Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Guided tour of Valleé Blanche
Posted: Thu October 29, 2009 01:29 PM UTC
Hi

I was just wondering if anyone has any experiences with guided tours of Valleé Blanche. We are 5 relatively proficient skiers and are not sure if we need a guide at all, but any tips would be welcome. Also, tips on companies in Chamonix who provide such tours would be great. We are in Chamonix at the end of January 2010 and hope that weather conditions at this time of year are ok for such a tour.

Thanks.

Grenoble train trips from Grenoble
Posted: Sun September 20, 2009 06:56 PM UTC
I am planning a 2 week visit to Grenoble in May. I want to take a 4-5 day train trip from Grenoble to see the Alps, perhaps traveling around Switzerland and down into Italy and then returning to Grenoble. Does that seem like a realistic and/or practical plan. Any tips on planning such a trip would be much appreciated.

Lyon Lyon in November
Posted: Fri September 18, 2009 11:42 PM UTC
Hi,
We will be coming to Lyon either the first or second week in November for about 6 days. Unfortunately that's the only time we can make it.

I know that it is going to be cold, but is Lyon still enjoyable at that time of the year or does it get a lot of fog during that time? Maybe you have some recommendations on in-door activities.

Thanks,
Maria

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Transport Geneva Airport to Chamonix
Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 09:39 PM UTC
Hello

Can anyone give some tips on transportation options from Geneva Airport to Chamonix (and back)? We are 6 people and the trip will be in winter season with all the skiing equipment that goes with it. Ideally, we would like a taxi mini van or something similar, but if there are organized busses, that might also work. Are there any web sites that would allow us to book something like that in advance? And what should we expect a buss fare or a mini van price to be?

Thanks

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Accommodation for party of 6
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 10:37 PM UTC
Hi

Does anyone have any tips for where we could find accommodation for 6 guys in form of a three bedroom apartment or a cabin of some kind for late Jan 2010?

Location should be so the ski lifts are fairly accessible and the price should be under €2000 for the week.

Thanks

Lyon Bus Service from Lyon Airport
Posted: Wed August 5, 2009 05:02 PM UTC
My departure flight from Lyon (LYS) will leave at 6:50 am. The earliest Satobus arrives the airport at 5:35. Not sure if this will give me enough time to check in. Do I have another option in term of transportation?

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc October
Posted: Tue August 4, 2009 01:08 PM UTC
Hi there
Were looking at going here in October this year. I have noticed a few posts elsewhere saying that little is open this time of year.
Can I please have some info on what happens at this time of year there? Im assuming we will still be able to eat and shop? Were planning on spending our time there hiking and if possible have some; climbing lessons, paragliding, rafting etc - you know the reasons why people go there!
Are these kind of facilites still open?
many thanks!

Lyon Tickets to see Olympique Lyonnais
Posted: Wed July 22, 2009 07:55 PM UTC
Hello!

My husband and I always try to watch a local soccer game when we travel, and I see there is a game on Semptember 12 against FC Lorient while we are in Lyon. I can see the website in English, but not the section about getting tickets.

I am trying to find out what the prices are and what is the best way to buy tickets. Should we get them ahead of time online? Or, should we wait until we get to the city (which is what we usually do)? We will arrive on September 10, and the game is only two days later. If we wait until we get to the city, what is the best place to get match tickets?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc must change of plans
Posted: Thu July 16, 2009 03:31 AM UTC
Hi,
I am regrettingly going to have to cancel my mont blanc classic walk in late august because of an ankle injury. I am still very eager to go, but is a silly idea with a bad ankle, especially when I dont know the terrain.
My other alternative in my eyes is to spend about 3 days in chamonix and do some short walks of the area. Any suggestions here?
From then i am thinking of hiring a car for 5-6 days and am looking for some suggestions as this is a late change and running out of research time, as we leave in a few weeks. Would be interested in nice country drives in france, castles, switzerland and out of the way places.
Our next destination after chamonix is milan, so would you suggest driving back to chamonix and train to milan via martigney, or driving to milan and dropping car off there? If the latter, can you suggest a good driving route to take?
Should i hire car before i go, or just pick something up in chamonix?
Thank you for your help, have been looking forward to mont blanc walk for so long and am devastated that i probably wont make it!!

Rhône-Alpes Scenic Drives, please
Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 08:24 PM UTC
We will be staying in Geneva for 5 days in August. Can anyone suggest some scenic drives into France -- duration of a few hours up to an entire day. One evening, we will need to end up in Annecy for dinner. Also, we are cycling enthusiasts so any climbs/descents associated with the Tour de France would be fun to see. Thanks so much!

Grenoble Train travel from Grenoble to Geneva.
Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 05:43 PM UTC
I am planning to visit my in-laws who live in Grenoble. I also wish to travel from Grenoble to Berlin to visit an old high school chum. I will be traveling over the Christmas/New Years holiday. I am looking to travel to Berlin on Dec. 31. Here is my question:

Will the train schedule from Grenoble to Geneva be the same on the holiday Dec 31, 2009 as a regular Thursday? Are there different "holiday" train schedules?

I am reluctant to book flights, until I am sure I can get to Geneva in time.

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc mont blanc classic walk
Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 11:16 PM UTC
We will be walking mont blanc classic walk in the last week of august, and am enquiring as to how much clothing we need to take. I understand the daytime temperature can be warm and fine to cold and windy, but how about the refuges and lodges at night, will we be requiring bulks of clothing, or just some thermals and a jumper or two?
Also, I have posted the question before of travelling from there to milan, and like the suggestion of high mountain railway via martigny. Is it possible and practical to also go via cable car from chamonix to italy and bus from there, with a load of luggage, as I would like experience this cable car anyway. If so, aproximately how long would this take and the costs.
thank you very much. This is a fantastic forum.

Lyon Train Tix: Lyon - Geneva
Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 07:55 PM UTC
Hello!

I am trying to find out about the cost of a train ticket from Lyon to Geneva on September 15. I know this is too far out to make a reservation, but I just want an idea of the cost. Even when I use earlier dates (for comparison), I can't seem to get any pricing info. Can somebody please help me with an idea of the cost?

My husband and are planning a trip from Dallas - Milan - Geneva - Lyon. But, our plane tickets back to Dallas are $100 (USD) cheaper if we fly back from Geneva instead of Lyon. So, I am just trying to figure out if it make sense from both a money and time standpoint. Any help would be appreciated!

Happy Travels!

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc peikens
Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 06:34 PM UTC
I will be traveling from Florence to Chamonix in mid June and then on to Geneva. Is the trip from Florence scenic enough to be worthwhile taking a day train, or is it better to just travel overnight.
Also do you have any suggestions on good short hikes (appropriate for an 11 year old) that will be open in June.
Thanks.
