American-Born Citizen trying to get into Gaza to see family friends Posted: Sun November 19, 2006 04:30 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone give me some information on how to enter Gaza? I know I have to enter from Israel via Erez. But do I need a special permit? Also, is it better to try to enter alone as a 22 year old female (American Born), or with my mother who was born in Palestine, but is an American citizen (we both have American Passports)? What's the best way to get in? Tell the border control officers that I am visiting family/friends, which is what I want to do...or should I say that I want to meet with a doctor to volunteer because I am premed (I do have connections with a Gazan doctor). Any information or direction would help, thanks =)

Considering "peace trip" to Israel/West Bank Posted: Sat September 16, 2006 01:59 PM UTC
I am considering going on a trip organized by Global Exchange/Reality Tours to Palestine, in which participants meet with peace activists both in Israel and the West Bank. Locations to be visited are Jerusalem, Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus or Jenin. My husband and many of my friends think I'm nuts because it would not be safe. However, Global Exchange says they have organized these trips four times a year for a while and have never had an incident. They say they are very careful, and change the itinerary as needed on a daily basis. Can those of you who have travelled to this region recently give me your perspective? How risky is this itinerary, given the fact that I would be "associating with activists"?

complicated trip: jordan- palestine- israel. Posted: Wed July 19, 2006 11:04 PM UTC
Hi, salaam, shalo,peace everybody,
I planned this trip to birzeit university summner camp for two weeks which had been cancelled today for security reasons. i asked the organizator if they could find me spot to sleep so i would go anyway, they told me that they would arrabge a bed at the dorm on campus. so i am going anyway..
Tomorrow evening i am heading to Amman, after sepnding 6 days i wll go to palestine on the 26th. what is the best option to cross the border how to get from amman to ramallah, preferably without a stamp on the passport? where do you suggest to see in the region in 5 days?
on august 2nd i am planning to move forward to jerusalem, am i going to cross the border or what is going to happen? i made my reservations for jerusalem
and finally on the 7th i will go to ben gurion to fly back to turkey. my flight is 10.40 in the morning considering that i will be having been to palestine and jordan plus travelling alone plus different departure and arrival destinations like amman and tel aviv i will be subjected to a lot of questions. in this respect what time should i show up at the airport to catch my flight and what is the cheapest way to do so?
i am also open to any suggestions in general
thanks a lot

safety in palestine Posted: Tue July 4, 2006 09:56 AM UTC
Hi - has anyone any viewpoints on safety in palestine at the moment? I am booked on a flight to Israel in the next few weeks and am concerned that whilst in Palestine (around Bethlehem) I will encounter hostility for being a white westerner. Although I am in a group - other members seem unconcerned about the situation - Am I overly concerned? Or right to be anxious over what seems to be a particularly intense time in the area?

information on renting a place in bethlehem Posted: Sun June 11, 2006 10:00 PM UTC
I am a student in Jerusalem studying Islam and Middle Eastern studies and I am thinking about moving to Bethlehem in August. I have lived in Israel for a year and would like to move to Palestine because I feel that it would help me have a better understanding of the situation here. I must admit I get a very one-sided view of history and politics here. My problem is that I dont know how to go about finding an apartment. There are not any Internet sites available at least that I have found. I am coming into Bethlehem on the 17th and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where I should look or whom I should talk to. I would appreciate any advice I could get on the matter.
Thank you

At Tel Aviv Airport Posted: Mon June 5, 2006 04:51 AM UTC
stuyding arabic in the WB, concerned about protocal at the Ben G. Airport. Travelled to one ME country before for arabic study but wil be arriving on a new passport this time. Does telling airport security my plans guarantee me a quick flight out of the country or at least a few hours of questioning? How naieve is it to prefer being straitforward with airport security?

Is Public Transport reliable, cheap, and safe? Posted: Tue May 16, 2006 05:51 PM UTC
The news of local buses being blown up in Israel and West Bank worries me, but I'm thinking that there may be a lull in this excitement with Fatah-Hamas rivalries occupying the political agenda. Can I skip the tour bus or rental car and simply climb aboard the local bus without too much worry? What complexities are there in finding a bus, particularly one that goes through check points in the West Bank area. Also, are there alternative versions of public transport--bus, minivan (non-tourist), or metro trolley? I've heard that diplomatic employees aren't recommended to use the local bus, but maybe I as a spontaneous tourist may be safer. I'm black haired, tanned, and don't talk a lot.

Travelling to Ramallah in June / advice wanted Posted: Sat May 13, 2006 09:38 AM UTC
Hi,
I am travelling to Ramallah soon and know very little about the dos and don'ts, aside from the usual respect one has to have for some one else's culture. I'm going for a meeting there with a theatre company I made contact with. I've read a few of the postings in this forum but there are still a few greyy areas for me. Can anyone answer the following questions?
1. What are the main changes and how freely can you roam around once in Ramallah under the new government?
2. What is the general attitude towards westerners?
3. How easy is it to enter the city with filming equipment? (very specific question this one...)
4. Where is the best check point to enter from Israel?
5. I'm travelling to Tel Aviv and then to Jerusalem. Is this the best way to enter?
Many thanks for your help.
All the best,
Antonio Rui

Still Totally Confused Posted: Sat March 18, 2006 12:59 PM UTC
Are you sure that it would be best to fly to Tel Aviv, not Egypt??? I have not even left the U.S. since I was 11 years old (16 years ago) and I have a passport that I recently renewed. What else do I need to do? Do I have to fill out anything like visa info anywhere? If anyone can even point out obvious things to do, I really would appreciate it, because they are not so obvious to me. Thanks so much!!!

Female travelling alone to Palestine Posted: Thu March 16, 2006 03:39 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Palestine in August 2006. I am going to visit the Holy Land and then I will go to Palestine to stay with friends. I understand I must fly into Tel Aviv and that is not a problem. Will I have problems if I tell the officers at the airport that I plan on staying in Nablus??? I have heard horror stories. I am Canadian, born and raised. I've never been to any other country in the Middle East. I want to have a great trip so please advise me. Thank you, Sofia.

Visiting Palestine in November Posted: Mon August 8, 2005 10:27 PM UTC
I am thinking about taking a trip this November to Palestine. I know I can enter either from Israel or from Jordan, but I don't know what is my best choice. I can fly into Tel-Aviv and then go to Jerusalem and onward, or into Amman and travel by land to Palestine. I want to know which choice is best and also, if I fly to Tel-Aviv what's the best/most cost effective way to travel to Jerusalem. Thank you.

A few questions! Posted: Sat April 9, 2005 02:03 PM UTC
I am planning to spend a couple of months in Israel mainly Jerusalem. I also want to visit Palestine during this time, particularly the villages and rural areas. Are there any difficulties in getting in to the West Bank at the moment? Also, from a safety point of view is it safe to visit Ramallah and so on? A couple of Israeli friends warned me to steer clear of the West Bank totally, but then other friends told me they may have exaggerated a little! I know Israel is building a wall to separate Israel from the West Bank will this have any impact on my traveling? And one more question! When Israel pulls out from the Gaza settlements (and I believe much of the West bank) soon, will this affect traveling in Palestine at all will you need new stamps and visas to travel in Palestine then, and is it likely to make things more (or maybe less!) dangerous? Many thanks for your help!!!!

visit to Gaza Strip! Posted: Mon September 27, 2004 11:33 AM UTC
Hi,
I need to go to Gaza next week. Can someone tell me what is the best way to get there? Some people say to fly to Tel Aviv and take a taxi to Gaza but I was told that foreigners are not allowed to cross (Eraz?) into Gaza! Others tell me it is safer to fly to Egypt and cross the border into Gaza!
I know that the situation is very unstable in Gaza right now but my company insisted that I go!! Please let me know what you think or give me any other suggestions you may have. Thank you very much.

Ok, the more I read about internationals visiting Palestine, the quicker I want to make my dream come true! As posted below, I'm a 21 year old Canadian living in Toronto. I'm looking for other internationals (or Canadians) to travel with me to Palestine in October. My plan is to go either way, with or without other internationals. I would like to speak with people who recently returned home from, or living in, Palestine. Please e-mail me at jessegagner@sympatico.ca.
Thanks SOOOOOOO much! Jesse
