New Caledonia Sea Snakes
Posted: Sun August 17, 2008 01:59 PM UTC
We are planning on doing a trip to New Caledonia in March 2009. I was really looking forward to that...until today, because today I found out about the very venomous sea snakes that can be found all over the island and in the sea surrounding it.
Even though I'm generally not afraid of snakes (we already visited several “snake countries” during the past five years) this really worries me. Especially the fact that they are around in abundant numbers which makes them hard to avoid. That’s why I do have some questions. I hope somebody is able to answer them for me.

How much chance do we have to encounter them and get bitten?
How careful are we supposed to walk around in order to avoid stepping on a snake?
How many people die from sea snake bites on, let’s say, a yearly basis?
Why isn’t there any anti venom available on a well developed island like New Caledonia?

New Caledonia SYDNEY cheap ticket
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 02:08 PM UTC
Hello. I am planning to go to New Caledonia in July from Sydney. I have been looking for cheap flights by aircalin and quantas (800 - 1050 AUD)

But I am not sure if it would be cheaper and better to book at a travel agency or at the airport in Sydney, for I do not know if it is clever to book only about one week in advance. (free places, etc.)

Do you have any experience?

Nouméa Precise estimation of the trasnfere tiem by taxi MAGENTA->TONTOUTA
Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 01:42 AM UTC
I am trying to plan my connection from Magenta domestic airport to Tontouta international airport coming back from Ouvea and leaving to Vanuatu:

17:40 scheduled arrival by Air Caledonie from Ouvea to Magenta
19:20 scheduled departure by Air Calin to Port Vila from Tontouta.

I've been once to Noumea and remember that there was a highway linking Noumea and Tontouta and that means that taxi drives ca. 90kph there and makes 40km from Magenta to Tontouta in appr. half an hour. Is it true, and for early evening Monday traffic?

I guess AirCaldenoie on domestic flights can be not quite punctual.. At the same time I think airCalin with departure to Vanuatu should not very much strict if we appeaqr say not 45 min before the departure but only 30 min?

Nouméa An evening in Noumea
Posted: Mon November 19, 2007 03:40 AM UTC
We are visiting Noumea on a P&O Cruise from 3pm - 11pm and am interested to know what we should do while we are there. I'm not interested in any of the organised tours from the ship as sitting in a coach for period doesn't do it for me. Any advice from previous cruisers would be appreciated.

New Caledonia Help on itineary planning
Posted: Sat October 14, 2006 05:24 PM UTC
Hi there, would really appreciate some suggestions from anyone who has been to New Caledonia with regards to my planning for a trip in August next year. I am planning to visit the Loyalty Island (Mare, Lifou and Ouvea), Isle of Pines and a drive around the island - how long do you think I should allow for this trip? Also are the three loyalty island quite similar or are they worth a island hop to each of them?

Lifou need info from a local in lifou
Posted: Sun September 10, 2006 11:02 AM UTC
I have been contemplating traveling to lifou to seek out family members. Heard and read that the island is quite beautiful, what I am trying to establish is family connections, was not able to before because I do not speak the languages (kanak and french). I have heard the little mission church built by our forefather (he was a missionary from samoa) in lifou still stands, his name was Iosia from Samoa. His second wife, our ancestor, Namaniane (we have no last name for her) came from Lifou, we would sure appreciate any info from those who live on lifou or around new caledonia who might have heard of this couple's story. Namaniane's descendants are alive and thriving in samoa, we have many questions and want to travel to new caledonia to find our relatives but hesitant because we do not speak french or the indigenous language. mahalo to those who can assist.

My girlfriend and I are thinking about visiting New Caledonia for 7-10 days just to escape the bustle of Sydney for a bit. Can someone advise me on any cheap(ish) accomodation as we have no idea about the sort of prices we are looking at.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My fiance are planning our honeymoon, which will be starting in the middle of december 2005 and running for about 2 weeks. I've read that december is the rainy season in New Caledonia, but just how rainy is it? I've also read that there are hurricanes. Can anyone fill me in? You can email directly at nick@gorevic.net. Thanks!

Île des Pins Best time of the year to go
Posted: Fri April 1, 2005 04:40 PM UTC
Hi

Can anyone post an opinion about this island?
My husband has a fixation on it since he came across some pictures on a travel magazine.
We would take the kids along (5 and 13).
Worth to go or better to choose another island on the Pacific?
Thanks

Nouméa Food in Nouméa
Posted: Thu February 24, 2005 02:02 PM UTC
How much does it cost to eat in Nouméa? I mean restaurants, cafes and groceries. I have read in the travel tips that imported foodstuffs are very expensive. But can you buy local produce at reasonable prices? If so, what is available? Is there anywhere that's cheap to eat out?
