Belfast Need info on summer jobs and daycare
Posted: Mon November 14, 2005 11:46 PM UTC
Hello. My husband, daughter, and I are moving to Belfast for 3 months next summer. We have a 3 bedroom house in the Woodstock area (on Ogilvie road). Does any one know about childcare in the area, how much it costs, what type of programs there are, etc. Our daughter will be 4.

Also, how is the job market when we'll only be staying for 3 months? Is it easy to get a restaraunt job without a contract for a longer period? also, about how much would average wage be with tips? Any suggestions about where to look for work?

How about monthly bus passes? How much $$ are these? Also, we have found the house which agreed to let us stay for 3 months with our daughter. It is a nice 3 bedroom, fuly furnished for 350 pounds a month. Is this a really good deal or just average?

Can't wait to come, Just wondering about some of these details since were on a tight budget, want to make sure everything is possible. any tips will be helpful. thanks!!

Belfast Information on Belfast urgently needed !!
Posted: Wed September 14, 2005 12:03 PM UTC
Hi,
My niece is about to start a one year PGD/Msc course in communications, Advertising and Marketing at the University of Ulster. She is scheduled to reach the Jordanstown campus on the 22nd of this month and we would be grateful for any information my fellow members (based at or had been to Belfast)can provide about the day to day life there. She is from Kerala, India and is venturing out of India for the first time and the family here are naturally anxious. As I am temporarily away from the UK the possibilty of my visiting the place to gather first hand information (would've been the case normally) also looks out of question. We are interested to know more about student life there (she will of course be staying inside the campus) and more about the safety level in general when you are out and about. Public transport is another area we are interested to know about including how expensive, frequent and reliable it is. Like the other UK towns(for eg. Oxford)are there charity Shops (Oxfam, Bernardo's etc) where a budget concious student can buy reasonable 2nd hand clothing and foot wears? Any info covering areas like this is warmly welcomed. We also would like to have friends from that area with whom we can continuesly communicate via e mails and perhapes even arrange cultural exchanges at a later date. I look forward to hearing from my fellow VT members in Belfast and would like to thank you all in anticipation.
Cheers,

(NOTE: THIS HAS ALSO BEEN POSTED ON THE MEETINGS PAGE.)

Hello my dear friends
Two VT MEMBERS, Jinete (from Norway) and Bilimari (from New Jersey), will be in Belfast in about 10-14 days. I am organising a COMBINED VT MEETING on TUESDAY AUGUST 23. Would you be available???
It would be nice to see both old and new faces!
Please confirm your presence / absence so I can make the restaurant reservations accordingly.
Hope to see you soon,
zuzu

PLACE: Benedicts Restaurant, 7 - 21, Bradbury Place, Tel: 02890-591-999

SO we would have supper at this place called BENEDICTS, where they have a "Beat-the-clock" menu, i.e. if you order your meal at 6pm, it will cost you 6£! Belfast Living in Belfast
Posted: Fri April 1, 2005 03:26 PM UTC
Hi!
I may be staying in Belfast for at least a year; I know that the place where I'll be working is in the Northern Ireland Science Park (BT3 9DT).
What I would like to know is what would be a good place for renting a small apartment, so that it's not that far away from work. I would also need to understand what buses I could take from that place to work, costs and time involved.
I've looking at propertynews.com to see places available for rent, but I don't have a clue of how far are those places from the place I'll be working.
That's why it would be great if someone could suggest places to rent (zip code) and provide some info about transportation.

Thanks!

Belfast Train to Dublin
Posted: Fri February 25, 2005 04:29 AM UTC
Hello,
I've been through irishrail's website and can't find a way to know how much cost the train between Belfast and Dublin, it keeps saying we can't book a train in North Ireland... But the train map marks both cities. I guess it's because they are two different countries...?

Is there anyone who knows how much cost the journey, or so. Or knows another way to find the rate?

Any help is appreciate!

Many thanks

Belfast Belfast pub - can't remember name or address!
Posted: Fri February 11, 2005 05:14 AM UTC
I'm trying to locate the name and address of a pub I visited in Belfast a few years ago. All I can remember is that it was on a corner of a back street, it had a lot of Elvis memorabilia in it, one of those cages at the doorway where you had to be buzzed in, and a regular whose only vocabulary seemed to be 'f**k you'!

Does anyone have any idea what I'm rambling on about?

Cheers

Belfast Advice?
Posted: Fri May 28, 2004 03:10 PM UTC
I'm going to Belfast for the first time next week, and have a free evening. As far as I can see from skimming websites, the main attractions open in the evening are old pubs. I'm happy to do some pub-crawling, but does anyone have any other advice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I am a Wales fan and hope to come to Windsor Park to see the World Cup qualifier against NI next year.

Can anyone tell me where the ticket touts hang out and how much I might have to pay?

Are there any general tips about watching international football at Windsor Park? What sort of food can I get at the stadium?

Hi,
I am interested in moving to Belfast to study to become a nurse but I wanna know what the area's like, specifically I need to know what the pubs are like (I have my priorities straight). Are there pubs which play irish music and clubs which play alternative, rock or heavy metal? (I have strange tastes I know!!!)

Belfast WELCOME ZUZU TO BELFAST VT MEETING - TONIGHT FRIDAY AUGUST 15!!!
Posted: Fri August 15, 2003 10:37 AM UTC
Hello my dear friends,
Here is my latest update regarding the VT MEETING IN BELFAST:

DATE: TONIGHT FRIDAY AUGUST 15
TIME: 6PM
PLACE: NORTHERN WHIG (outside, but inside if it is too cold or raining!)

LOOK OUT FOR: VIRTUAL TOURIST T-SHIRT!!!

THEN we will head on over to PIZZA EXPRESS on Lisburn Road for supper (I will be making the reservation shortly). The menu is nice, the prices are good as well and I know two people that work there.
THEN if we are still in the mood for partying, we can go to the CHELSEY WINE BAR which is not too far.
Another possibility also, for the adventurous!, is to go SALSA DANCING!!! YES, there is Salsa Dancing in Belfast! They have FREE Salsa classes at the DUKE HOTEL tonight and then you can practice at the club. We can discuss that over drinks and dinner.

Pass this information to whoever you think might be interested in getting to know other fellow VTers in BELFAST!

Hope to see you in great numbers,
Cheers,

Belfast BELFAST - WELCOME ZUZU TO BELFAST VT MEETING!!!
Posted: Wed July 23, 2003 07:22 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I AM BACK!!! I am presently extremely busy at work and that is why I have not been on VT so much recently.
ANYWAY, I think it is loooong overdue that we do something about the fact that I have arrived in BELFAST!!!

SO, I thought a WELCOME ZUZU TO BELFAST VT MEETING was in order, as follows:

DATE: FRIDAY AUGUST 8, 2003
TIME: 6PM
WHERE: NORTHERN WHIG (Bridge Street, corner Waring)

We can start with drinks there - at that time there is still quite a bit of sun and we can sit outside. THEN we could for supper somewhere. I still have to come up with an idea.

I hope lots of you will be able to join us. It is always great fun to meet with other VT MEMBERS!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.

Looking forward to seeing you in great numbers.

Belfast FINDING AN APPARTMENT!
Posted: Thu April 24, 2003 09:13 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I am a Canadian and I have been travelling around a bit for the last year or so. I lived nine months in Spain last year and I have arrived in Dublin on January 14, but my real long term goal (long story!) is to move to Belfast (no, there is no man involved! well at least, not yet!). I have been there once already two years ago and again this past February (when I came back to Dublin I was sick for 3 weeks because there was a "snowstorm" in Belfast during that weekend!!!). I have just come back from my Italian birthday party (3 weeks! Now that is a birthday party!!!) and I am now ready to make my move to BELFAST!

SO I would like to know what is the best, and easiest, way to find an appartment in BELFAST. I would prefer a place of my own, but I am willing to share an appartment with other professional people so long as I have my own bedroom. In this case, I could be sharing in an appartment or in a house.
Also, which area would be the best for someone who is not originally from Belfast?

Hope you will be able to help me on that one,
zuzu
p.s. I am not planning of having a car, unless my (future!) job warrants it.
