Papua New Guinea Working in Lae
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 07:54 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm travelling to Lae soon to work for approx. 1 week and I was seeking advice on what not to do.
Is it safe to walk around during the day on your own? Will I be safe in my motel room a night? I've heard the yacht club is safe for a meal. I'm led to belive that the majority of population is friendly. If anyone can give some advice that would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Port Moresby Isn't this place supposed to be dangerous?
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:00 PM UTC
I've heard it referred to as "the worst place in the world to live" and also one of the most dangerous. Reading the tips and reviews on here makes it sound fine, if not a little bit rough... nothing compared to some of the other "dangerous" places I've looked at on this site. E.g., in Mogadisgu under "tips" it tells you to hire an armed escort. Here under "tips" it warns you about a loud bird and a betel nut addiction...

Is this city a dangerous place or no? It from what I read on here, it sounds like a nice place to visit.

Papua New Guinea Travel in the Fly River
Posted: Mon September 17, 2007 04:33 AM UTC
I am heading to Papua New Guinea to collect freshwater fishes for science, and one of the places we need to go is the middle and lower Fly River. Can anyone offer advice about traveling in this region? Where would be the best place to fly? Is it easy to hire boats? Any information would be great.

Papua New Guinea how do you get from Vanimo to Goroka?
Posted: Fri July 20, 2007 02:14 AM UTC
Or from Jayapura to Goroka? I can't find any flight schedules online from either place or even to Port Moresby. Also has anyone gone to the Goroka show without reservations? The guidebooks say not to, but I have always wanted to go and the only hotel with an email address there is already full. I would appreciate any advice on trying to get there from Jakarta and the hotel situation? Thanks so much!

Papua New Guinea Kokoda tour operators
Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 05:23 AM UTC
Hi all,

I'm looking for a Kokoda tour operator with a very good knowledge of the military history of the trail (able to point out troop movements in battles on the trail etc.). I've scoured the web and seen their claims, but to those who have hiked it, how knowlegable was your tour operator? Which one did you use?

Papua New Guinea Advice on Papua New Guinea please!?
Posted: Sun February 18, 2007 05:21 AM UTC
HI,
I am travelling to Papua New Guinea in June with a couple of reluctant friends that I am dragging along.
My proposed route is Port Moresby - Tufi - Kokoda trail - Salamaua -boat to- Lae -boat to- Madang -fly to- Wewak and explore the Sepik River area.
I have come up with this route with a guide book and a map. I don't know anyone who has been before and so would love some advice from people who have been before. If you think there is somewhere I musn't miss or somewhere I shouldn't go please please get in touch. I would be very grateful.
Also, I am 18 years old and was wondering if I might experience any difficulities being younger?
I would also like to go to some more remote areas but have no clue as to which areas to go to.
If anyone has done the first part of my route, i'd like to know how easy it is to get from port moresby to Tufi, then to Kokoda track and on to Salamaua. I was hoping to take PMV's as I don't want to fly all the time. Is this easy?
Thanks for reading, hope you can get back to me

Papua New Guinea Milamala 2007
Posted: Sun February 11, 2007 04:32 AM UTC
I am thinking of attending the Milamala festival this year and would appreciate advise from anyone who has been recently.
My rough plan is to fly to Alotau and try to get on a boat heading to the Trobriand, check out the festival and then fly back out to, probably, Post Moresby.
Do you think its possible to just rock up in the Trobriand Islands (and indeed in Alotau) and find accommodation/flights or is it essential to prebook?

Also, any info on air ticket discounts would be appreciated. I have been examining Air Niugini website but its pretty uninformative about the discount ticket deals.

Cheers,
J

Goroka Getting to Goroka for the Cultural Festival in September 2007 from Jayapura, Irian Jaya
Posted: Sat October 28, 2006 09:29 AM UTC
I am trying to arrange a trip to the Goroka highlands festival in September of next year. Any help would be much appreciated in figuring out the best (namely least expensive) way to get there from Jayapura in Irian Jaya, Indonesia.

I believe there is a road from Jayapura across the border to Vanimo in PNG - is there any public transport that travels the route or how do people usually get there? And when I get there, is there a land route to Goroka or another budget alternative? If so, is it feasible to make the journey or am I on a wild goose chase...

Your help is much appreciated...

Papua New Guinea PNG Holidays, PNG Festivals, Budge Travel BEWARE of fraudulent tour operator
Posted: Wed July 19, 2006 04:41 AM UTC
My name is Lillie and I contacted "PNG Holidays" in late 2005 to plan an independent trip to PNG. The short of it, I sent $1200 and another friend also send them deposit of $1200 to find out in April - this company is operating under different names, stealing tourists monies... thru TripAdvisor warning, another couple from Italy also complaint of losing $5000.. The owner Benjamin Nikints operates with Diane and Sam Obedi using multiple websites, office locations, phones, cell phones ande multiple bank account in PNG and Australia.

At this point, we have the PNG Tourist Bureau involved in the investigation and capture of the fugitives who are located somewhere in Brisbane, Australia.

If you have been used the above companies and have complains on their services or your deposit funds have been taken... please contact me ASAP and I will put you in contact with the appropriate local authorities!!!

Please help! My Dad was brough up in Madang and has always told us about his adventures and as he's getting on, I'd love to take him back to relive some old memories. Problem is, I can't find any flights, or anything for that matter from Perth W.A. Do I have to travel to Queensland first? I'd be most grateful if any one has any ideas or knowledge on travel to this region, or to Port Morsby. thankyou!

Papua New Guinea Thinking of traveling to PNG in late July and August
Posted: Mon June 26, 2006 04:59 AM UTC
Hi,

I am thinking of traveling to Papua new Guinea in late July and most of August. I am way behind making plans and can't decide how to do it. I've been reading Lonely planet but can't seem to figure out what would be right for me. I love strange culture and would like to see tribes or indigenous people. I also want to scuba dive, eat great sea food and see beautiful spots. What would you recommend? Thanks for responding -- I have just discovered this web site, but have traveled a fair amount.

I have recently been offered a job on the island of Saipan. I am a bit apprehensive about taking the position because I know little about the place. I am someone who likes to go out occasionally and have a good time. If someone could give me some information about the people, the nightlife, and the culture in general, I would really appreciate it. Anything you know would be helpful!
