We (4 of us) are going to be in London with our baggage for several days and will need to get from London to Dover to board a cruise ship. What is the best way to get there? We are in the US and would like to make arrangements before we leave home.
Thanks.

Dover Tour of Kent, including Canterbury and Dover, from Dover
Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 07:37 PM UTC
We will be arriving by cruise ship in Dover at the end of July and have about 10 hours (on a Thursday) to tour Kent, focusing on Dover, Canterbury and vicinity. Is there a commerical tour avilable that provides such a tour within our time frame? If not, we'll rent a car and do it on our own in which case suggestions on the sights to see (mostly historical) and travel route will be most welcome.

Thanks for the help.

Dover To Dover from Paris
Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 05:00 PM UTC
We are planning on travelling in the late summer and since we have never visited Europe, outside of London, plan on flying in to Paris for a quick look-around and head to Dover later that day. We want to spend one night there and take a cruise starting the next day via Iceland and Eastern Canada ending up in New York. Does the Eurorail from Paris stop before it gets to London? Is there a train to get us back out to Dover once we end up in London? My preference would be to disembark at Calais and take surface transportation to Dover. Is that possible? Thanks very much - in anticipation.

We will be ending a cruise in Dover and would like to see Dover and Cantebury before going on to London. Is there a train that we can get that goes to Cantebury and back to Dover the same day? What is the average cost of a train round trip to Cantebury? Can we just book tickets when we get there?
Thanks for the info

Dover Transportation to Dover Castle from Cruise Ship
Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 01:29 PM UTC
We will be on a cruise ship, visiting Dover for one day -- a Friday in April. We would like to see Dover Castle on our own that day; the cruise ship does not offer its own excursion/transportation. We are in our early 40s and generally good health for walking. Question: how far of a walk would it be from the cruise ship to the castle? What other transportation methods are available to get from the cruise ship to Dover Castle? I'm also looking for street maps of Dover, including the castle and nearby town, to find our way around and not get lost getting back from the castle to the ship.

Thanks,
Lynda

Dover Heathrow to Dover
Posted: Thu January 31, 2008 03:44 PM UTC
We will be arriving Heathrow and taking a cruise out of Port of Dover (terminal 2) I am assuming that train is the best means of transportation, however, what are the station points called? According to my information it is Dover Pier to Central London - Victoria or Charing Cross Stations, but I can't find these listed in the options.
Thanks for your help.

Would like to hear your experiences, thank you in advance.

Dover Dover during Christmas
Posted: Wed December 20, 2006 01:33 PM UTC
I'm going to be in London over Christmas on vacation and I thought about going to Dover for a day trip on Christmas Day or the 26th since most of the attractions in London will be closed on those days but I'm not sure how to get there since all the rental car places I've contacted say they are out of cars. Any suggestions? Are the trains running on those days? Buses? I've seen pictures of Dover and I would love to visit for just a day (actually I would like to visit for more than a day but thats all I can do on this trip). If you can please give me the names of car rentals or other means to get there I would love it.

Thanks.

Hoping to go on a holiday of a lifetime soon and need to know if the quickest way to get to Dover from Scotland is to fly to Gatwick then get a train from London to Dover which will take about 4hrs I'm told. Is there a nearer airport to Dover than Gatwick? Thanks x

Dover Premier Travel Inn walk to Dover Castle and other tips?
Posted: Sat March 25, 2006 02:16 PM UTC
Hello,

We are staying in Dover Central Premier Travel Inn before our cruise.
Is it possible to walk to Dover Castle and back? My husband has a mobility scooter (of course he would ride and I walk).
I have looked at many maps of Dover and the Marine Parade where we are staying and would like to know if the walk would be dangerous(along highways without sidewalks).
If you think it's too steep or dangerous, how can we get to the Castle? Is there a bus that can carry a scooter?
Can we walk to the cruise ship terminal? I can attach luggage to the scooter. We look like a little caravan with our luggage! :)
Are there any other tips you can give us for our stay?
My husband was born in a little town in Pennsylvania called Dover! I'm sure it's a named after your Dover.
Thanks for your help. I love looking at all the pictures of Dover on the net.

Dover Car rental in Dover
Posted: Mon February 6, 2006 12:14 AM UTC
My wife and I are taking a cruise in and out of Dover in May. We are planning to rent a car for a post-cruise visit to see some friends in Leicester. Based on the addresses of the locations for the major car rental companies it appears that most are near each other (on Snargate Street), however, we cannot seem to find out how close each is to the actual port. Does anyone know if we can walk to the car rental location with our luggage?

BTW, we looked into train travel and hiring a private car, but have decided that renting our own car is the way for us.

Dover Best sunrise view?
Posted: Sat August 6, 2005 11:23 PM UTC
Our arrival at Gatwick has been moved up, so now we will arrive at 4:30 in the morning (ugh!)...
Our friends in England are insisting on keeping us awake all day to help with the jetlag. We were planning on going to Dover for the day anyway so I guess we'll actually be there before sunrise. Hoping for good weather of course, where are the best 'cliff' views in your opinions? Are the carparks 'open' that early? What is a good breakfast cafe that opens early? Any other 'early morning' ideas / views?
Thanks... Lisa

Dover Hotel with rooms for 4?
Posted: Sun June 5, 2005 05:54 PM UTC
Hi VT'ers

Anyone know of a hotel in dover or nearby (Ashford maybe) that has rooms for 3 adults and 1 child. I'm trying to keep the price down on my trip to france and could do with out booking 2 seperate rooms.
Apparently travel lodge and travel Inns have family rooms but only for 2 x adults and 1 x child. - Unfortunately I'll have the Mother-in-law with me as well! (only kidding if you're reading this - you know I love you really)

HELP

Dover Calais to Dover and then London
Posted: Thu April 21, 2005 01:24 AM UTC
Hello everyone!

Our much awaited trip is coming up next month! We were thinking that instead of going back to Paris (we're doing a little road trip in France after we see Paris) to take the Eurostar back to London, it would be neat to leave our rental car in Calais and take a ferry to Dover - see the cliffs! then head back to London. What do you think? Is it too much of a hassle? Is it something relatively painless to do? Not sure how to check on trains to go back to London from Dover.

There will be four of us - hubby, son (he's 13) and me, plus the mum=in-law! We'll have luggage too. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

Thanks,

Naya

Dover Dover to France and then some....
Posted: Wed April 20, 2005 12:27 PM UTC
I need some help with which ferry is best for getting our car from the UK over to Calais. Is one better than another or cheaper? I know the Eurotunnel from Folkestone is probably the most expensive method and probably don't want to go that way. Now once in France, how long should it take to drive down to Provence - Louberon area? Should we plan to do this all in one day or break up the journey? We're planning the trip for mid-September.

Thanks for any help.
