Moving to Newcastle Posted: Thu May 4, 2006 10:17 AM UTC
Hi there I am really keen to learn more about Newcastle as I am keen to move there from New Zealand with my wife and 3 children next year. Are you able to help? I am particularly interested in cost of living and how much a couple should earn before tax to live in modest comfort.
So I am particularly interested in hearing from couples with 2 or more children.
We don't go out often and eat at home with self prepared food.
I am in Civil Engineering so any engineer's out there in the area I would love to hear from you too.
My email is hutchinsonwong@slingshot.co.nz

Weekend in Newcastle Posted: Thu May 4, 2006 09:13 AM UTC
Hello all,
Just a quick question: A group of us are planning on heading to newcastle for the stag party of a friend of mine. None of us have been there before, so i was hoping that we could get some suggestions on where to go. It'll be the usual type of thing, a few drinks, abit of a laugh and an opportunity to give him a good send off before his wedding in July.
Any ideas on where to go? Any pointers to take into account.
cheers,
Joe

Travel from London to Newcastle for football game Posted: Fri February 10, 2006 12:52 AM UTC
I'm planning to travel from London to Newcastle for a football game in May. I am not very sure what are the best methods still:-
1. Should I travel to Newcastle via train or flight? Is the airport near the cities? Or train is more convenient?
2. How many hours by train?
3. Should I stay in Newcastle overnight?
4. What times does the match end?
5. Should I travel back to London by train? Any train in the evenng / night?
Thanks a lot.

Newcastle Football Match Posted: Wed February 8, 2006 02:31 PM UTC
My boyfriend is a big fan of Alan Shearer & I'm planning for him to catch Newcastle last match of the season on 7.5.06, I think. I've contacted the football club here but the package includes hotel stay & tours which came up quite expensive. Where else can I get the tickets? Any discount?
Thanks.

HELP!!! Posted: Mon October 31, 2005 03:50 PM UTC
My new husband of 1 month left for Newcastle yesterday for his job. I will be coming over in about a month. I could use all the info you can help me with...weather, cost of living, banking, grocery stores, clothes to wear (I live in shorts and tank tops!), and any other info you can give me. As I have never been out of the US, this will be a huge adventure for me, and is causing me some stress. I have looked on the internet, but have not found it to be very helpful in what I am looking for. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Alien American Part 2 Posted: Wed August 10, 2005 08:31 PM UTC
Hello,
Thank you all for responding to my inquiry regarding my husband and I's possible relocation from the US to N-O-T. It was much easier to just post a this than to send an individual email to each of you. If you should have any other feedback about this part of England, I would love to hear it. Anyways, my husband will get to see it first hand as he leaves from Orlando, FL for his job interview this Monday. He is interviewing at the University of N-O-T for a lectureship position in the Marine Sciences College. Thus far, we have heard (even outside of this forum) very positive feedback about the area. But first things first...let my husband survive the interview process! :)
Thanks again for your advice!

Alien American Posted: Fri August 5, 2005 08:57 PM UTC
Hi,
My husband may be getting a job in Newcastle Upon Tyne. So we would be leaving the United States and beginning our new life abroad. Ok, it's scary, I'll admit, but exciting too. What advice, if any, would you give to those who are relocating there from the states? We love the great outdoors, so advice on what recreational activities (rock climbing, hiking, boating, etc.) exist would be most helpful and appreciated. Lastly, what are the general feelings, tendencies or trends toward religion and politics in this area? Thanks!

Thanks so much.

Living in Newcastle Posted: Tue August 2, 2005 03:50 AM UTC
Hi everyone!
I just got a job in Newcastle and my girlfriend and I are looking to rent a house or a flat in Newcastle. We would like to know what part of town is the best and what part of town to avoid. We have not decided yet if we want to live in the city center (maybe near the Univsersity as I will be working there)or in the suburbs so informations on both would be great! How much should we expect to pay? How is street parking in the city center? Thank you for your help!! :o)

Hello
I'm from France and I've spent a year nit far from Newcastle , in hartlepool.
I'm a student in English linguistics and have to work on the geordie accent .
This year I've not been able to get some recordings of young people speech.
I'm now asking someone living in newcastle and who knowS young people aged from 12 to 16 girls and Boys to make some recordings so I can analyse them.
It is urgent and I really need some help.
The schools I have contacted during the year told me that they wouldn't have time
And to achieve this work I really need a few recordings of 20 minutes each.
Can somebody help me ?

Newcastle Violence? Posted: Thu March 31, 2005 05:17 AM UTC
Hi,
I am a guy from Singapore and moving to Berlin.
But I am having second thoughts because of the language barrier and wondering if I should consider Leeds, Newcastle, or Edinburgh (even Manchester!).
I heard there's quite a bit of drunken violence in Newcastle at night, and was curious if I (as a visible foreigner) can expect any trouble?
Any thoughts on the quality of life in these cities would also be appreciated.

International House in Newcastle Posted: Mon February 21, 2005 11:13 AM UTC
Hi, I'm an italian girl and I'm going to improve my English by studying in Newcastle. I'm going to apply for International House, a language school in the city center, and I'm going to choose Charlotte House for the accomodation for 10 weeks. I think Newcastle is a very beautiful town, but if someone of you know it, I'd like to know if this school is as good as it looks like. If you have some detailed information about it, I would appreciate it!

New Years in Newcastle? Posted: Wed November 17, 2004 04:20 PM UTC
Hey there.
I'm thinking of spending New Years in Newcastle, can anyone give me a low down on what goes on. Also if anyone knows of some cheap accommodation.
I'm an Australian living in Dublin, and I'm struggling to find a few mates to come along, so I'm thinking about doing it solo. Will I stick out like a bit of a loser or are most people pretty friendly, and someone will take me under their wing?
Cheers, Bravo

Is there any special event in the week before Easter? Posted: Fri November 5, 2004 05:43 PM UTC
Hi, I'll be going to Yorkshire next March and plan to fly back out of Newcastle Airport, so I'm looking for hotels close to the train station. When I was checking availability , many websites said " fully booked already" or "no room available ". I'm going the week before Easter, leaving Good Friday. It's still quite a long time until March, so I'm really surprised so many hotels seem to be booked already. Is there any major event going on? Should I book now, as soon as I find a hotel or B&B? Thanks for your information. Christine
