hi

just would like your expert advise

we will be in salzburg for 2 1/2 days and thinking of doing a daytrip in berchtesgarden on april 4. is it possible to go on boat to konigssee then take the gondola to jenner and do the saltmine (last tour is around 5pm i think) in one day?

what's the easiest way of going there (public transport) we're staying near the salzburg train station. what's the last trip bus/train from berchtesgarden to salzburg?

Salzburg traveling in salzburg
Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 12:56 AM UTC
hello there! i'll be going to salzburg on the 21st of april until the 24th. I am quite skeptical about taking the sound of music tour and im thinking of hiring a car for a day to go to all the places such as the sound of music tour.
will it be more convenient to hire a car or to take public transport around salzburg? and also what are the places that would be a sin to miss in salburg? :)
is there any recommendation for a hostel in salzburg?
and i'm planning to spend a full day to go to vienna, any recommendations there?
thx!

Salzburg Salzburg to Vienna
Posted: Fri February 29, 2008 11:50 AM UTC
Hello VT members,

I am now starting to plan our trip to Austria in May. We will be flying into Salzburg on 10 May at 9.30pm. So far the plan is to spend 3 nights in Salzburg, 1 night in Hallstatt, 3 nights in Vienna and 3 nights in Prague. I would appreciate any advice and help on the following:

1) cheap accomodation in Salzburg, and Vienna.
2) things to do in Salzburg and Vienna.
3) train fares and times to Hallstatt, Vienna and Prague.

Thank you for your advice.

Salzburg Help in planning salzburg trip
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 04:01 AM UTC
Hi, My friend and I will be visiting salzburg in 3 wks and will need some advice planning my trip. I have 5 full days in total, and I'm thinking of spending the first 1 1/2 days in munich, den a train down to salzburg (I'm flying into munich, flying out of salzburg)

In the 3 and a half days in Salzburg, I would like to cover the following

1) sound of music attractions (tour?)
2) Salt Mine (tour?)
3) Mozart tour (is this worth it at 23 euros? or better to go by myself)
4) Visit the snow peaks and do something. (I dont mind spending a day on this. I have never skied or been to the snow peaks before. Would like suggestions on what to do.)

I read that Hallstatt is nearby, and on their website, there are links to snow related activites. It is also near the salt mine right? If so, is it better to go on the tours, or to cover it myself?

Also, It seems that snow buses from salzburg to the different snow peaks (different one each day?), as well as salt mines in salzburg. I am confuse about the difference between hallstatt and salzburg since they offer similar activities.

Can someone please advice me on how many as well as which tour I should go for? (saltmine.sound of music. mozart)Should I pay to go on the saltmine tour or to go for it myself? (do the tours cover the same area in the outskirts?)Should I go for all 3 tours and then plan a separate trip up to the snow mountains or what? I cannot drive and will thus need to rely on public transport. Anyway help will be greatly appreciated.

Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 07:34 PM UTC
Hi!

We have booked a trip to Munich/Salzburg in the beginning of June this year and I found it very difficult to find avaliable rooms in Salzburg on that period. So I was wondering if it will be something special then och is it just a regular summer-fever to start booking everything now and at that particular time?:-)
Thanks for your answers!

Salzburg Bus / Coach Travel to Munich
Posted: Mon December 24, 2007 06:48 AM UTC
I will be in Berchtesgaden in Germany and travel back via Munich on 9th January.
Train Drivers in Deutsch Bahn have give notice of a strike from 7th.
So my pre purchased rail ticker may be of little use.
Can anyone give information of Bus/Coach transport from Salzburg (Airport or City Centre) to Munich (Again Airport or City Centre).
Info with web addresses wound be especially helpful.
I feel a contingency plan rather than panic on the 8th might make a better end to our holiday

I'm going to hire a car from Salzburg airport and drive to Grundlsee. Where I can buy the vignette (to the nearest point from the airport)? Again, if my car is fitted with winter tyre, should I need to fit again with snow chain? If snow chain is required, who can help me to show how to fit it and where to hired it?

Salzburg Small, hanging angel mirror (Engel spiegel)
Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 04:39 PM UTC
I was in Austria in 1977 and purchased a round, silvertone mirror approx. 15 ml in diameter that was bordered in a fancy chain design and hung from a chain with a movable angel. This mirror was stolen from my home and I really want to replace it. I thought these mirrors were made in Salzburg? Any information as to where I can purchase a mirror like this would be greatly appreciated!

Salzburg getting to Salzburg from Germany
Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 12:56 PM UTC
We have been trying to find the best way to get from Rothenburg om der Tauber to Salzburg on Wednesday 10 October 2007. We are open to trains, planes, boats, hydrofoils, buses and rented cars. It seems it will take many connections regardless of what combination of transport modes we choose, so I am wondering what you might suggest.

Thanks in advance!

Salzburg walks or waymarked footpaths and cycling routes
Posted: Sun August 19, 2007 07:43 PM UTC
We are visiting Salzburg the last few days in August into early Sept. we enjoy walking, generally about up to 10kms. WE would like to be able to walk from the city if possible, if not some routes that we can reach by public transport. I love photography so walks with great views would be nice. Also perhaps some that start with a cable-car ride and a walk back down.
Our hotel hires cycles ans we wondered what it is like to cycle around and about, in England I find cycling a worry as car driver are often inconsiderate to cyclists, driving too close etc. What do people think about cycling in Austria?
Thanks Denise

Salzburg Distance and time to Vienna by car
Posted: Fri August 10, 2007 01:49 PM UTC
I will be staying in the Salzburg area for 10 days at the end of this month and am considering a day trip to Vienna by car. Is it practical to think I can drive from Salzburg to Vienna and return in 1 day? I really don't want to stay over night in Vienna. My wife and I have visited Austria 4 times in the last 10 years and believe it or not we have never gotten to Vienna.

Salzburg Hotel Recs in Salzburg

Hi everyone -

I'm looking for hotel recommendations in Salzburg. I'm looking for a place that it's nice to hang out in - not just a place to sleep. One of my party doesn't get around too well and so part of trip will be spent hanging out in the hotel. Anyone have a place to stay that might hit the spot?
