Oxford and Cambridge one-night side-trips from London Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 02:08 AM UTC
I'm planning a one-night stay in both oxford and cambridge as side-trips for a London visit. Is a one-night stay enough to gain a decent appreciation of each town? Or would I be better off canceling one side-trip and extending my stay at the other town?

Cambridge - Sightseeing, food & Travelling... Posted: Mon October 6, 2008 08:46 AM UTC
Hello,
I will be visiting Cambridge just for one day.
I was planning to take a sightseeing hop on / hop off tour bus so I can see more of this city and punt along river cam. Do you think this is a good plan for one day in Cambridge or perhaps someone suggests other things?
Would love to have dinner in a local restaurant - think I'd go for The Eagle, any other suggestions?
The next day I will be travelling to London, so far I know I have to leave Cambridge by train and stop at Kings Cross in London ... can someone please forward a link to the railway station website. I will be staying at the Ashley Hotel, 74 Chesterton Road, Cambridge, CB4 1ER where I believe is best to take a taxi from the hotel to the railway station.
Any suggestions for a lovely day in Cambridge are most welcome.
Stephanie.

Train to Cambridge from London King's Cross station Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 04:31 PM UTC
I am planning to take a train from London King's Cross station to come Cambridge. I was buying the ticket from raileasy.co.uk site and was given two types of tickets - Standard and First class with 10 pounds price difference. If first class provides great comfort, I would go for that. Any word on this? Or there is not much difference. Please advise.

Couple and teenage son looking for accomodations July 7-12 Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 01:41 PM UTC
Hi, we're an American family of musicians (keyboard, voice) coming to Cambridge after playing silent film music in Bologna and looking for an inexpensive place to stay, or a famiy we could stay with and make some music! We know tons of show tunes, folk songs, and perform all over the US for silent films, you will be well entertained...
We love the UK haven't been in 10 years, are tightening our belts with the ridiculous dollar exchange (lucky you! come visit!) and hope we can make some new friends this time around.
Thanks so much

Sunday Bus or train from Cambridge to Heathrow Posted: Wed February 21, 2007 07:14 PM UTC
Hi. I looked on the Natl. Express site for fares from Cambridge to Heathrow on Sunday, May 13, as we have a 5pm plane to catch. The site gives fares, then says they're only good Mon-Thurs., leading me to believe those busses don't travel on Sunday, but an email from them says they do. Anyone know:
a) if Natl. Express bus (coach, they're called) does run on Sunday from Cambridge to Heathrow, in time for us to catch 5pm flight? And Sunday fare?
b) if there's a TRAIN that might be faster? (And where it goes, and connections to Heathrow?)
c) Anyone who lives in Cambridge up for putting a middle-aged couple up for the night of May 12? (Just thought I'd ask!)

Lessons & Carols - King's College Posted: Sun September 10, 2006 04:33 PM UTC
Does anyone have advice about when/where to join the line to gain entrance to the chapel for Lessons and Carols? Are there public facilities nearby? Three of us are traveling from the USA for this marvelous event. Even leaning up against the wall on the outside will make it worthwhile, but would prefer to get in!

VT meeting in Cambridge? Posted: Sun July 2, 2006 06:04 PM UTC
My wife and I are visiting Cambridge on the nights of July 27 and 28. Anyone care to meet us for drinks on the evening of the 28th? We can decide on the time and place later. This is my first trip to Cambridge since 1991 when I took summer classes at the university, so I'm excited to see this wonderful city (and its pubs) again! I posted an announcement in the VT meeting section, so you can sign up there if interested.

Which bridge is the original Cam bridge? Posted: Sun June 18, 2006 02:19 PM UTC
Please bear with me if this sounds horribly naive. I just came back from Cambridge for a short meeting but did not have time to ask the locals this question. All the small bridges along Cam are so uniquely beautiful, but I still want to know which is the original bridge if there is one. In other words, was Cambridge named after a particular bridge? Thanks.

Cambridge vs Oxford Posted: Sun May 7, 2006 02:26 PM UTC
I know it's difficult to compare two different cities, but I'm trying to get an idea of how Cambridge and Oxford are different and similar. I stayed in Cambrdige for a month back in 1991 and loved it. What I really liked was that it was relaxed, peaceful, laid back, and casual, but the city was beautiful and still had plenty to do and see (such as the churches, punting the Cam, walking around looking at all the interesting old architecture, and of course all the pubs). I also liked the fact that I could walk everywhere because the city is so small in area. How does Oxford compare using those criteria? And is one city generally more expensive than the other in terms of accommodations and eating?

Heathrow Airport to Cambridge? Posted: Sun May 7, 2006 04:48 AM UTC
I arrive at Heathrow at 5:55 am on July 27, and I have just two nights before I fly out of Heathrow again, at 11:05 am on the 29th. Rather than trying to cram in London in two days, I'd prefer to skip London altogether and just go to Cambridge if possible.
First, is there an easy way to get from London's Heathrow Airport to Cambridge? If so, how? And will I be able to do it that early in the morning? Also, will I be able to leave Cambridge early enough on the 29th to get to Heathrow in time for my 11:05 flight? I need to check in two hours early.

Need a two bedrooms flat for april 2006 Posted: Sat March 4, 2006 07:20 PM UTC
We are a married couple, I’m Luis 55 ,a spanish Maths teacher and she’s Silvia 50. We are going to Cambridge the first of april, to take an Intensive English Course in Aspect College Cambridge for 4 weeks, since we take part in a bilingual project in our country. So we need acommodation during this month. We’d be interested in a two or three bedrooms flat since our two daughters will probably visite us , and would be important that it was well communicated with 75 Barton Road.
