Belfast What to ask?
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 08:13 PM UTC
I have no idea what to ask, but I might be visiting Belfast some time in August. All I know is that I'll be setting sail from Bergen, and if the wind permits, I might make it all the way to Belfast. I won't ask about the beer since I know I'll enjoy anything the tap will give me. I also know I will enjoy any type of Irish whisky....oppps sorry, whiskEy as it's bound to be good. And I don't need to ask about the people as I already have met a few of them here and there. The nature and countryside will also guaranteed be welcoming to the eye. So what is there left to ask???

Hi,

Are there several daily return bus-runs to the causeway (from Belfast)?

Is the journey about a 2.5 hour single trip?

Many thanks

Belfast Belfast for 3 days
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 08:45 AM UTC
Hi All

we were thinking of spending 3 days in Northern Ireland in August

1st if all is it a worthwhile place to go to?

Is there much to do in and around Belfast, do we need a car when we are there?

We like cites like Prague to Paris would this compare in any way to those in terms of local culture and events?

Thanks

Belfast Cheap B&B near ferry
Posted: Thu January 29, 2009 05:15 PM UTC
I'll need to spend a night in a B&B in Belfast before catching a ferry from the Victoria Terminal on West Bank Road. Any advice, please, on what area of the city to look in, or, better still, any recommendations? (I've lived and worked in cities with docks areas, and they aren't always the best areas to spend the night!)

Belfast A Day in Belfast
Posted: Sun January 6, 2008 11:46 AM UTC
4 of us are going to be spending a day in Belfast on Saturday 12th January. I can see there is loads to see and do, and a day will not be long enough. We arrive at around 9am and our flight leaves George Best Airport at around 10pm.

Please can anybody tell me where's best to stop for lunch and a pint or 2 of Guiness, and anything else which must not be missed on our day out?

Cheers

Belfast SAFETY IN BELFAST FOR FEMALES
Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 06:43 PM UTC
Me and my best friend are hoping to visit Belfast for the day in December for some Christmas shopping.

I know all cities have their problems, but what would the advise be to 2 girls travelling alone to Belfast.

Firstly, would you advise us to visit full stop?

Secondly, are their any 'no-go' areas, things/behaviour to avoid etc.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Belfast Black taxi tours
Posted: Sun August 5, 2007 11:14 PM UTC
I'd like to do a black taxi tour of West Belfast but can't decide which taxi company to choose - there're at least ten leaflets that I've taken from the tourist office, and my guide recommends two of them: Black Taxi Tours and Original Belfast Black Taxi Tours. Has anyone had any experience doing such a tour with either of these? What companies would you recommend?
Thanks!

Belfast Getting from Belfast bus station to Carrickfergus
Posted: Fri August 3, 2007 09:41 PM UTC
I'll arrive in Belfast at around 23:00 on Saturday to the main bus station and will need to get to Carrickfergus. What are my options? I take it the local buses won't run at such late time, so am wondering if the same is true for the trains? Also, how much would a taxi cost, at least roughly?
Thanks!

Belfast What I plan do in a day and do people thinks it possible
Posted: Sun November 26, 2006 06:16 PM UTC
We will be in belfast for the day we are coming by cruise ship we are arriving at around 8 in Morning and Leaving at 11 that night. What we are planning is get off the ship at around 9.30-10 and head into city centre and do the red open air tour bus and go to the W5 spending around 1-2 hours here. We then think we will go to the zoo and then hopefully fit in some shopping before heading back to the ship in the early evening probably around 7. Does anyone have any comments on this or suggestion. Further do people think that it will be possible for us to do this.

Belfast What to see in do in a day in Belfast
Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 10:40 PM UTC
Hi we will be in belfast on 14 April 2007 and were looking for some ideas on what to see and do while there. We are a mixed age group of two pensioners a 17 year old a 27 year old and a child of 6. We all like history and buildings of interest etc. Also is there any places of interest that would be particularly interesting to a 6 year old although I sometimes think she is only happy when spending money. Someone has suggested that we take a trip out to the Giants causeway which we may consider but we are on a bit of a tight budget with this trip unfortunately. We will be in Blefast for around 14 hours.

Belfast Belfast International airport to Dublin airport - do we have enough time?
Posted: Sun November 5, 2006 01:14 PM UTC
Hello,

How rude of me to ask the quickest way OUT of Belfast?! Perhaps your advice will convice us to stay in Belfast for a long breakfast in January:

We're flying into Belfast International on a Thursday in January, arriving at 5:25 in the morning (!) We have yet to purchase our flights onward to Aberdeen. Which is the better option?:

Fly out of Belfast City airport via Flybe at 12:20pm - would involve a transfer between airports and a long wait. Also, I've heard that Flybe sometimes cancels flights for no reason at all. GBP 50 for two.

Fly out of Dublin airport via Ryanair at 11:50am would involve a transfer into Belfast to Jury's Hotel, and then Aircoach http://www.aircoach.ie/ leaves every hour at the half (7:30, 8:30 etc) for a 2.5 hr ride to Dublin airport. 42 EURO for two and the coach is 14 Euro for two.

Of course, being winter time, we may expect some delays. We'll also need to clear customs in Belfast, and arrive well in time to check in for the next flights.

What are your recommendations? The shuttle bus that goes into Belfast from the airport - does it stop at the Jury's Hotel? Any 'hitches' that you can anticipate? Do Dublin and Belfast have 'rush hours' that would significantly slow down travel at certain times?

If we stay in Belfast, where's the best breakfast in town ;)?

Thanks...

Belfast Hostels and transport
Posted: Thu July 20, 2006 10:52 AM UTC
Hi everyone
I am planning to go to Belfast for few days and I need advcice on hostels. I checked hostelworl.com but it only has about few hostels listed with normal prices, other accomodations are far too expensive! So does anyone know any hostel around 20-25 euro per night for double room (for a couple) that you would recommend and is in the city center? Also, I've noticed that it would cost around 40 euro to get there from Dublin with a train, but I can't find any info for buses?
Thanks guys :)

Belfast Need info on summer jobs and daycare
Posted: Mon November 14, 2005 10:46 PM UTC
Hello. My husband, daughter, and I are moving to Belfast for 3 months next summer. We have a 3 bedroom house in the Woodstock area (on Ogilvie road). Does any one know about childcare in the area, how much it costs, what type of programs there are, etc. Our daughter will be 4.

Also, how is the job market when we'll only be staying for 3 months? Is it easy to get a restaraunt job without a contract for a longer period? also, about how much would average wage be with tips? Any suggestions about where to look for work?

How about monthly bus passes? How much $$ are these? Also, we have found the house which agreed to let us stay for 3 months with our daughter. It is a nice 3 bedroom, fuly furnished for 350 pounds a month. Is this a really good deal or just average?

Can't wait to come, Just wondering about some of these details since were on a tight budget, want to make sure everything is possible. any tips will be helpful. thanks!!

Belfast Information on Belfast urgently needed !!
Posted: Wed September 14, 2005 11:03 AM UTC
Hi,
My niece is about to start a one year PGD/Msc course in communications, Advertising and Marketing at the University of Ulster. She is scheduled to reach the Jordanstown campus on the 22nd of this month and we would be grateful for any information my fellow members (based at or had been to Belfast)can provide about the day to day life there. She is from Kerala, India and is venturing out of India for the first time and the family here are naturally anxious. As I am temporarily away from the UK the possibilty of my visiting the place to gather first hand information (would've been the case normally) also looks out of question. We are interested to know more about student life there (she will of course be staying inside the campus) and more about the safety level in general when you are out and about. Public transport is another area we are interested to know about including how expensive, frequent and reliable it is. Like the other UK towns(for eg. Oxford)are there charity Shops (Oxfam, Bernardo's etc) where a budget concious student can buy reasonable 2nd hand clothing and foot wears? Any info covering areas like this is warmly welcomed. We also would like to have friends from that area with whom we can continuesly communicate via e mails and perhapes even arrange cultural exchanges at a later date. I look forward to hearing from my fellow VT members in Belfast and would like to thank you all in anticipation.
Cheers,
Kris Kandath (KK Mar)
