How much does it cost to get to the lighthouse and is it by water taxi or what choices are there. Also can anyone name a few budget priced eating places or car hire?

Nouméa Precise estimation of the trasnfere tiem by taxi MAGENTA->TONTOUTA
Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 12:42 AM UTC
I am trying to plan my connection from Magenta domestic airport to Tontouta international airport coming back from Ouvea and leaving to Vanuatu:

17:40 scheduled arrival by Air Caledonie from Ouvea to Magenta
19:20 scheduled departure by Air Calin to Port Vila from Tontouta.

I've been once to Noumea and remember that there was a highway linking Noumea and Tontouta and that means that taxi drives ca. 90kph there and makes 40km from Magenta to Tontouta in appr. half an hour. Is it true, and for early evening Monday traffic?

I guess AirCaldenoie on domestic flights can be not quite punctual.. At the same time I think airCalin with departure to Vanuatu should not very much strict if we appeaqr say not 45 min before the departure but only 30 min?

Nouméa An evening in Noumea
Posted: Mon November 19, 2007 02:40 AM UTC
We are visiting Noumea on a P&O Cruise from 3pm - 11pm and am interested to know what we should do while we are there. I'm not interested in any of the organised tours from the ship as sitting in a coach for period doesn't do it for me. Any advice from previous cruisers would be appreciated.

New Caledonia Help on itineary planning
Posted: Sat October 14, 2006 04:24 PM UTC
Hi there, would really appreciate some suggestions from anyone who has been to New Caledonia with regards to my planning for a trip in August next year. I am planning to visit the Loyalty Island (Mare, Lifou and Ouvea), Isle of Pines and a drive around the island - how long do you think I should allow for this trip? Also are the three loyalty island quite similar or are they worth a island hop to each of them?

Lifou need info from a local in lifou
Posted: Sun September 10, 2006 10:02 AM UTC
I have been contemplating traveling to lifou to seek out family members. Heard and read that the island is quite beautiful, what I am trying to establish is family connections, was not able to before because I do not speak the languages (kanak and french). I have heard the little mission church built by our forefather (he was a missionary from samoa) in lifou still stands, his name was Iosia from Samoa. His second wife, our ancestor, Namaniane (we have no last name for her) came from Lifou, we would sure appreciate any info from those who live on lifou or around new caledonia who might have heard of this couple's story. Namaniane's descendants are alive and thriving in samoa, we have many questions and want to travel to new caledonia to find our relatives but hesitant because we do not speak french or the indigenous language. mahalo to those who can assist.

Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are thinking about visiting New Caledonia for 7-10 days just to escape the bustle of Sydney for a bit. Can someone advise me on any cheap(ish) accomodation as we have no idea about the sort of prices we are looking at.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

New Caledonia Noumea weather in December?
Posted: Mon April 11, 2005 11:44 PM UTC
My fiance are planning our honeymoon, which will be starting in the middle of december 2005 and running for about 2 weeks. I've read that december is the rainy season in New Caledonia, but just how rainy is it? I've also read that there are hurricanes. Can anyone fill me in? You can email directly at nick@gorevic.net. Thanks!

Île des Pins Best time of the year to go
Posted: Fri April 1, 2005 03:40 PM UTC
Hi

Can anyone post an opinion about this island?
My husband has a fixation on it since he came across some pictures on a travel magazine.
We would take the kids along (5 and 13).
Worth to go or better to choose another island on the Pacific?
Thanks

Nouméa Food in Nouméa
Posted: Thu February 24, 2005 01:02 PM UTC
How much does it cost to eat in Nouméa? I mean restaurants, cafes and groceries. I have read in the travel tips that imported foodstuffs are very expensive. But can you buy local produce at reasonable prices? If so, what is available? Is there anywhere that's cheap to eat out?

New Caledonia Being in New Caledonia
Posted: Wed November 10, 2004 01:03 AM UTC
Hello There. Need some advice from the experts. I am trying to locate a tour operator or ground operator in New Caledonia who can help us set up a nice trip in New Caledonia. Can anybody recommend a local one they know or used? If not, anybody can recommend a New Caledonia specialist outside the country. Don't really get any hits on the net. Also, are the catamaran trips and private yacht trips around some of the islands worth the money..they seem pricey. I am going there next year with my wife and three young kids (6yrs old, 2 1/2 yrs old and an infant). We are doing a more upscale trip and are not looking to break the bank, but know it is not cheap to be there. Which places are a must visit? Is 2 weeks in New Caledonia a fair/good/too long time to spend there? Any help is appreciated.

New Caledonia School trip... hopefully
Posted: Sun January 18, 2004 10:32 AM UTC
In July this year my French class is hopefully going to visit NC and I was wondering, what are the common prices for some things over there? Just ordinary things like a can of coke, a meal at a cafe, clothes in there shops, and what some good shops are to visit, things that we could do in Noumea, preferably on the cheap side. What would be a reasonable amount of money to have for spending over there, other than activities, transport and accomodation, just spending money, the rest is included in what we have to pay but how much should I bring for souvineers and stuff like that?

Hi,
Was just wondering about the surf in NC - is it easily accessible, like walking out into the beach or if not, how is the best way to access it?
What will the temps be in July?
Any good or bad experiences with NC from anyone.
Thinking of going in July and just wondered if anyone could help us.
Thanks in advance,
Me

I received a picture but I don't know where it is or what kind of
memorial (maybe a tomb) this is.
The picture should have a connection with New Caledonia.

Anyone here who can tell me?

You'll find the picture here:

New Caledonia Sacred place?
Posted: Sat September 7, 2002 05:43 PM UTC
When we visited Ile des Pins(Island of Pines) in New Caledonia,we went to Kanumera Beach. It is really beautiful. We were told not to get into the big rock just in front of the beach. I think it is a sacred place,or religious place for New Caledonian people....is it right?
