Isle of Skye Living on the Isle of Skye
Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 06:22 PM UTC
Hi, we currently live in Spain and are looking to relocate to the Isle of Skye. Being out of the UK for 7 years we have no idea over the cost of living these days.
So we can make an informed decision, could someone please give me a rough idea of expenditure of things like council tax, heating, etc. Also, what are night storage heaters and how do they work? Is it like central heating?
For grocery shopping is there a Tescos in Portree for example. if so, is it reasonably priced.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
Also interested in a house swap if anyone living ther fancies living in a beautiful part of southern spain. (4 bed villa, pool, large gardens etc)

Posted: Mon September 28, 2009 10:53 PM UTC
Hello. I'm looking for a place to stay in Portree, perhaps a B&B or Hotel, that is centrally located, near some pubs and restaurants. Most places that i've found, just look really run-down and "tired".

some places im considering:

Peinmore House
Dunsgiath Apts
Rosedale Hotel
The Pink Guest House
Bosville

Any help would be great

thanks so much

Isle of Skye Wild Camping
Posted: Fri September 18, 2009 12:42 AM UTC
Hi there,

My mate and I are planning on a 7 days wild camping trip around the island but we do not know where to start. All we know is that we are catching an overnight bus from London to Glasglow. We have no idea what to plan next. We will not be hiring the car and thus the public transportation seems to be the only choice. Our plan is to just hike around the island and if we find somewhere we like, we will just camp and stay for the night. Any comments?

Since both of us are photographers, we are also interested in looking at sites with stunning views. Can you guys recommend us a route and also the best scenery you've every caught your eyes on in Isle of Skye?

Thanks lots.

Isle of Skye Laundromats/Laundry Services
Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 02:45 PM UTC
My partner and I will be spending part of our holiday on the Isle of Skye. We have planned all the fun things to do and now we are looking to take care of the everyday things. My question is, are there any laundromats on the island? I am sure there must be but I am unable to find them searching the net.

Isle of Skye Driving a Car from Edinburgh to Inverness->Isle of Skype->Glasgow within 3 days
Posted: Fri May 8, 2009 08:38 AM UTC
We (7 persons) plan to drive VAN from Edinburgh to Inverness, Isle of Skype and stop at glasgow within 3 days. We want to stop 1st night at Inverness. For the 2nd night we perfer portree but it seems too far for us to drive from portree to glasgow within one days so it should be Fort William. After reading from many blogs, for 3 days it seems to short for our plan so Please give any advices the route to drive, must see or don't miss and stop (highlight) and the timeline for us to follow. If it is possible, we need for Inverness and Glasgow also. Thank you very much in advance.

Isle of Skye Unsure about January travel
Posted: Wed March 4, 2009 06:25 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm really keen on organising a little weekend trip to Skye for my partner's birthday, but it's in early-mid Jan. I'm not bothered at all about bad weather while we're there, but I only have a small car so I'm concerned about what the driving conditions might be like getting there and back at that time of year. Can anyone put my mind at rest, or should I arrange the trip for another time? I'm thinking of using the bridge and heading to Portree.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Isle of Skye Tour on Skye?
Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 12:40 AM UTC
Hi all

I am planning a tour of Scotland and want to go to Isle of Skye

I am considering taking the scenic West Highland Railway from Glasgow to Mallaig and then going Skye via ferry.

Are there guided group tours on Skye itself?
From what I see on the internet,I think it would be too expensive to pay for a personal one-to-one guide.

Otherwise I will just catch one of the Skye group tours-Haggis or Rabbies that departs from Edinburgh.(The disadvantage for this is that I won't get to take the scenic Railway)

Thanks!

Isle of Skye Edinburgh to Isle of Skye
Posted: Sat February 21, 2009 06:41 PM UTC
I'm going on a Scotland tour that starts in Edinburgh and would like to visit the Isle of Skye but it is not part of the tour. If I fly into Edinburgh 2 days prior to the tour would that give me enough time to get up to Skye and back to Edinburgh to meet up with the tour? Does anyone know of any 1 or 2 day Skye tours from Edinburgh? Or even a transportation option? I'm also thinging of flying into Glasgow. Thanks a million in advance!

Hi there,
Well like the title says- does anybody know if there is a bus service between Staffin and Uig, in the Trotternish Peninsula? Or does the bus just travel around the coast via Flodigarry?
Thanks in advance :-)

Isle of Skye Travel to Isle of Skye on the late May long weekend
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 07:43 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

Can somebody help me as I'm planning to travel to Isle of Skye at the end of May long weekend (24th - 26th May). It's going to be 3 day solid travel for 4 people and I'm currently living in London.

My plan is to take a flight from London to Inverness (guess that's the nearest airport to Isle of Skye?), then hire a car or take local transports to Isle of Skye. My schedule route will be by-pass A87 via Skye Bridge, then heading to Portree (maybe 1st night staying at Portree). The next destination will be travel via A87 up further north to Uig, as I want to visit "Skye Museum of Island Life" via A855, then visit Staffin Bay and Kilt Rock Waterfall in heading back down to Portree. Not sure where should I stay for the 2nd night, any suggestions?

Is it expensive to hire a cor for 3 days and what about the accomodations in Isle of Skye? Is there going to be enoughtime for me to do this route in 3 days time.

Please advise and thanks so much for your help.

Cheers,
Viv

Isle of Skye Isle of Skye-5 days, where to go/stay??
Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 09:21 AM UTC
Hi there,
I will be in Isle of Skye for about 5 days in June.
I will be arriving in Uig via the ferry from Tarbert in Outer Hebrides.
Can anybody suggest an itinerary from there?
I have no vehicle, so I will be relying on public transport and maybe hitching if I get stuck somewhere.
I was thinking of staying 1 night in Uig, (Is it worthwhile?) I thought maybe it would be a good base. Or would heading to Portree straight away be a better option (transport links, walks, photography etc)?
Basically I am looking for beautiful places to photograph, scenic walks/hikes to go on, nice beaches, pretty villages etc etc.
Does anyone know of a bus service the goes around the Trottinish peninsula? Or any day tours?
Any help much appreciated :-)

Isle of Skye Visiting Isle of skye in February
Posted: Sat December 29, 2007 12:57 PM UTC
Howdy all,

My mother and her sister are visiting from Oz in February and are really keen to see the Isle of Skye. I;ve been once before but it was in summer. If we catch the train up to Mallaig, and the ferry across, how do you suggest we proceed with transport? I was thinking of hiring a car but I'm nervous about driving if the roads are going to be icy or covered in snow. If we don't hire a car, is there any other frequent and reliable transport we could use to get around?????

Isle of Skye Visiting Skye...where is best to stay, getting around
Posted: Mon February 26, 2007 04:15 PM UTC
I am travelling with 3 people in June and was planning to stay in Mallaig for 2 nights. I was going to use one day to travel around Mallaig and another day to travel around Skye.

Are the sights around Mallaig worth seeing compared to Skye?

Is Mallaig the quaint fishing town it is advestised to be and is it worth staying there opposed to Skye?

Are there car rentals in Mallaig or just on Skye? Is there a price difference or is 35 Pounds an expected amount?
