Does anyone know of a valet parking service that allows you to drop off at Gatwick and, 3 weeks later, allows you to pick up at Heathrow?
Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks Charlie |

One more question if you don't mind. The Gatewick Airport site includes links for currency exchange for outbound travelers from the UK but not inbound. I'll need pounds for the car hire to Dover and was wondering if I should exchange them here in the US or if I could more easily do so at the airport at 7:00 am on a Monday morning.
Thanks in advance, Doc |

We'll be traveling through Gatwick next week and I'm trying to confirm th enumber of allowed carry-ons and just what counts as a carry-on. I've read conflicting information, perticularly in regards to purses and satchels. Some sources say check with the airline while others say that airport security controls li. We're planning on one large checked bag and one carry-on suitcase each. My wife will also have a medium sized purse and I'll likley have a child's school book bag. I guess our option is to check a second bag each. Can anybody help us out?
Thanks, Doc |

We will be arriving in Gatwick because we're spending the night in Dover before leaving on a cruise. Problem: We arrive in Gatwick at 6:00 a.m., so instead of going directly to the B&B (which won't be ready 'til afternoon), we'd like to get into London and do a few drive-bys........ transportation seems awfully expensive & we hate dragging our luggage everywhere with us. Any suggestions as to how to get around and what to see in an 8-10 hour time period?

Can anyone tell me if there is any public bus service around Gatwick Airport. At Heathrow, if you want to get to one of the nearby hotels, the public bus service is free. Can anyone tell me if it is the same at Gatwick. I know there is a shuttle service but this costs £4 each way and I am on a tight budget. I need to get to the Mercure hotel very near the airport.
Thank you. Graham |

We will be arriving at Gatwick at 10:15 a.m. this Thursday (June 19) and our connecting flight does not leave until 8:55 p.m. that night. My wife is not comfortable traveling to London (she is very time focused and the stress of worrying about getting back in time would not allow her to enjoy herself). We're also traveling from Toronto overnight so we might not be as alert as you would hope.
Can anyone offer some suggestions of how to pass the time in the Crawley area (somewhere where we can be back to the airport within a short period of time)? It doesn't have to be mind-blowing - a nice authentic pub, a pretty park, something that doesn't necessarily jump out as a tourist attraction would be fine. I just don’t want to waste the day. |

I am arriving at Gatwick north terminal by bus around 5pm. next week. Is there any decent places near, not in the airport, where I can take my wife for an inexpensive meal. I shall have to use local bus service or use hoppa to go as I will not have my own transport.Thank you, tjdris

Hi Folks;
In a few days' time we're flying out from Gatwick at 06.30. Can anyone tell me what the check-in and security queues are currently like at that time in the morning? - just bad or really, really bad? Cheers, Malcolm |

I arrive in LGW at 7am and depart at 2:15pm, which gives me roughly 7 hrs. Taking away 1 hr to clear customs/immi and 2 hrs for checking in for my next flight to DXB, that leaves me 4 hrs in which I'd love to pack in as much as possible. Questions:
1. Any suggestions for a package tour that isn't astronomically expensive and covers Big Ben, Trafalgar Sq, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Picadilly Circus, etc. with a pick up/drop off at Gatwick, all in the space of 4 hrs? 2. If there isn't a ready-made tour available, how about public transport - can I catch the national rail, visit London, take in the main sights (can I use Bus 11 from victoria for all the above?) and be back before noon? 3. About cabin baggage - I've checked with continental airlines which is my flight into LGW from Houston, and they allow an extra laptop bag in addition to a cabin bag. I checked with Emirates air which is the outgoing flight from LGW to Dubai and they allow an additional laptop bag as well. Since LGW security doesn't allow an additional bag, is it an option for me to stow my carry-ons in a locker room at LGW before clearing customs for my little sojourn? Any quick tips much appreciated! |

Hi Gang;
We're EasyJetting from Gatwick to Athens, departing at 06.35 On the print-out it says that for flights departing before 08.30 you can check your baggage in after 20.00 the previous evening. Has anyone ever used this facility? If so, is it worthwhile - i.e. shorter queues, less frantic, etc? Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers, Malcolm |

Does anyone know if you can still carry a handbag as well as your 5kg luggage on board the aircraft?? I know they are really strict now and understandably too, but I'm not sure if I can take my 5kg plus a small handbag? I'm flying to Canada. Thanks for any replies.

I have a couple of hours to kill before my flight from Gatwick on a Sunday afternoon.
Can anyone recommend a nice country pub within a couple of miles of Gatwick where I can get a reasonably priced Sunday lunch. I know I can eat at the airport but a pub appeals. |

Does anyone know if you can spend Euro's at Gatwick Airport!? I have some left from other trips and we're going to Canada so thought I'd try and use them up at the duty free, but not sure if they take them!

Have searched train web sites for itinerary and fares from Gatwick to Dover Priory, and have the routing. (Traveled the tube in Japan but am a novice on UK trains). If I read thinks correctly, I don't need to make reservations on the Southern and Southeaster trains, but I don't understand the term "penalty fares." What are they and when do they apply?

Our flight leaves at 6:50 in the morning, and so we are thinking of staying overnight in one of the many hotels. Has anybody got any experiences or recommendations to share - there's not much info on VT for Gatwick, and there are a lot of hotels to choose from.
Thanks, Andrew. |

Hi all, I'm considering renting a car in Oxford, driving around southern England for a few days, then dropping it off at Gatwick Airport's National car rental office on a Saturday evening. As a Yankee who's not very fond of driving on the left in busy areas, I'm a little afraid of getting into any heavy traffic areas if I'm the one behind the wheel. Could someone tell me how much traffic and/or confusing roads I might have to navigate to do this? Ta!

Hi, we are off to Lanzarote for a week in June and have found the parking prices really high. Can anyone recommend a company that is close to Gatwick, serves the North Terminal and is reasonably priced and maybe gives discount if there are two cars? Any web addresses would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi,
My wife and I have an 11.5 hour layover in Gatwick on a Tuesday night from about midnight until 11:00 on the way from Prague to Los Angeles. Of course, we can get a hotel nearby, but we were thinking of using the time to spend some time in London or Brighton or elsewhere. I have been to London, but my wife has not, so she would like to see the sights of London (are they lit up overnight?). I have read that I can take the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station and maybe hire a cab. I also heard that Brighton is a good place to visit, however I am not sure that trains run there this late at night and I don't know how far it is from Gatwick and I don't know if there is anything to see there this late at night. I would also like to have a few drinks at a pub in either London or Brighton(if the pubs are open this late). The other option is to just go to a town that is right next to Gatwick and go to a pub there and see the sights in the early morning. Problem is we will have lots of luggage. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. |
