Best way to go Posted: Wed October 28, 2009 11:43 AM UTC
Planning on leaving Sydney on 19/12/09 to go to Adelaide for Christmas break .Would it be best to go via Hay plains ?Which I hear is long and boring or is there a better route I want to take a few days to get there so as not to rush it and see some of the country side .And would like to return around 27th via a different route maybe the coast road to Melbourne then up to Sydney ,Any suggestions as I have only ever flown and really want to experience the drive .
What kind of accommodation is available on Kangaroo Island for maybe 30-35 year 9 students travelling by bus? They are about 14 years old and we'd be looking at taking them to varied places for different activities. Any suggestions? It would be in November. Thanks!
My friends and I would like to travel to either Melbourne or Adelaide for a 9 days holiday during mid-May. However we are unsure about the weather and the attractions that would be available during this period.
Is there anyone who can enlighten us on which venue would be appropriate for adventure and fun?
I'm driving the GOR from Melbourne end of March. Can someone give some advice on lodging not far from the ferry to KI and what to expect weather to be like that time of year?
Hi all, although I live near Adelaide I never use public transport and am going to the Andre Rieu concert evening of the 18th Nov. We plan on having an early dinner in the city then need to get to the stadium (together with 10,000 other people), can you please tell me the bus route or if there is a train. Are there buses back to the city around 11p.m.?
I will drive there if need be but am not at all familiar with that side of town. I will be coming into the city on Main North road.
King Island Posted: Tue November 4, 2008 07:31 PM UTC
Is it practical/possible to make a day trip out of/to King Island? What is the best transportation there (are there ferries?) or one airline over another?
Thank you,
Elizabeth
Is there any practicality to day trips to Kangaroo Island, or is it too far, too much? How long does it take to get their/back by ferry?
Thank you,
Elizabeth
Hi. My name is Yasmin and my hubby and I (in our early 30s)will be in Adelaide from 11th Dec. We are hiring a car and would like to share the cost of travel with a couple who are interested in going to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide on the 12th of Dec to the 15th of Dec. We will then be making our way up to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road and plan to reach Melbourne on the 20th as we have a flight to catch early on the 21st.
We are huge nature lovers want to see as much of the natural beauty of the route as possible. We are easy going and flexible and just want to have a relaxing time :)We plan to camp at safe campgrounds.
The cost for a couple will be AUD500 (per pax $250)which includes the following :
1. car rental
2. petrol
3. Sealink ferry charges for car (does not include your ferry pass that is about $164 per couple)
4.my hubby driving for the 10 days.
We plan to camp at safe campgrounds. If your travel plans fall into the above dates, pls email me at yrparanjothy@hotmail.com
Am really sorry but you have to be a non smoker :)

Hi. My hubby and I (in our early 30s) will be hiring a car from Adelaide on the 11th of Dec 2008 and we'll be going to KI on either the 11th or 12th. We'll be in KI for 3 nights camping and we want to see as much of KI as we can. Having a car is a great asset, i believe.
It's a small car (Hyundai Getz)so it'll only be able to accomodate 2 medium sized people in the back seat with medium backpacks.
The cost for 2 pax total will be AUD350 that includes the following
1. Return travel from Adelaide to Cape Jervis where we take the ferry to KI (and back to Adelaide).
I've checked around and I think theres a coach that runs between Adelaide and Cape Jervis for AUD40 per pax return. So just that would cost you both AUD80 if you were to make your own way to Cape Jervis.
2. The ferry cost of the vehicle (does not include your ferry pass that you'll have to buy seperately)
3. The car rental cost
4. Travel within KI for 3 days to all the interesting places that we can discuss and go to.
5. The total fuel cost
5. My hubby driving :)
I do believe that this would be one of the cheapest ways if your on a budget like us to see as much of KI and enable us to be flexible and go to all the interesting places in KI.
If your interested, pls email me at yrparanjothy@hotmail.com with title to email 'Anyone want to share a car with us to KI?'.
Adelaide Show Posted: Sun August 17, 2008 10:35 AM UTC
Is it worth coming down from Sydney for the Adelaide show which I saw is on first weekend in September ?
I have been to the Sydney Royal Easter show many times .
Just thought it might be something different to do for the weekend .
My wife and I will be in Adelaide Oct 12-14 and are thinking of taking the Barossa Wine Train trip (1/2 day or full.) Has anyone ever done this?
We know we could tour wine area via tour bus but we're kind of train buffs and enjoy train travel. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Hey everyone!! I am going to be in Coober Pedy in about 4 or 5 days and was hoping someone could pass along their #1 place to stay!! We want to definitly stay underground, not too expensive (no more than $150/night) and just unique??? Any ideas??
Thanks!
Hello, my husband and I will be in Adelaide for five days, three of which will be spent on Kangaroo Island.
We know this area of Australia is world famous for its wines and would like to do a tour. Does anyone have any suggestions? We thought about hiring a car, but the mixing of wine tasting and driving is likely not a good idea. We tend to shy away from large bus tours if this is possible.
Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice you can give!

My family is planning to go australia, places like Adelaide; Brisbane; perth for 1 week holiday in coming october but my father is disable and he needs to be in his wheelchair all time. Can anyone suggest where we can go and shop in australia.
Thank you.
I will be popping in Adelaide in August and would like to know what are the "must-visit" places in the city. I will only have 3 days so would like to make the most out of my visit. Thanks a million! :)
hi all, im planning on a trip to adelaide somewhere in late october. hopefully to find a place to stay near north terrace. Are there any good recommendations around that area? apartments,house,hotels... yep not to forget its about a 15days stay
next i would probably want a hire car. sports or luxury.. anyone has a good deal on it? How long is the trip to perth or melbourne? is it easy to drive there?
as it will be my first time around in adelaide, i most welcome tips, hints, cautions, advise, comments from you guys!
Hi, I'm looking for an inexpensive 2-day tour of Kangaroo Island. I have seen that the Adelaide Youth Hostel offers a tour. Has anyone done this tour? Is it a quality tour? Alternatively, has anyone used the company Surf and Sun? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
In July I would like to travel form Adelaide to Alice Spings by public transport. In between I was thinking about visiting Barossa Valley, Wilpena Pound and Coober Pedy. I have two questions about this:
- Can these destinations easily be reached by public transport (if yes, which service?) or is it better to skip?
- How long should I stay at these locations? Are there many interesting things to see and do?
Anyone know of a good way to organise a car pool in Adelaide?? I found a couple websites that match people up, but after registering with each of them, shock, horror, there is noone in Adelaide registered on their sites ... except ME!
Am I really the only person in Adelaide who wants to commute in a car pool??
If you live near Glenelg and work anywhere near North Terrace and you have a car but want some money for petrol and some company for the drive (I can drive too if you like) ... please let me know!! :)
It's so hard to be environmentally conscious these days! Public transport here in Adelaide is just shocking at the moment, I've had it up to here. The tram is always late and full and overpriced. I'm not upset enough (yet) to buy a car. ;)

Hello,
Thank all of you for your replies to my first posting. I really appreciate your feedback!
I am traveling to Australia with my son who is 30 years old, and the situation is that we have had a difficult relationship in the past. This trip is an opportunity to let him know how much he means to me. We live near Los Angeles, CA., and I am not healthy and don't know if I will be able to travel in the future.
Thanks to your help, we have decided on our itinerary:
1. Arrive in Brisbane on 8/31/08
2. Leave Brisbane and arrive in in Adelaide on 9/3
3. Leave Adelaide and arrive in Melbourne on 9/5
4. Leave Melbourne and arrive in Sydney on 9/8
5. Leave Sydney on 9/13 and arrive in Los Angeles
We have already booked the flight and the hotels and I was wondering if I can get guidance on what we should do during our stays in these four locations.
My budget is limited but I feel that this is a once in a lifetime chance for us to have a second chance to re-develope our relationship. I want my son to remember this trip for the rest of his life and am so grateful that he agreed to it.
I am afraid that if we go there without knowing what we must see, I will surely regret it.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you for your kindness in this matter.
I am wanting to travel by 4WD from Broken Hill to Northern Flinders Ranges via Lake Frome. What route do you suggest and are any permits required. Two vehicles leaving in April or May 08
