I was planning to take a few Aussie trinkets to give to the locals and their children. Any ideas? I would be very grateful.

Fiji - where to spend 5 days Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 05:35 PM UTC
My wife and I have 5 days in Fiji next month. I don't imagine us sunning ourselves for 5 days and therefore think that we may move around the main island and possibly head off to one of the smaller ones for possible day trips.
I know from my reading that staying in Nadi is, with respect, not the 'real' Fiji. Could colleagues on here suggest towns/resorts on the main island to base ourselves please.
Many thanks,
BP

Need some help URGENTLY please :D Posted: Mon September 28, 2009 12:33 AM UTC
My partner and I are looking at going to Fiji next year, but it is very hard to find any proper information on the internet so I have lots of questions, if anyone can answer any of the it would be greatly appreciated.
1) We have no idea which island to stay on. We would like somewhere with clear blue waters, good for swimming, a bit of snorkelling, relaxing etc. So which island would be the best for this ?
2) Where would people recomend to stay we are only looking at paying around $100 - $120 Australian dollar per night (or 170 Fijian Dollars)Is it hard to find places for this price ?? Any suggestions ?
3) What is the travelling like there, How are the taxis, ferrys ?? How do u get to the islands from the Nadi airport ?? are they cheap ?? are the people friendly and reliable?
Sorry for all the questions but if anyone could help with any information it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED
Kind regards.

What is the name of the agency that rents? What is the location in Nadi? Is it doable in an 8 hour layover from 0600 to 1400?

Current Fiji information Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 04:12 PM UTC
I have always wanted to visit Fiji, partly I suppose because of romantic dreams and the image of a tropical paradise. But lately I am reading a lot of unsettling things about the political climate, disease problems, problems of lack of infrastructure services for locals, the undesirable situation with Fiji water, etc.
Does anyone have updated, real information about the situation there?
I'd appreciate if you would share it.

advice on Fiji travel plans Posted: Wed July 22, 2009 11:40 PM UTC
Hi, I am on a RTW trip with 2 mates. Currently in New Zealand and due to go to Fiji at the end of September. My two mates have decided to stay in NZ so I will be travelling alone. I have about a week, am flying in and out of Nadi. Dont know anything about Fiji really so was wondering if anyone had advice on what to do, where to go, where to stay, any specific tours I could book etc? As I am backpacking budget is a factor to so would be looking at recommendations for hostels etc.
Any and all advice appreciated. Thank you in advance.

How to get there? Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 01:20 AM UTC
Hi,
My girlfriend and I might consider spending a week in Fiji this August. She is coming from San Francisco, California while I'll be flying in from Manila, Philippines. How do I get there? I'm having trouble finding flights. What is the best and cheapest airline/way?
Also, is August a good time to go there, considering weather, etc?
Thanks!

HELP!!!! Where to stay on Viti Levu? Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 08:31 AM UTC
We'll be in Fiji for 6 nights in January 2010 after 5 weeks in NZ and I am having trouble deciding where to stay. I'd really like one of those paradise places with palm trees hanging over a white sandy beach and stay in a beach front bure. Since it'll be very hot in January apparently, I guess air conditioning would be nice. Is it necessary? Several places have been recommended: Bedarra Beach Inn is one, and Club Fiji another. Is it a good idea to go down to the coral coast? Or is the west coast closer to Nadi better? I think going to the outer islands will mean more travelling and we'd really like to chill out a bit by then. Would love crystal clear blue seas to swim in, and my husband wants to go diving. Also want to see rainforests and village life, so not just beach. We're NOT looking for luxury - but not cheap budget either, and no backpacker. I googled Mango Bay whose setting looked brilliant, but we're two couples in our 50s and 60s (but very active!) and don't want rowdy backpacker atmosphere. Would LOVE some advice! Thanks a million!

Ca$h? Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 07:00 AM UTC
I'm trying to decide how I'm going to fund my spending during my trip, and have seen different resources say different things (those on the web being a few years back) . . . anyone have any input on ATM's/travelers' checks/the best way to get Fiji $$ in your pocket?
When I was in Europe I found ATM's to be most convenient, while in South America I could barely find ATM's that would accept my ATM card (of all the acceptable logos posted mine wasn't one of them)
Thanks for any advice!

Car: to Rent or not to Rent Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 05:53 AM UTC
I've read different things about driving in Fiji. I heard that it is easy to rent a car, but was also discouraged because of the whole driving on the left side of the road thing. I'll be coming from the US, staying in Nadi as a base. Anyone with experience renting a car and driving around Fiji, versus using Fiji's public transportation?

Itinerary questions for low budget trip to south pacific Posted: Sat January 10, 2009 12:24 PM UTC
hi there!
reading previous posts i understand that as a generalization the south pasific islands are an expensive destination.
but do you think that it is possible to find the low budget path somewhere?
my main interests are tribes/villages/trekking/nature/beaches!
if you could suggest anything feasible in terms of cost/accessibility/safety it would be a great help, so i can focus to specific destinations in my ongoing research!
many thanks

Feejee Experience vs. Yasawa Islands Posted: Sun October 12, 2008 11:02 PM UTC
I am going to Fiji Nov 23-Dec 9th with my boyfriend and I am trying to decide whether or not we should spend 5 days on Viti Levu doing the FeeJee Experience bus tour or if we should just skip it and head to the Yasawas for the entire time. We are interested in seeing the real culture of Fiji and obviouslyl having some great experiences but we are a little concerned that the Feejee Experience will be a bus load of backpackers who want to party all night - which we don't mind doing a little of ut we are trying to enjoy a romantic trip away. We are also concerned that while we will get to do the cool activities listed( sandboarding Sigatoka dunes, mud baths and hot springs, bilibili rafting and tubing down the Navua river) the experience will be dampened by the fact that it will feel touristy with all of these people from the bus trying to do the same thing at the same time. Any comments on the Feejee Experience trip? Is it worth giving it a shot and then heading to the Yasawas or should we just skip it and spend more time in the Yasawas and have the chance to see another Island or two instead? Any comments would be appreciated.
Also any recommendations on quieter islands to stay in the Yasawas to be able to get away from it all would be appreciated.
