Day trip Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 03:24 AM UTC
We were planning a day trip from Dublin in Novenmber - but I recently read that there was some problem with the rail tracks north of Dublin.
I was looking for advice from the VT fraternity on the following:
- Is a day enough to get the main sights in Belfast?
- Would it be better to take the bus or train from Dublin?
- Once in Belfast, would we need any bus/transport pass/tickets, or could we walk to most of the sights?
- Would it be OK to walk Falls/Shankill, or is cab the recommended mode?
Appreciate any inputs!

Best way to get from Belfast to Derry? Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 11:53 PM UTC
Hi,
In November, I will be taking a train from Dublin to Belfast on my way to Derry. What is the best means of transport from Belfast to Derry? Train or Bus?
If bus is the preferred means, how far is the main bus station in Belfast from the main train station (where the trains from Dublin go)?
Is it best to make advance reservations for trips from Belfast to Derry? Or is it better to wait until the day of travel to purchase a ticket?
Thanks,
Bill

What to ask? Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 09:13 PM UTC
I have no idea what to ask, but I might be visiting Belfast some time in August. All I know is that I'll be setting sail from Bergen, and if the wind permits, I might make it all the way to Belfast. I won't ask about the beer since I know I'll enjoy anything the tap will give me. I also know I will enjoy any type of Irish whisky....oppps sorry, whiskEy as it's bound to be good. And I don't need to ask about the people as I already have met a few of them here and there. The nature and countryside will also guaranteed be welcoming to the eye. So what is there left to ask???

Trips to Giant's Causeway.. Posted: Fri June 19, 2009 11:57 PM UTC
Hi,
Are there several daily return bus-runs to the causeway (from Belfast)?
Is the journey about a 2.5 hour single trip?
Many thanks

Belfast for 3 days Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 09:45 AM UTC
Hi All
we were thinking of spending 3 days in Northern Ireland in August
1st if all is it a worthwhile place to go to?
Is there much to do in and around Belfast, do we need a car when we are there?
We like cites like Prague to Paris would this compare in any way to those in terms of local culture and events?
Thanks

fish restaurants Posted: Wed April 8, 2009 07:31 PM UTC
I'm looking for a good fish (in sense of seafood - not fish & chips) restaurant in Belfast.
I spotted 2 in the city guide (Mourne Seafood Bar & Tedford's) but neither seem to be open on a Monday evening, and that's when I'll be there!
Any ideas anyone?

Cheap B&B near ferry Posted: Thu January 29, 2009 06:15 PM UTC
I'll need to spend a night in a B&B in Belfast before catching a ferry from the Victoria Terminal on West Bank Road. Any advice, please, on what area of the city to look in, or, better still, any recommendations? (I've lived and worked in cities with docks areas, and they aren't always the best areas to spend the night!)

Currency Exchange/Parking Posted: Tue December 16, 2008 01:31 PM UTC
Driving to Belfast from Dublin. I have two questions:
1) Where do I convert Euro to pounds? Should I just find the nearest bank?
2) Going to start at the Crown Bar and walk downtown. Where should I park my car?
Thanks,
Paul.

The Troubles in Belfast Posted: Sun August 3, 2008 05:02 PM UTC
Hello everybody,
I have been studying The Troubles in Belfast and as I will be staying in Belfast next week I would like to take a walk to see the separation barriers, murals and gates.
I am not interested in any kind of tourist tour, all I am looking for is the best walk from my hotel (Springfield Road) maybe for one or two hours.
I thought about going from Springfield Road to Falls Road and from there to
Short Strands. Would this be the best walk in order to see most of the barriers, gates and murals?
Thank you so much for your advice !

Happy Hour in Belfast Posted: Sun August 3, 2008 04:54 PM UTC
Hi everybody,
I will be in Belfast next Wednesday night and I am looking for a good pub which is not overprized, maybe with a happy hour.
Something traditional with many locals would be great.
I will arrive to Belfast quite late (10 pm) and I am staying at the
Farset International (Springfield Road).
It does not matter if the place is not too close to the hotel as I am thinking about going out for a drink straight from the City Airport.
Thank you for your advice!

Cricket in Belfast Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 08:58 AM UTC
Will be in Belfast this weekend and I see that Ireland are playing Leicestershire at Stormont on Sunday so though I might go and see the game. I don’t want to buy a ticket in advance in case the weather is bad or I decide I want to do something else. Does anyone know if the ground gets full for Ireland games or if tickets are likely to be available on the gate.
Thanks

Breakfast and Beer in Belfast Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 08:55 AM UTC
I’m arriving in Belfast on Saturday staying at the Days Hotel on Hope St near the Great Victoria St Bus Station. My experience of hotel breakfasts is that they are overpriced so was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent place for breakfast close by, may a little bakery, coffee shop or café.
Also looking for good places for a beer (not for breakfast obviously!). Of course I will be testing out the theory that the Guinness tastes even better in Ireland than it does in England but I also like a drop of real ale. Does anyone have any recommendations for bars selling real ale around the centre. I’ve done a little research and will of course be calling in at the Crown – as I suspect every tourist does.
Thanks

Belfast taxis Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 09:00 PM UTC
Next week I shall be passing through Belfast on my way to watch the North West 200, when I shall be based in Ballymena. I know that the train to Ballymena leaves from Belfast Central, and I know that my ferry - Norfolk Line - berths someway out of town. Being on foot, and not knowing the area, (and after 8 hours at sea, arriving in the early evening) I assume the easiest way to get from port to station is by taxi.
My question is, therefore, can I just grab one at a rank, and has anybody any idea of the likely fare?
(-With apologies if you’ve seen this in other forums!)
Thanks
