Wellington Post Office

I was surprised to find we get a Saturday postal delivery in Wellington.
Does anyone know if post offices are open on Saturdays. Got something urgent to post and it would be a hassle to go out today and post it.

Thanks if you can help.

Wellington Smartcard for buses in Wellington
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 08:26 PM UTC
The Wellington Metlink site is quite good but i cannot find out where or how to buy a smartcard.

I have tried several corner stores and 24 hour convenience stores - no joy.

It is much cheaper to have a card and at the moment I have three 10 trip cards - for zones 1,2 and 3.

But like today I am going out to Eastbourne and that is zone 6 - which I would rarely go to so don't want to buy a 10 trip.

And how does a smart card work? Do you keep topping it up or what?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Wellington Accommodation close to the Bluebridge Ferry for an 8am start!
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 09:50 PM UTC
Hi - I am looking for a nice hotel, not too expensive, close to the Bluebridge Ferry for an 8am start, also local attractions.

We are keen to do the cable car. What else should we not miss, apart from Te Papa. We only have 2 days in Wellington.

Regards.

Wellington Makara Beach
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 08:39 AM UTC
I would love to go out and walk the cliffs at Makara again.

I have searched Metlink Wellington but it tells me there is no public transport out there.

Anyone know if there is a small local bus or something?

Wellington What time at night does the place shut down now?
Posted: Sat February 9, 2008 08:32 AM UTC
It's been years and years since I lived in Wellington. Has it turned into party city? Are there any all night pubs, clubs, coffee bars?

What are the licensing laws like now?

What does Sunday look like these days?

Wellington During which months can you go to the beach?
Posted: Tue January 15, 2008 01:14 AM UTC
Hello,

would anybody be so kind to tell me during which time of the year one can go to the beach/outside swimming pools in wellington?

I can look at the temperatures, but I guess I cant compare them to German temperatures (at least not exactly), b/c the sun "burns" more over there, thus it's probably a bit hotter?

How bad is the ozone problem, btw?

thx

Wellington Anyone know?
Posted: Sun November 11, 2007 12:15 PM UTC
Maybe one of the locals can help me out. I tried to reach an outfit in Martinborough called "Wet N Wild Adventures and Tours" but received no response from them. We are leaving this morning from Alaska here heading to Oz and NZ and would very much like to reach them. Do any of you know if this company is still in business? If not,are there any other companys that offer jetboat rides and/or trout fishing that you know of? We will be renting an RV for a couple of days so we can drive a ways from Wellington. Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way! CJ

Wellington phone services
Posted: Thu November 16, 2006 06:00 AM UTC
Hi Friends,

I'm moving from the US to Wellington soon, and I'm curious to know if anyone has advice on phone services. For example, I've heard that I can sign up for a digital phone service (e.g., Vonage) while I'm still in the US now and then use that same phone number and phone service while we're living in NZ. That way, we call easily and inexpensively phone friends and family in the US and they can phone us in NZ. I've also heard that it's cheap and easy just to use calling cards.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Wellington Region where to after wellington??
Posted: Thu May 18, 2006 05:02 AM UTC
just arrived in wellington; plan to stay for three or four days...i'd like to see as much of north island as possible in about ten days/two weeks. i've been told to go up to napier...to taupo (instead of staying in rotorua) to the coromandel peninsular...bay of islands, paiheia...does this sound feasible? i'm also wondering if i can get up to the northwest tip of north island easily?

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated...i've been taking intercity and newman's buses and they are terrific...don't have a car and apparently don't need one!

traveling on south island has been tremendously easy and comfortable...look forward to seeing as much of north island as possible!

thanks again for help.

Wellington Hip places to stay??
Posted: Tue March 7, 2006 03:28 PM UTC
I am traveling to New Zealand and will be in Wellington on the first few days of April, for a business and pleasure trip. Can anyone recommend a few nice/unique hotels to stay at? I am not really searching for Luxury, just nice accommodations in an area that is close to some bars and restaurants that I can entertain at? …Someplace younger and hipper than the old Victorian numbers that seem to be so prevalent. As always, all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

Wellington For a first time visitor
Posted: Mon March 6, 2006 08:30 PM UTC
I'm from Singapore and planning on going to NZ for holiday with a friend. Its our first time visiting New Zealand and we've decided on Wellington.

-> For a first time visit to New Zealand on a budget trip, is Wellington realisticly the best idea or do you recommend another city in New Zealand?

-> Our budget for this trip (6days) is 1,028.14 NZD per person. Is that enough for a simple 6 day stay in Wellington?

-> Whats the weather like in Wellington toward end March?

-> We do not know anyone in NZ so basically we have to find our way around on our own. Is it relatively safe and easy to find our way in and around Wellington?

Please help, thanx. =)

Wellington Long Term Accommodation Wellington
Posted: Tue December 20, 2005 12:50 AM UTC
Dear All,

I am planning to come to Auckland or Wellington to stay and work. Initially I will need somewhere safe and secure to stay for up to the first 6 months. So backpackers hostels and hotels are not really suitable. Does anyone know of such a facility in Wellington whereby we can rent a room for short -medium term safety and security?

Any suggestions welcomed, thanks!!

Wellington Weather Question
Posted: Sat October 1, 2005 08:49 PM UTC
I am coming to visit my son in Wellington in late October and early November for 12 days. I know it's spring there now (almost?) and I am wondering what the average daytime and night time weather will be? My son moved there in May so nstead of trying to get him to answer me, I was wondering if some of you might give an idea on the weather, and how to dress for it. Springtime in the United States is shorts weather, but I was looking at some weather charts and averages and it appears that Wellington and surrounding area might be cooler like maybe late 50 degrees to early 60's. Any help/advice would be appreciated. I'm flying there three weeks from today and am trying to get a handle on things:) Thanks, Justinsmom

Wellington Arrivals Area Wellington Airport
Posted: Thu February 3, 2005 02:03 PM UTC
Myself and some friends are travelling to NZ later this year to meet up with a bunch of guys we used to share a house with many years ago. As far as the mates in NZ are concerned, there is only one of us arriving - we are keeping the arrival of the other two as a bug surprise. But I thought I heard somewhere that people waiting for arrivals at WLG can see passengers disembarking from planes. Is this the case? Would appreciate any info!

Wellington Where to stay, what to do...
Posted: Mon November 15, 2004 11:43 AM UTC
Hi all...

I'm planning to go to Wellington with a friend of mine around Jan 3-18, 2005. We'd like to rent a studio apartment for about 1 or 2 weeks with great view of the harbour, preferably Oriental Bay area. Would appreciate if anyone can advise where I should look to (website etc) or if you know anyone that would let their apartment for that time?

Also, if anyone would advise what should we do in Wellington for 2 weeks? What beach should we go to if we just want to laze around, preferably one without the cold wind.

Thanks beforehand!

Some of it is already locked into definite plans (Te Papa, Cable Car, Botanic Gardens, Film Festival Movies) but I'm quite flexible and open to other suggestions, if someone cares to join me...

I'm trying to map out our travel route and I am wondering how long it takes to drive in a car from Napier to Wellington? The map software says that it is 268km (@100km per hour) it should take almost 3 hours. Is that correct???

Wellington What to do?
Posted: Mon March 1, 2004 08:15 PM UTC
I'm just looking for some advice on what to see and do around Wellington. I'll be here for about 4 months off and on and I'd like to know what I should do during my evenings and weekends without spending a whole lot of money.

Places and events where I might meet some locals would be great!! :)

So far I've been to Courntey Place and found some nice bars and clubs, but I'm looking a bit more laid back pubs. Any advice?

Cheers,

Wellington Which Welly Suburb?
Posted: Sat February 28, 2004 09:19 PM UTC
Hi Guys,

Finally it seems our dream to live in kiwiland is becoming a reality. I have work set up for my arrival and am having to sell my car and find rentals for my house. Mad stuff! Out of essex at last!
During my recent trip I went exploring some of Wellington's suburbs and really loved the likes of Seatoun and Island bay. I was wondering if anybody lives in or around these areas or indeed other subrbs and has any opinions on them? I will be working in Johnsonville and my guy will probably be working in central town or Miramar depending on work. I would like to live somewhere with a little community, a few amenities but most of all, close to the sea to enjoy those sunsets (I'm a photographer).
If anybody lives in any other suburbs and thinks I should check them out too I would love to hear from you. I know it's a bit of a weird question asking others where I should live but I figured if someone was moving to the UK and said they were going to move to harlow I'd probably recommend somewhere else if you get me!!
One final thing, my guy is a 3d animator looking for work around Welly. He's currently working on a showreel to send off to various local companies but if anybody can offer any advice to help him find work we would of course be eternally grateful!!

Thank you lovely people!
