Which salt mine to visit? Posted: Tue September 22, 2009 08:43 PM UTC
I am confused as to which salt mine to visit... I have run across three so far, one in berchtesgaden, other in Hallein and one in Hallstat. I will have a car so transportation is not really an issue.
I will be going to Eagle's nest one day, so berchtesgaden would be the most convenient but I don't mind driving to the other ones if they are better. any suggestions?
I plan to be in salzburg for three days, so one day in salzburg, one day at eagle's nest and at the salt mines.
Also, heard that they are some good concerts in the city, any recommendations?
Can I drive myself to sound of music locations myself? Is there a map or guide available?
thanks,

SalzburgCard? Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 04:36 PM UTC
I have just come across some information regarding the SalzburgCard. It seems like a pretty good deal, since it covers entrance fees to a lot of attractions, as well as public transportation. Has anybody used the card before? Is it as good of a deal as it seems? Thanks

Sound of Music tour Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 08:36 PM UTC
I was wondering if it is better to book the tour online or book it through the hotel's front desk? And I notice only two agents do the tours, panorama and bob's. which of the two are the better or are there any differences?

Salzburg-Zurich on overnight train Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 08:33 PM UTC
I intend to travel on an overnight train from Salzburg to Zurich on 16th Aug. I've checked the obb website and just want to confirm if it is stated as departing 00:44h, does it mean it will depart on the 15th/16th or 16th/17th morning?
And is it better to reserve a ticket or buy the ticket at the station itself? Plus what is there to do while waiting for the train? Is there a place to sleep/rest at the station? I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

How to get to Budapest from Salzburg? Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 01:21 AM UTC
Hello,
I am traveling to Salzburg and was thinking on extending my trip to visit Budapest. Is the train the best option to get there? If so, how much does it cost and how long would it take me to get there? I was thinking on traveling at night so I can sleep on the train and then have a full day in Budapest and save the hotel money. Is that an option?
Thanks for your advise!

Day Tour Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 07:00 PM UTC
We'll have limited time (arrive Sun. May 17; depart Wed. morning May 20) in Salzburg. We came across the Eagles Nest tour - looks like a good opportunity for some scenic sights and, of course, the historical aspect. Has anyone taken the tour and do you recommend?

Taxi fare Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 03:47 PM UTC
How much does it cost to travel by taxi for a 2-3km distance? If there are 4 of us sharing a cab, would each pay not very much more than taking a bus? Is it easy to flag a cab in the old city? Is it customary to tip the driver, and how much? What is the booking fee to arrange a pick up from the hotel? Are the taxi drivers generally honest and go by the metered fare?

Train Info (schedule) from Salzburg to Hallstatt & Hotel in Hallstatt? Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 12:59 PM UTC
Hi,
I am visiting Salzburg soon in end of April. I would like to do a day trip in Hallstatt (or, probably stay over there for 1 night).
I would be grateful if anyone could share with me train information (schedule on weekend, fare, how to etc) from Salzburg to Hallstatt.
Is there any direct train from Hallstatt to airport in Salzburg?
And also, would it be a good idea to stay over there in Hallstatt for a night or so? or it is better to just do a day trip from Salzburg and
not to stay there in Hallstatt?
If so, does anyone have any idea of hotel to stay in Hallstatt?
:)
Any opinion are welcome and appreciated!
Thanks,
Leny

August weather Posted: Thu April 2, 2009 11:56 PM UTC
Perhaps I missed an answer in the forum, but I may be in Salzburg during the festival this August. I have searched weather history, and I gather it can be rather hot, but can someone who lives there or frequents the festival give me a rough idea what to expect? In short, is Salzburg an unpleasant place to be in August?

3 young children in Salzburg Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 04:57 PM UTC
Hi,
I have 3 young children ages 5, 5, and 7. I live in Germany and am taking them to an all inclusive kinderhotel April 4-12 near Salzburg. Then from April 12-17, I'm taking them to a farm 25 km away from Salzburg. It is there that I want to take them to some sites. My understanding is there is a train 2 km away from the farm where I can park and ride.
In these 5 days, what type of itinerary would you suggest for children this young? If they are miserable then so am I. Hubby will be in US so I will be alone which makes me really nervous and I don't like driving.
Any other places I should consider other than Salzburg and is the card worth purchasing?
Thanks for your replies....Bonnie
