Vienna Train from Vienna to Prague
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 04:30 PM UTC
Ok ... So I've been reading here in all the forums and it looks like a good place to ask my question.

I'm planning on travelling to Vienna in Septemeber. I want to take a train from Vienna to Prague. The thing is,I'm not sure from where to take the train (what station in Vienna?)to go to Prague from Vienna. If possible how much it costs and how easy is it to get the tickets from the station once there or purchasing them here in the states before going there. So if anyone out there has any of this info .. I'd really appreciate your reply. Thank you in advance!!! :)

Vienna 5 days in vienna
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 06:05 AM UTC
Thank you Globetrot!

I have a few more questions:

1. We will be staying at Renwegg (3rd district). Are there any restaurants, cafes, supermarkets within walking distance? Is upper Belvedere within walking distance?

2. If we buy the weekly pass for transportation does our 6-year-old have to pay in trams/buses/subway?

3. Nachmarkt is open every day or only on Saturdays?

Vienna Vienna for 2 days
Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 10:34 AM UTC
I will be in Vienna between 9th and 11th of May with my mom. I want to ask something.
1-I am a “Klimt” lover. May I see “Kiss” in Belvedere or I have to go to Oesterrich… museum? I confused.
2-How I can go to Airo Tower hotel from airport?
3-I want to see many things in 1-2 days.I think we must see Schonbrunn palace, Hofburg, Stephansdom, Belvedere. What else we MUST see in 1-2 days.
4-Is “Hunderwasser haus” far from center?
Thanks for any help.

Vienna Travelling with a child in Vienna
Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 01:39 PM UTC
Hi!

I would like some info on the following please:

1)I've read that you can easily see a concert/opera or play in many theaters in Vienna for less than 10 euros and you can buy tickets (not from those dressed up guys) but from a ticket kiosk right next to the Opera House. Is this true?

2)Also how do I find out about children's performances since we are travelling with our 6-year-old? I tried info.wien.at but no luck for performances during our dates (29/4-3/5)

3)What kind of weather should we expect at the end of april-beginning of May?

4)Is the Butterfly House worth visiting?

5)Are there separate tickets for upper Belvedere?

Thanks a lot

Vienna Overnight Train from Vienna to Prague
Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 08:08 PM UTC
I've been looking keenly at other transportation posts, but haven't been able to find any information on the overnight train from Vienna to Prague (train 202 from Wien Sued. to Praha).

Does anyone have any indication on prices and couchette/sleeper supplements?

I know it would be cheaper likely to go back to Bratislava (I will be in Bratislava before going to Vienna) and take a train from there, but I'm going to be short on time and would much prefer an overnight, and as far as I can tell, an overnight train would be the only option (no bus).

Thanks!

Vienna Yet another transport question - buying tickets from Vienna to Budapest
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 05:36 PM UTC
I've checked all the recent entries on this subject, but still have a question: I need to travel to Budapest on May,5 and back on May,11 and am wondering what transport should I go for - train or coach? I guess the price is almost the same (under 50 euros, I hope?), but I need a reliable and fast service (I'll need to catch a plane from Vienna on May 11 afternoon so I can't arrive late from Budapest)
Also, should I book the tickets in advance or I could just buy them when I arrive in Vienna? I'm a bit worried that they may be sold out as it'll be tourist season already. Would there be any difference in price depending on where and when I buy the tickets, i.e. cheaper tickets are online, while the ones from the train station are pricier?
Any tips, links and other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Vienna Plane, Hydrofoil, Train or Coach from Budapest to Vienna
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 06:49 AM UTC
What would be the best way to get to Vienna to see as much as possible.
Fly and then see more in Austria? Who is the best and cheapest airline?
Take a leasurely cruise along the Danube to Vienna, but hydrofoil seems the only way, takes 5.5 hours and 85 approx. euros.
Train seems to take a lot less time at 3.5 hours, do you see a lot of the wonderful country? Seems like value for money.
Coach I still have not looked at, as I found this wonderful site in the mean time.

Is it possible to buy online a train ticket Krakow-Vienna?
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 01:58 AM UTC
I tried many times on the polish rail company, but the website went wrong.
(informacja ce biletu normalnego, or something like that, when I asked the price (fare) of the ticket).
Anyone knows if it is possible to buy it online, or at least reserve it?
And anybody has an idea of how much it costs?
And Vienna-Budapest, anyone knows the answers for the same questions?
Thanks a lot.

Vienna Vienna - Prague - Krakow - Budapest - Innsbruck - Vienna by train
Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 04:59 PM UTC
Hi,

My wife and I are planning a 3 week trip in Central Europe in the beginning of June. I am landing and flying out of Vienna so dont have any flexibility in changing that.

I wanted to buy for the Eastern European pass for $220/person for the flexibility of not getting in queue for tickets at the train stations. This decision was taken basis the understanding that point to point tickets would cost approximately the same price but from other posts i have seen in this forum it seems like there might be a cheaper way of making this itinerary happen.

Could someone tell me if the Railpass or individual tickets are a cheaper way of travelling in this area.

Thanks

Vienna Day trip from Vienna to see Austria's hills/mountains - what are the options?
Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 10:30 AM UTC
Hi there.
My girlfriend and I are going to be in Vienna end of April for several days. And we are trying to figure out if there is any chance for a day trip from Vienna to catch a glimps of picturesque mountains. But looking on the map it seems that Vienna is quite far away from any such spots.

The only option I found was a trip by Semmering railway that takes you through some beautiful scenery.

Would any of you know of any place in a sensible distance that can be reach by train/bus that has scenery worth going for? Overnight accommodation is, unfortunatelly out of question, so we have to be back in Vienna the same day.

Vienna Vienna Accomandations

This September my parents and I will be going to Vienna for the first time. I would like to find a nice place to stay. It would be great to find a place in the mid price range and near the city center. We are open to B&B's, apartments or a nice hotel.

Any suggestion would be great.

Vienna Outlet/ Sale Store and Shopping centre near Vienna centre.
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 08:06 AM UTC
Hello.

Does anyone know where the Mango outlet/sale store is? I was told it was in Vienna somewhere. Also are there anymore of these kinds of stores selling Vero Moda, H&M and Zara etc...

Where is the large shopping centre that is near to Vienna centre? I was told it was about 20 mins by train but I have forgotten which station stop.

I am hoping to go tomorrow, so I'd really appreciate any help.

Hi,

Does it make any difference buying a train ticket from Vienna to Munich in Vienna itself as compared to buying a separate ticket at the border to Germany? Btw, what is the station name at the border? Thanks for any advice.

Vienna Vienna for 3 days
Posted: Wed March 19, 2008 03:44 PM UTC
Hello!

I will be in Vienna for 3 days by the end of April and my hotel is in the 15th district and does not have parking space available. So, what is the cheapest (if not free) way to park your car in Vienna? I don't mind if I have to park a little far if there is something good or cheap near an U-Bahn station. In general, is it safe to park your car in Vienna?

Furthermore where can I find some good traditional but not very expensive or tourist trap restaurants and cafe? What about classical music concerts?

Overall what are the 2-3 "must-do" in Vienna for a visitor?

Thanx :)

Vienna taking trains from vienna to prague, budapest, bratislava, and salzburg
Posted: Sun March 16, 2008 10:23 PM UTC
Greetings! I'll be staying in vienna for 10 days while attending the Euro 2008 Championships. I'm looking to take day trips (depart and return same day) leaving early to prague, budapest, and bratislava. I am also planning on going to salzburg. I have been told Halstatt is beautiful to visit. I would like to purchase first class train tickets however, do i purchase through eurail or the OBB? I am staying near the sudbahnof station. Can i purchase train tickets at the sudbahnof or purchase tickets in advance to my arrival in vienna? I could use some suggestions on what to do or see in those cities while staying there 4-5 hours. Thanks.

Vienna Train from Krakow to Vienna: Still passport check?
Posted: Sun March 16, 2008 01:58 PM UTC
Hello folks,

Has anyone recently traveled by train from Krakow to Vienna? I want to confirm whether they still do the passport check at the border.
I am trying to decide whether to take the night train or day train. I dont want to be woken up twice in the night (for passport check at poland-czech and czech-austria borders). I need good sleep, because I have to continue my journey to Ljubljana by the next train :) Since all the three are in schengen zone now, I dont expect passport check. But if that is still the case, I would rather take the morning 7AM train.

Thanks,
Guru

Vienna Train from Budapest

My question is similar. I will be travelling in May to Vienna from Budapest by train. Although I saw the price of the ticket at about £33. Does anyone know if I should purchase the tickets on line before I leave the UK. or will the tickets be readily available on the day at the station.
