Melbourne Apline Resort
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 05:06 AM UTC
Dear VTers

Pardon me if you find this question silly.

I will be going to Melbourne on 30 May - 8 Jun with my family (3 generation, 6 adults 3 kids). This is my third time to Australia and 2nd time to Melbourne but first time for the rest of my family member.

They are keen to stay in any one of the Alpine Resort to feel the winter, however, most of the Alpine resort only open on 6th Jun (lift operation) and even if they are open there is no guarantee to see it snowing, right?

So my question is, which alpine resort is most likely to snow in the early winter during our period of stay? Falls Greek, Mt Buller, Hotham, Baw Baw, Lake Mountain?

Our itineraries (self drive) :-
30 May - Apollo Bay
31 May - Warrnambool
1 Jun - Philips Island
2 Jun - Philips Island
3 Jun - Yarra Valley & Marysville
4 Jun - Alpine Resort
5 Jun - Alpine Resort
6 Jun - Melbourne City
7 Jun - Melbourne City
8 Jun - Early morning departure

What do you guy think? Good for family? Or shall we alter it?

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Coln

Melbourne Satisfactory shopping & activities within Melbourne CBD?
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 12:01 AM UTC
Hi there :)

I have had a wee search but there is a bit of a mixed response on where to go shopping in Melbourne. So can anyone please help me out with this? We are going to be based in the Melbourne CBD. We won't be travelling out of Melbourne itself & won't be doing any long bus trips etc due to having a young baby with us & still trying to stick to "some sort of routine". It's going to be a bit of a laid back & much needed break. We have chosen to stay during the week but also over the weekend so we can be part of both on our stay.

Will we be satisfied with sticking within the CBD & pretty much walking most places?.. We will have a stroller for bubs :) It does sounds like the public transport is pretty damn good, from what I have been told on this site :)

Thanks

At $16 this seems quite expensive for a 20 minute journey to the city centre.I am travelling solo and wondered if there is a nearby station to the airport I can get to to make use of a Metlink daily pass ($6.50)which seems excellent value. Can anyone help?

Melbourne VT Friend in Melbourne?
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
Hey, I'm going to be in Melbourne in mid June (about the 15th...perhaps the weekend after), I'm going by myself, I do have some friends there but would like to meet new people too.

I'm not doing much planning, just the essentials, so I am flexible... I'm not really sure on the places to go and such, would be good to explore a new city with some new people.

Let me know if you're up for something. =)

Hi,

- Can anyone tell me if the route realistic an nice and if we miss something in this itenary that we can't miss?
- Is it a nice drive in winter?
- Is the penguin parade on Philip Island also in June or is it seasonal?
- Can anybody give me tips about must sees in Philip Island, Apollo Bay, Port Fairy and Robe?
- Does anyone know nice hostel accommodation in these places for a thirty year old?

Kind regards,
Mark

Melbourne Tips for accommodation
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 08:03 PM UTC
Hi all,

In June my girlfriend and I will visit Melbourne for five days. We have some basic questions:

- What are the must sees in Melbourne? We like to walk a lot to see as much as possible and are not really art lovers. Tips are welcome
- Does anybody have suggestions for some nice hostel accommodation for two thirty year olds? We would like to get in touch with people but don't like a party hostel with only twenty year olds
- We know it is winter in Melbourne, but what temperature and weather can we expect in June?
- What is the one thing that you have to do when you are in Melbourne for the first time?

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards,
Mark

Hi there,

I will be going to Melbourne with 2 others on a conference trip in mid June. We will be arriving at Melbourne airport on a Friday morning around 8am and we just need to be back in Melbourne city by Saturday night. Can anyone recommend a good winery tour, a nice B&B stay in the countryside, and anything else we can fit within the 2 days? We wouldn't mind renting a car to drive around.

Thanks!

Melbourne Is it possible to get from melbourne airport to melbourne CBD without an infant car seat?
Posted: Sun March 16, 2008 01:59 AM UTC
Hi there :)

We will be in Melbourne in May. We are travelling with an infant. We don't want to hire a car. Just wondering if it's possible for us to travel around Melbourne without having to hire an infant car seat? Can we just hop onto a bus to get around? Also is there a direct transfer or some way of getting from the airport to our Hotel in Melbourne without needing an infant car seat? Is there a bus that might possibly take us there directly?

Hope someone can help :o/

Thanks :)

I recently visited the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. I recall there were not 12 any longer, and have since read differing reports that at present, there are 7, 8 and 9 remaining. What is the correct number?

Will be visiting Melbourne at the end of March, and we are looking for a good quality Italian resturant who does Authentic Italian, preferrably Northern Italian. We have heard that Carlton is the place to go, but have also heard that there is a lot of Cafes that all follow the same thing.

Many Thanks

I am looking for some not expensive hotel/motel/room around Genoa just to sleep over night. Same day I will have quite long drive from Phillip Island, so I would prefer to make reservation in advance to prevent problems of searching place for sleeping in the evening.

So do you know any hotel/motel/room around Genoa for 2 people that I can book simple over internet? Thanks.

Now my inquiry is if I do need to get an Australian visa anyhow?
Please reply also considereing the option in case if there will be the shift from one plane to another in the Melbourne Airport.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,
