Hi,

Anyone interested to travel together around Yemen during this week? Share costs + safety.

Can anyone also recommend if it is safe to travel independently or do I need to be part of an organised tour? If so, can anyone recommend a good one?

Please get in touch at clemer13@yahoo.com

Cheers

Yemen Yemen - July/August 2008
Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 09:36 PM UTC
Hello,

Hello,

I'm planning to go to Yemen for 2 or 3 weeks somewhere between 26 July and 24 August. As I would like to travel around by 4wd, which seems to be the best way to get around, I'm looking for 2 or 3 travel mates who would like to join me for sharing the costs for this. Please let me know if you're interested so we can see how we get on.

Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Yemen Organized tours of Yemen
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 03:28 PM UTC
I want to travel to Yemen in 2009 (no specific date, yet). I have to see Sana'a, Shibam, Tarim, and Seyun. Anything else is gravy. I have looked up a few tour companies on line. Most were based in Yemen, a couple in other countries. Most have some set itineraries for pre-formed groups. I'm looking for a company that has a tour already organized, but I may not be able to get that. At any rate, are there any tour companies you would recommend or steer clear of? My inclination is to go with a Yemeni company instead of a North American or European one. But I'm flexible.

Yemen Abu Dhabi to Yemen.
Posted: Sat February 2, 2008 03:14 AM UTC
Im just enquiring if i can get a flight from Abu Dhabi to Sanaa in Yemen.
I want to go in July is that good weather?
Also is 5 days to 1 week enough just for a short trip there to look around.
I really want to go with my boyfriend as he is originally from Yemen but has not been there for years and years.
What sort of things can we do, we like to do our own things like walking and looking around, can some one give some suggestions.
Also is it cheap to buy stuff there.
Also does anyone know how much it would cost in Dirhams from Abu Dhabi to Sanaa in Yemen return.

Thanks....

Socotra Socotra-Highlights
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 05:16 PM UTC
Today we decided spontaneously to go to Socotra - we have exactly one week for the island. I`ve looked at the few Sokotra pages, but I`d like to get more detailed info on the must-sees or recommended activities from people who have been there. What regions have the most spectacular landscape, are there good hiking trails, what activities would you pack into a full - five day-itinerary ?

Thx for your help!

Yemen Airlines from Europe to Yemen - which offer best price/service ratio?
Posted: Thu November 29, 2007 09:24 PM UTC
Assalam alaykum and hello!

I would like to see your opinion about 1) which airlines offer best price from Europe to Yemen, 2) which of them offer also reasonably good service (comfort) plus good (inexpensive) price?

I admit having no idea how much costs air travelling from Europe (let's say Germany or any neighboring country or even Turkey) to Yemen. Something like budget airlines do their flights to Sana'a?

The more I think of travelling to Arabian peninsula, the more I like the idea of experiencing Yemen atmosphere.

Thank you a lot, have a nice day!

Yemen Independant Travel In Yemen - Warning
Posted: Sat November 24, 2007 03:20 PM UTC
If you are from the US or the UK and are thinking about travelling in Yemen independant of an expensive tour agency and 4X4, forget it.

Ive been studying here for a month to learn some Arabic at a local university and today went to apply for travel permits and was turned down flat. Even to Khokaban or Shiban just outside (50km or so) the capital, Sana'a, was refused. I offered to take internal flights over any areas they thought might be a security issue but was still refused. My visit here has turned into a farce and complete waste of money and time because I cannot afford the $80 a day or so for an expensive tour. I was told by the Ministery Of Tourism this specificaly applied to UK and US visitors only.

I hope this might save you similar grief. I wish I could hate this country, but I cant. Only my own. The irony is that this is probably the safest capital city Ive ever been to and the people the warmest and most hospitable. The chances of me being able to vent my anger on a mugger or pickpocket on the way back to the hotel tonight is zero. How ironic.

Yemen Is it safe to visit Yemen?
Posted: Mon October 8, 2007 02:23 PM UTC
I am planning to visit Yemen in March 08 - how safe is it these days? I am worried because i checked the Canadian foreign affairs website and they really do not have good things to say re safety for foreigners. Any areas i should not visit?
Also, do i need to know any Arabic to travel around in smaller villages?
My family's origin is in Yemen, many generations ago, and i am more interested in the way they live than in traditional tourist locations.
Thank you!

Yemen Haraz Mountain Trekking Questions
Posted: Mon October 8, 2007 05:47 AM UTC
My friend and I are planning to trek in the Haraz Mountains. We plan to take a taxi from Saana to Manakha on our 1st day in Yemen organize a guide there and spend the night in Al Hajarrah on Monday night.

How many days does it take to hike to Al Mahwit from here. We would like to do it in 3 days if possible. Then on Thursday we plan on taking a taxi from Al Mahwit back to Saana. Can anyone recommend a trekking itinerary for this route?

Also do we need travel permits to do this trek or do do this drive from Al Mahwit to Saana?

We need to be in Saana by Friday.

Thanks

Hi,

I would like to ask, if somebody would like to travel together around Sanaa, or if there is anybody who I can meet with when I`m there.
If that`s just a tea or a coffee, that would be also great!!

Yemen Socotra
Posted: Wed September 26, 2007 03:43 PM UTC
Ramadan Kareem!

Unfortunately, Yemenia have tripled the originally quoted price for our flight from Mukalla to Socotra and from Socotra back to Mukalla. If anyone knows of any other prices, could you please let me know the cheapest flights available for October 6th, returning the following week (13th October) as soon as possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Would it be possible to take a boat to Socotra? We have insurance so our general safety is not a key issue!

Posted: Mon September 17, 2007 07:36 PM UTC
I plan on 3-4 days trekking in November in either of these places. I will have food, water and tent and will probably hire a guide. I have read what guide books have said about both of these places. Which place is better for scenery, firendly people, culture, etc?
