Isle of Skye i need advice re skye trip
Posted: Fri June 30, 2006 06:23 PM UTC
I am visiting Skye in August and am trying to plan the trip.

Question is about travelling around: if staying in sconcer, is it feasible to: travel to three chimneys one night for dinner? do day trip to Raasay with baby?

Is sconser a good base? Or should we stick to Portree? (We want somewhere with dramatic sea views, remote, rugged).

Is 3 days enough for an initial trip?

Glad of help, booking up now. Thanks

Isle of Skye Day Hike suggestions...
Posted: Wed July 13, 2005 10:47 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm going to be on Skye for two days with a laid back tour group, but would like to spend sometime hiking by myself. Any suggestion on not-terribly-difficult routes to follow (not a seasoned hiker) for a nice afternoon alone?

thanks!

Isle of Skye Coastal Walking in Trotternish
Posted: Thu April 28, 2005 04:15 AM UTC
Hello,

I am very interested in doing some coastal walking in Skye. I am going to be in Uig this summer. Is it possible to walk the coastline clockwise around Trotternish from Uig to Portree? I'd like to really hug the coast, keeping relatively close to it, and not travel too far inland.

If so, does anyone know how long this endeavour might take? And if there would be adequate hostels (or B & B's, if necessary) available on that route?

Thank you very much for any tips anyone may be able to offer!

Isle of Skye Beach accommodation??
Posted: Sat February 19, 2005 07:01 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

Okay, I realise that I should elaborate on this question. I'm looking for accommodation (B&B, guesthouse, maybe hotel - no hostel!) near a beach on Skye.

"Beach" as in "ocean beach" not "loch beach". I won't have a car, but I don't mind just taking walks around the area for a couple of days.

I've been considering Armadale, but I'm undecided, and I'd love your input. All the places I've been looking at so far seem to be somewhere near a loch, but I'd really love to stay by the sea.

Thanks so much :-))

Isle of Skye A quick dash to the islands!
Posted: Thu August 5, 2004 02:29 PM UTC
We are travelling to Edinburgh on Sunday to deliver props for my daughter's drama company which is performing at the Festival. After one night we will head off for Oban, then catch a ferry (buying a Hopscotch ticket) to Craignure and will drive to or near Tobermory for two nights.

We then plan to catch a ferry to Kilchoran, drive to Mallaig and stay there a night before catching a ferry to Skye where we will stay two nights.

Then it is off to visit relatives in Aboyne before returning to Edinburgh to see the daughter's show and also to celebrate her 21st birthday.

Does this sound a reasonable itinerary? And, yes we know hotel bookings may be a problem at this late date but we have booked the Edinburgh stays. Can anyone suggest good, comfortable hotels with excellent views for me (artist) and terrain for husband (a walker) in Oben, Mull, Mallaig and Skye?

Hey! Chance for a plug of daughter's show: CARABOO! by HENs at the CVenues Theatre 9 - 21 Aug. 11.15 am.

Isle of Skye Weekend Hiking: tours or otherwise
Posted: Fri April 23, 2004 12:14 PM UTC
Hello,

I would love to go to Skye, purely for the hiking opportunities, but can only manage a weekend at some point this spring/summer. I'd even consider if one started next weekend (May 1/2).

Any ideas of how best to do this? MacBackpackers have a 2-day hiking tour but only starting in June and the first weekend of every summer month. Other backpacker tours seem to drive around, and that's not what I want.

Anything to suggest? I'm based in Edinburgh, and on a budget.

Cheers in advance,
Brandon

Isle of Skye Accommodation Costs in Portree
Posted: Mon March 15, 2004 12:12 AM UTC
Does anyone know about how much we could expect to pay at a B&B in Portree (2 people for 2 nights--preferably ensuite)?

You see, our tour company makes it a policy to book accommodations for everyone on the tour of Skye. However, we're leaving in a few days for Ireland for the first half of our trip and won't be around to receive the email from the tour company advising us how much cash to bring for the B&B. I know there are hotels in Portree that accept credit cards, but this company apparently likes only to do business with B&Bs and so cannot guarantee that they can find one that takes credit cards.

So, can anyone give me an approximate range of what we can expect to pay? Or does it vary too much to really even guess at?

Thanks!
