adults. We would like to visit somewhere near cocklemouth in either a hotel or bed and breakfast.

Taking my mum to Windermere for the day by train , she'll be in a wheelchair.
Any tips for good views and pubs/cafes for lunch - she likes more old fashioned than posh - open fires in the pubs etc.
Thanks, Michael
