Transportation from Dover Western Terminal to Gatewick Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 06:49 PM UTC
We have been attempting to locate reasonable and timely transportation from the Cruise Terminal to Gatewick Airport for a 13:30 departure on June 3, 2009.
Can someone advise what they have found regarding the above? We will be arriving by bus from London, but that does not seem to be practical for the return to the airport.
Thank you.

Speed Ferries Insolvency Posted: Sat December 20, 2008 10:07 AM UTC
This is jolly bad news for all budget-minded travellers. Speed Ferries has entered administration, and as one of their open ticket holders I was informed that the administrators have failed to find a buyer, so the company and the crossings are going down the drain. Prices of crossings are already on the rise as the main, perhaps the only, challenger of the cartel has ceased to exist. RIP Speedferries, thanks for the services done to competition.

a day trip out of london Posted: Tue November 18, 2008 09:34 AM UTC
Hello everyone.
I'll be visiting London in about two weeks (for the third time), and I think it's about time I pay a visit in attractions outside of London.
I'll be traveling on public transportation so would it be wise to plan a day trip combining Dover castle and Canterbury.?
If it is possible, which one should be my first stop, if my journey begins in London? What is the best route and means of transportation?
I'd appreciate some other ideas for daytrips outside of London (already traveled to Windsor, Rochester and Chatham).
Thank you very much for your time and attention,
Rony

Dover to Southern Brittany Posted: Sat November 1, 2008 04:29 AM UTC
We will be coming off a NCL cruise ship in Dover and then want to travel to Quimper in Southern Brittany to get to a Keycamp site near Benodet. We assume the easiest way is to catch a ferry over to Calais and then catch a train from Calais. We are from New Zealand and haven't traveled round the UK or France before, so any advice would be appreciated.

Tour of Kent, including Canterbury and Dover, from Dover Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 07:37 PM UTC
We will be arriving by cruise ship in Dover at the end of July and have about 10 hours (on a Thursday) to tour Kent, focusing on Dover, Canterbury and vicinity. Is there a commerical tour avilable that provides such a tour within our time frame? If not, we'll rent a car and do it on our own in which case suggestions on the sights to see (mostly historical) and travel route will be most welcome.
Thanks for the help.

To Dover from Paris Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 05:00 PM UTC
We are planning on travelling in the late summer and since we have never visited Europe, outside of London, plan on flying in to Paris for a quick look-around and head to Dover later that day. We want to spend one night there and take a cruise starting the next day via Iceland and Eastern Canada ending up in New York. Does the Eurorail from Paris stop before it gets to London? Is there a train to get us back out to Dover once we end up in London? My preference would be to disembark at Calais and take surface transportation to Dover. Is that possible? Thanks very much - in anticipation.

Post-cruise tourist in dover Posted: Thu February 14, 2008 12:36 AM UTC
We will be ending a cruise in Dover and would like to see Dover and Cantebury before going on to London. Is there a train that we can get that goes to Cantebury and back to Dover the same day? What is the average cost of a train round trip to Cantebury? Can we just book tickets when we get there?
Thanks for the info

Transportation to Dover Castle from Cruise Ship Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 01:29 PM UTC
We will be on a cruise ship, visiting Dover for one day -- a Friday in April. We would like to see Dover Castle on our own that day; the cruise ship does not offer its own excursion/transportation. We are in our early 40s and generally good health for walking. Question: how far of a walk would it be from the cruise ship to the castle? What other transportation methods are available to get from the cruise ship to Dover Castle? I'm also looking for street maps of Dover, including the castle and nearby town, to find our way around and not get lost getting back from the castle to the ship.
Thanks,
Lynda

Heathrow to Dover Posted: Thu January 31, 2008 03:44 PM UTC
We will be arriving Heathrow and taking a cruise out of Port of Dover (terminal 2) I am assuming that train is the best means of transportation, however, what are the station points called? According to my information it is Dover Pier to Central London - Victoria or Charing Cross Stations, but I can't find these listed in the options.
Thanks for your help.

When going to England in May we're thinking of taking the ferry from Dover to Calais. Is going there for a daytrip enough in your opinion and what is worth seeing there?
Would like to hear your experiences, thank you in advance.

Premier Travel Inn walk to Dover Castle and other tips? Posted: Sat March 25, 2006 02:16 PM UTC
Hello,
We are staying in Dover Central Premier Travel Inn before our cruise.
Is it possible to walk to Dover Castle and back? My husband has a mobility scooter (of course he would ride and I walk).
I have looked at many maps of Dover and the Marine Parade where we are staying and would like to know if the walk would be dangerous(along highways without sidewalks).
If you think it's too steep or dangerous, how can we get to the Castle? Is there a bus that can carry a scooter?
Can we walk to the cruise ship terminal? I can attach luggage to the scooter. We look like a little caravan with our luggage! :)
Are there any other tips you can give us for our stay?
My husband was born in a little town in Pennsylvania called Dover! I'm sure it's a named after your Dover.
Thanks for your help. I love looking at all the pictures of Dover on the net.

Car rental in Dover Posted: Mon February 6, 2006 12:14 AM UTC
My wife and I are taking a cruise in and out of Dover in May. We are planning to rent a car for a post-cruise visit to see some friends in Leicester. Based on the addresses of the locations for the major car rental companies it appears that most are near each other (on Snargate Street), however, we cannot seem to find out how close each is to the actual port. Does anyone know if we can walk to the car rental location with our luggage?
BTW, we looked into train travel and hiring a private car, but have decided that renting our own car is the way for us.

Best sunrise view? Posted: Sat August 6, 2005 11:23 PM UTC
Our arrival at Gatwick has been moved up, so now we will arrive at 4:30 in the morning (ugh!)...
Our friends in England are insisting on keeping us awake all day to help with the jetlag. We were planning on going to Dover for the day anyway so I guess we'll actually be there before sunrise. Hoping for good weather of course, where are the best 'cliff' views in your opinions? Are the carparks 'open' that early? What is a good breakfast cafe that opens early? Any other 'early morning' ideas / views?
Thanks... Lisa

Hotel with rooms for 4? Posted: Sun June 5, 2005 05:54 PM UTC
Hi VT'ers
Anyone know of a hotel in dover or nearby (Ashford maybe) that has rooms for 3 adults and 1 child. I'm trying to keep the price down on my trip to france and could do with out booking 2 seperate rooms.
Apparently travel lodge and travel Inns have family rooms but only for 2 x adults and 1 x child. - Unfortunately I'll have the Mother-in-law with me as well! (only kidding if you're reading this - you know I love you really)
HELP
