Out of beaten tracks in Espiritu Santo Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 01:43 AM UTC
I am planning a trip to Santo this month ( end of november ). I went already several times to Luganville, Hog Harbour and Port Olry. Would like to go this time to Matantas ( Big Bay ). What about the conditions of the roads? Manageable with a 4WD ? Possibility of accomodation in Matantas ? I heard the "Vatthe Lodge" is closed. True or not ?
Thanks

Safety - update please Posted: Sat November 1, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
Hello everyone
I am planning a one week-trip to Vanuatu after a longer one in New Caledonia by the end of February 09. My friends and I would fly to Port Vila and would like to see Efaté and, if possible, another island (which one do you recommend if one has only little time?)
Now to my question:
Someone told me that recently there are big problems with crime. In the Vanuatu Daily News I even read an article (from Jan 08) that linked Port Vila to Port Moresby, saying that crime must be stopped before it is getting as bad as in Moresby (a place I'd never dare to go).
So please, can someone tell me what the current situation is regarding to crime?
Thanks for your replies.

And if anyone knows what can be targeted for a land based fisher.

Vanuatu Posted: Tue September 2, 2008 04:02 AM UTC
My wife and i will be holidaying in Vanuatu with our 1 year old in November. Looking for any tips and things to do with our bub while we are there.
How easy and frequently are there transport options to get between the islands? We might possible like to do a trip to see an active volcano.
What is the general recommendations for/against taking anti malerial drugs if you stay in Port Vila?
We love to eat well so restuarant recommendations would be fantastic.
Cheers

volcano watching Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 03:01 PM UTC
Hi all!
In early 2009 I'm planning to go to Vanuatu to watch the world's most active volcano, Yasur.
Looking for travel mates to do it!
Although there are commercial trips that do the same, the plan is to rent a car, know the island and spend some time near the crater watching the lava flows.
This is the world's most active volcano which is in a continuous eruption for some years.
Although it is alive it is quite safe and there are tourism agencies that offer tours every day to the crater.
If interested mail me:

Filipe

Vanuatu and Anti-Malarial Medication Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 05:22 AM UTC
We are visiting Vanuatu (staying at Iririki and then White Grass on Tanna Island) for our honeymoon in October this year. We now realise that we will have to take anti-malarial medication. Although not specifically a travel question, does anyone know about how long you need to wait after finishing the medication before you should try for a baby?

Vanuatu: which island chose to visit - Espiritu Santo Is. or Tanna Is. in May? Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:03 AM UTC
I have to make a difficult choice, which island to vist Espiritu Santo or Tanna this year May? No other island does fit my flight schedule.
Both seems to be quite appelaing. I've been once just on Efatu for few days.
Espiritu Santo seems to have better accomodation options and nicer beaches, but Tanna offers volcano exoitics.
Anyone who 've been at both places, can help to make a choice, please?

Cruise Ports @ Mystery Island & Wala - Malaria? Posted: Fri February 29, 2008 12:29 PM UTC
I am going on a P&O Cruise in May that docks for the day in Wala and then at Mystery Island.
I was told by my doctor that antimalarial tablets are required however on a website I believe to be linked with P&O regarding these ports it states that they do not dock at areas where malaria is found so repellent and protective clothing will be sufficient.
What have others experienced and who's advice would you follow?
Thanks

A day in Port Vila Posted: Mon November 19, 2007 03:30 AM UTC
We are visiting Vila on a P&O Cruise and am interested to know what we should do while we are there. I'm not interested in any of the organised tours from the ship as sitting in a coach for the day doesn't do it for me. Any advice from previous cruisers would be appreciated.

First Time Tripper to Vanuatu Posted: Wed August 15, 2007 12:32 PM UTC
This year's holiday takes me to Australia for Christmas to visit my sister. As a surprise for her birthday I have booked a flight to Vanuatu from 5-14 January but have no idea where to stay. Obviously quiet romantic places for honeymooners is off the list. She likes shops and lazing by the pool while I prefer the beach and exploring. We both like eating out and visiting the bars after dark. I am flying from London and my sister lives in Brisbane.
Your best suggestions please? I used the VT forum for my trip to Mexico last year and it proved invaluable.
