Wienerwald or Sopron, you decide for me please. Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 05:05 AM UTC
I have just found out that my plans in Vienna this September have been, in some parts, double booked. It's a long story so I won't bore you with the details, suffice to say that I have to choose between a day trip to Sopron on my own steam, or a half day tour to the Vienna Woods/ Baden/ Mayerling etc. Since I will not have a car the best way to do the Vienna Woods seems to be by tour bus which is not my usual choice, but in this case seems to be my only choice. The trouble is that the two clash and I can't juggle them around the rest of my plans because the rest of my plans are set in stone and I wouldn't want to change them anyway. Okay folks, which would you choose and why? I really need your help on this one. Thanks in advance.

Bus or Train from Vienna to Budapest Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 06:18 AM UTC
Hi, I will travel from Vienna to Budapest in July. I am choosing between Eurolines or train. I know that there are buses running between them, but I can't read the language, I don't know how much it is and the timetable.
For train, the only seats available in the morning on 24 July are not special. It charges Euro 68 for 2 people. There is nothing cheaper.
Does anyone know the fare for taking the bus?
Since the train charges Euro68 for 2 people, is it better to take the bus? If yes, can I buy the Eurolines tickets on-line? If not, will the bus be full when I arrived at Vienna on 21 July to buy the 24 July bus tickets?
IS the bus more convenient for my lugagges?
Thanks for your reply.

SPANISH RIDING SCHOOL Posted: Wed June 10, 2009 09:21 AM UTC
I'm visiting Vienna next weekend and have booked tickets for a 12 p.m. performance at the Spanish Riding School. I have two questions:.
1. The Imperial Palace seems to be an elegand place, is there a dresscode one should follow?
2. Are you allowed to take pictures during the performances?

Duty free shops in Vienna selling Louis Vutton handbags Posted: Sat May 30, 2009 10:11 AM UTC
Hi! am asking this question on behalf of a friend of mine who is in Austria right now. He is trying to buy an LV bag for his beloved daughter. He is not a citizen of the EU so he can claim VAT. where would be a good place for him to get the gift for his daughter. preferably a shop which has the latest designs and models. he is an over indulgent father and his daughter sure is lucky. please help this old father . are there any duty free shops in Vienna? Can the VAT be claimed from the shop itself?

Swimming for muslim women in Vienna Posted: Wed May 27, 2009 11:49 PM UTC
I heard that there is a swimming pool in Vienna that has special times for women. The conditions during these times were so that it was acceptable for muslim women (no men of the staff are on duty during this time, windows are closed from outside view).
I would like to know the address and the times, if possible.

Eurolines: Wienn to Budapest Posted: Wed May 20, 2009 08:05 AM UTC
Hello!
We want to go from Wienn to Budapest and come back in the same day. As the train web OEBB seems rather confusing, we are thinking of travelling with Eurolines becuse the price is similar (30 Euros round trip).
If somebody has travelled before with Eurolines, could give me opinions about it?
Thanks

HELP IN SELECTING A HOTEL AND TRANSPORTATION IN VIENNA Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 04:08 AM UTC
I and my wife will be in Vienna for two days. We will arrive at Vienna airport at about 11 am on a Saturday and leave at about 11 am on Monday after a stay of about 48 hours. We would like to stay in a three / four star hotel (say about 100 odd euros per night). However, we feel that in case the hotel is near a railway station (say upto a Km or so) which is connected to the airport, we will be able to go by train from the airport and easily lug our suitcases ourselves. Thereafter we should be able to move around easily in public transport.
We will be grateful for the following advise:-
(a) Hotels that meet our requirement.
(b) What transportation pass should we buy so that we can not only travel beween airport / hotel and back but also thereafter be able to move around easily within the city in the available modes of transportation.

Hi again!
We have to go from the airport to Alser underground station by S-Bahn. Somebody told there is the possibility to buy a combined ticket for airport and underground which costs 3,40 Euros. Can anybody explain me how to buy this kind of ticket on the machines at the airport?

where to sit - Spanish Riding School Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 06:49 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone tell me where the best place to sit is for the Spanish Riding School performance? The most expensive seats appear to be on the end. Are the ones on the sides just as good? There are no photos of the seating - just a vague seating chart on the website. Thanks!! Claire

Best area to walk along the Donau (Danube)? Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 05:24 AM UTC
I'm taking my first trip to Vienna in a few days, and I'm just now realizing that walking along the Danube River might not be as simple as just finding the water and walking (as there is the Canal, the old Danube and the...regular Danube?)
I won't have much time there, but I really want to experience the river and people. Where should I go? (And which stop should I get off on?)
Thank you!

Day trips Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 05:49 PM UTC
I'll be in Vienna for 5 days soon with my 80 year old mother. I would like to spend a day elsewhere and I thought about Budapest by train. Is this possible for a day trip and if not what other trips could you recommend (our last day will be in Bratislava so rule that one out).
Thanks.

Dress Code at The State Opera House Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 09:43 PM UTC
Any feedback on a dress code for men at the opera house. I tend to travel pretty light when I am on the road, and the best that I would scrounge up for dress clothes when backpacking would be a good pair of jeans and a good golf shirt or possible dress shirt. Anyone aware of a dress code for the opera??

One Day in Viena’s Streets Posted: Mon April 13, 2009 09:22 AM UTC
One day visitor to Vienna, (June 13 Saturday) and I;m looking a nice short tour to the city. I came from Athens at 9:00 in the morning, and back to the airport 10:00 at night, for my flight to Russia. A full day you see, to join the beautiful Vienna!!!
What can I expect to see? Can you guys suggest me your personal daily tour to the capital? I have in mind a nice traditional walk over the famous composers houses, sightseeing, the History of the Art museum, a nice average budget lunch. Is this combination possible?
All ideas are more than welcome, also I will appreciate a coffee time and little talk with some people. .
Really Thanks to everybody!
