Lake District National Park Driving Holiday In the UK
Posted: Sat March 25, 2006 10:13 AM UTC
Hi all
My wife and I are in the process of planning a driving holiday around the UK this coming summer. Our itinerary, at the moment is to leave Sussex where we live and drive to Wales and the Snowdonia National Park, spending a few days touring around the park before driving on to the Lake District, where we will spend another few days, and then driving onto the Yorkshire Dales, where we will spend another few days, before heading south and home, a total of about 12 to 14 days.
My question is, ?if you have been to any of the above locations, which routes would you recommend that give the most spectacular views and are there any little villages that you thought were out of this world and well worth a visit?.
Thank you for any help.

Lake District National Park Recommendations
Posted: Fri July 15, 2005 08:07 PM UTC
We are wanting to go to the Lake District in the middle of August. Although we have narrowed our options down to Ambleside or Ullswater, we have no idea which of the two would be better for us to go to. We will be travelling with our 6-month old daughter and so we're looking for some nice easy to moderate walks that are do-able, considering we will be carrying our baby in a baby bjorn.

Other suggestions that may be even better than the ones I mentioned are of course very welcome. We will probably want to make use of youth hostels or B & B's.

Thanks!

Lake District National Park how busy is it in June ?
Posted: Mon June 6, 2005 10:21 PM UTC
Hi all

I am considering a trip to the lakes for about 3 nights from 20 June and was wondering how busy it is likely to be>

I went to snowdonia the same week 2 years ago and I often went 20 minutes plus on the road without seeing another car or human being (though obviously not that quiet in the main touristy parts). I'm guessing it's going to be busier than that but just how busy will it be in June ? Will it be much better than July/August - also how would Early/Mid Spetember comnpare ?

My plans b and C would be to return to Snowdonia or maybe look at the Yorkshire Dales.

Thanks

Lake District National Park Mountains
Posted: Tue May 24, 2005 02:05 PM UTC
I'm doing some walking in te Lake District soon, and would like to know which are the best ones to climb. I already plan on doing Scafell, but would like to know which other one is best. I have my eye on Helvellyn. This one needs to be an easire climb than Scafell, but not too easy.

Thanks.

Lake District National Park Keswick , Bowness, etc. B&B or self catered recommended?
Posted: Mon February 7, 2005 05:47 AM UTC
Two of us plan to take the train from London to the Lake district. We would like to stay a few nights somewhere with a lake view. We would prefer a B&B or self catered place. Can anyone recommend one that we can easily get to by taxi? Bowness looks like it is easy to get to, but various sites suggest it may be too crowded. We will be going the second week in May. It sounds like most of the places in Keswick do not have a lake view. If we can't find one, I saw the Derwentwater Hotel mentioned. Can you get to it easily with a taxi and get one in the mornings to return to town? Thanks for any info

Lake District National Park Cottages in the Lake district
Posted: Wed November 10, 2004 01:39 PM UTC
I am looking at spending a week in the Lakes at Easter. I would like to stay in a cottage if possible, but not sure which part of the Lakes, although Ambleside looks nice. Has anyone got any helpful tips on how/where is the best place to book them or any general information about the Ambleside area.

Lake District National Park Lake District Camping
Posted: Sun June 13, 2004 06:53 PM UTC
Hi,

I plan to visit the Lake District in August., and would like to do some hiking. I'm looking for a good camping site (to pitch a tent) which is:
1) close to Scafell Pike.
2) accessible by public transport.

Can you recommend any?
Do youth hostels allow tents on their grounds?

Thanks!

Lake District National Park Getting from Heathrow to the Lakes District?
Posted: Mon April 12, 2004 09:03 PM UTC
Greetings: We are planning to travel to the Lakes District in mid-July for a hiking and riding holiday. My family and I (parents+16 year old +12 year old) will be arriving at Heathrow from Boston, MA (USA) in the early evening (around 7:30pm). Is it reasonable to drive up to the Lakes District (Howtown near Lake Ullswater is our destination) all in one day? Would you recommend that we try driving an hour or so on the evening we arrive since it will feel as if it is the afternoon to us?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

1 Is 12- 19 june a crowded time?
2 How about the mosquitos?
3 We want to carry our luggage, stay in BBs, no longer distance than 10-17 km a day, and not walk on roads. Itīs that possible?

Lake District National Park Is a weekend possible?
Posted: Sun February 22, 2004 06:08 PM UTC
Hello,

I'm in the early stages of planning, which includes checking out some of your pages. So, with me having very little knowledge of the area, what could I do for a weekend? Any specific areas? I am in Edinburgh so I think about a 2hr train ride or so to get there.

Any rough itineraries you could suggest would be greatly appreciated. I'm the type of person who loves to wander around, whether it being through villages or hiking in the hills. Plus, I would be looking to stay in a hostel pretty central, due to my lack of time and on a budget.

I'm thinking of visiting during the springtime.

Cheers, Brandon

Lake District National Park Lake district Holiday
Posted: Tue July 29, 2003 03:52 PM UTC
I will be spending 10 days in the Lake district only. I am getting a number of people saying it is too many days to spend there, as there isn't that much to see.

Any experiences and suggestions from people who have been there, especially not for just a day visit, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lake District National Park Lake District - Ambleside
Posted: Sun October 6, 2002 09:56 PM UTC
Hi ya'll! I'm going to be in the Lake District in a couple of weeks and have been considering staying in Ambleside. I won't really be hiking a whole lot because I want to drive around and see as much of the area as possible (and there is that beer festival in Kendal....!) and want a "town" of some sort as opposed to a rural B&B. Is Ambleside the quaintest, most reasonable choice? If so, there are tons of B&B's there and choosing between them is difficult. Is Ambleside so small that location isn't a major consideration? Is Church Street an OK location, or is Compston better?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Also, we're on a majorly serious budget so any tips on where to find the cheapest meals or beers anywhere in the Lake District area would be greatly appreciated!
