Vintage shops? Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 11:11 PM UTC
Hi!
I've been shopping in Manchester a few times now and think it's absolutely brilliant. If I wasn't a Brummie... I'd move here ;-)
Just wondered - can anyone recommend any vintage or good independent shops around the city centre?
Thank you! :-)

Nightlife suggestions - Friday nights?! Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 11:09 PM UTC
Hi!
I'm coming to Manchester in a few weeks. I've done Canal St area many times and a couple of restaurants around the city centre - but we're wondering if anyone can suggest any great pubs, bars or clubs elsewhere, for a Friday night? In Birmingham, where I live, Friday nights can be a bit quiet; so ideally places that are popular and busy!
For clubbing, we like places that play chart, RnB, commercial dance, etc. Bars and pubs - any suggestions at all would be great!
Thank you very, very much!

Euro's - where can i spend them in Manchester??? (Coins) Posted: Tue July 28, 2009 06:43 PM UTC
Maybe post this also on general UK Forum and Misc Forum.
I have around 22 Euros and as i will not be going abroad for a while i want to spend them in uk as i cannot change them, and the 22 is in Coins.
I hear big stores in the UK like M & S and Seldfridges and WM Smith will accept them - but do i need to go to a big city like Manchester (ie - would they take them at other stores like Blackburn) and will they accept the coins.
I am sick of seeing the coins every time i am tidying my drawers.
Has anybody had any experience of spending Euro coins in uk?
Regards,
Lee
(Ps - every year i always managed to come back with money)

Accommodation Posted: Sat July 11, 2009 08:59 PM UTC
Hello,
I am flying to Manchester early next year to watch the LIVE Stictly Come Dancing.
http://www.strictlycomedancinglive.co.uk/default.asp?contentID=644
The show will take place at the "Manchester Evening News Arena". Could someone recommend some B&Bs which are within walking distance from this Arena. I don't have to worry much about transport after the show.
Thanks

Rail Questions Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 01:18 PM UTC
Hi
I want to buy a number of Rail Tickets to travel around England this week (I'm in Ireland now). If I buy a ticket online for (example)
Manchester to Sheffield at 2PM, (if I buy a 2PM ticket online, and I miss the 2PM train, can you use the ticket for the next train?)
Are the prices the same at the ticket office like they are online? (nationalrail.co.uk)
Thanks

Hi,
I'll be in Manchester on the 30th of april (Dutch Queen's Day) with about 30 students (Industrial Design, Delft, The Netherlands) And we're planning on celebrating. Is there a Dutch pub of some sorts, where we could have a beer and act silly in orange clothes?
Cheers,

April Bank Holiday Weekend - Canal Street? Posted: Mon March 23, 2009 12:20 AM UTC
I'm planning to come to Canal Street for the Bank Holiday...
The only problem is, I can only do Saturday and Sunday night, and wondered whether the Sunday would be too quiet for going out to bars and a club?
If so, I might come later in the year instead and do a Fri and Sat.
Any ideas?!
:-)

Hi Folks;
We're going to see Seasick Steve at the Apollo this Friday evening (23 January) - can anyone recommend a nice place for us to grab a bite to eat before the show? Preferably a bit "up-market" and not Chinese.

Organic shops in Manchester Posted: Sat December 13, 2008 06:07 PM UTC
Hi guys,
I am a vegetarian travelling to Manchester at the end of the year and would like to know where I can find organic shops in Manchester, in the centre of the city or near the centre. And I would like to find some shops offering organic cosmetics such as Lavera, Dr. Hauschka, Primavera Life, Logona etc. I know there are some other brands being sold in the UK then in other countries but any advice is welcomed. Thank you a lot.

Manchester Airport Security Posted: Fri September 12, 2008 11:11 PM UTC
Hi,
Not been to the airport since January but had heard that new measures are to be put in place.
Have there been any new security measures implemented such as biometric eye scanning, luggage checks immediatley on entry to the airport (i.e. at the entrance doors) and/or others?
Thanks

Craft shops in Manchester Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 12:52 PM UTC
A friend is visiting Manchester in a few days and I would like her to go to a craft shop for some 3d foam pads or grip pads of 1mm (1/8" thick). Can't find them here in Israel. I have found a shop called Fred Aldous Ltd. in Manchester which sells pkts of 400. Is there a shop that sells packets of say 1000-2000. (Of course I know she can buy me a few packets of 400's). I make decoupage greeting cards and these pads would be a great help. Any info will be much appreciated.

a choice to make Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 12:09 PM UTC
In 2 weeks time i will have a couple of hours to spend in Manchester - 10-12 on the Sunday morning.
I'm thinking of either visiting the Lowry gallery, or the city one.
I'll be staying in the Salford Quays area, so the Lowry will be handy but looks like the tram would get me to the centre very easily if I want.
Which would you choose and why?
Other suggestions welcome!

I'm planning to visit Manchester for the first time in July and want to know a couple things.
1) How can I get the cheapest train ticket (direct journey) from London to Manchester? Can I just go to the train station on the day to purchase them?
2) Can I make my base in Manchester and make day trips to the Lake District, Glasgow, etc?

hotel needed... Posted: Wed June 4, 2008 06:44 AM UTC
I'm looking for a hotel in the greater Manchester area for 1 night next month.
I arrive at the airport in the afternoon, and have to be at Haydock Park (off the M6) in the evening. Next day I have to be in Bradford and then travel back to Manchester airport.
I'll have a rented car and the obvious solution is a place close to the M6 or M62.
Important is that its clean & quiet. Don't mind a budget chain, but happy to pay more to be comfortable. Don't fancy an airport hotel or Manchester city centre.
Anyone know what the hotel at Old Trafford cricket ground is like, and if its convenient for the airport + motorway?

Is it advisable to buy the train tickets from Manchester to Liverpool in advance? Or can we wait and buy them at the train station? Travel can only be done on a Sunday (June).
Thanks.

Cheapest parking in Manchester near to MEN Arena Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
In reply to Gillybob (thanks by the way for your amazingly quick reply), yes I do need to travel by car.
Someone may also be able to tell me if the arena is within walking distance of the shopping/main area. By 'walking' distance I mean a sort of 10-15min max walk.
Thanks again for your help.

Cheapest parking in Manchester near to MEN Arena Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 01:17 PM UTC
I am trying to find the cheapest parking for around 10 hours on a week day (Friday) from about 12/1pm until 11pm at night, and within as close distance as possible to the MEN arena.
Can anyone help?
I believe that there is an NCP car park at the arena, but if my previous experiences of NCP are anything to go by they are usually far more expensive than others.
I don't know Manchester at all so any replies would be very helpful
Thanks
