| Gloucestershire | transportation in the cotswolds Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 09:17 PM UTC
Hi all,
I will be visiting a cousin going to school at Oxford. I was wanting to take a few days and visit the cotswolds and the small villages... I will not have a car, but could get one? What does everybody recommend.. Can public transportation get you everywhere you need in the small villages... Are you stuck after 5 p.m. in some of the villages... Does anybody have a recommendation as to which town is a good basecamp to explore the other towns? I see that Gloucester and Cheltenham may be the bigger cities.. Can I get to the other towns from here? I would prefer not to drive.. Thanks for the information |

| Gloucester | Getting to Gloucester and Oxford from London Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 03:37 AM UTC
Hi. I'll be arriving in London on 29 April 2007 but I'd also like to see Gloucester and Oxford. I have time from 2 May - 6 May before I have to be in London again to fly to Frankfurt on 7 May.
Would really appreciate anyone's help in answering the following questions: (1) What is the cheapest way to get to and from Oxford and Gloucester; and how much do I have to pay? (2) How much time will I need to see Oxford and Gloucester? (3) Trains and buses, how much travelling time will they need? Thanks and regards, AV |

| Cheltenham | car hire in london vs train to Cheltenham Posted: Sat October 28, 2006 07:41 PM UTC
We are staying a few days in London then on to Cheltenham. My question is: Would it be easier to take the train from London and then hire a car in Cheltenham or rent a car in London and just drive to Cheltenham? Can you hire a car at the Cheltenham train station?

| Gloucestershire | What's interesting/ great about the area? Posted: Thu September 29, 2005 10:36 PM UTC
I'm considering a commitment that would mean living for at least 2 years in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, U.K. My involvement will include organic horticulture, nature, animals and wildlife, arts and crafts, all which I love. What else is going on in the region that would round out life for a woman that doesn't drink, loves life, learning, and communicating with interesting, progressive and creative people?

| Gloucestershire | Train from Edinburgh to the Cotswolds Posted: Wed July 20, 2005 05:12 PM UTC
Hello all, I am a Chef traveling with my wife starting on Sept 11 landing in London after a week in Venice and Rome.WE are buying a train/car pass that gives you 3 days train and 2 days car.We will be taking the train from London to Edinburgh Scotland on Sunday. We will try see as much of Edinburgh as we can and then take the train back down to the Cotswolts area.My question is (what is the best stop to take to rent a car for 2 days to drive around the small towns in the Cotswolts).I am looking for the easiest access to get out of that town because I am not used to driving in the UK and don't want to kill anyone in the process. The towns I see on the main train line that look the closest are Oxford,Birmingham, and so on.Does anyone have an Idea of the easiest town to get this done in and then take the car back in two days.I do have the option of picking up the car in one city and dropping it off in another city........MY second question.......If anyone has a Hotel that stands out in there mind of a special place please share your thoughts with me.I also look for either small Chef owned restaurants or Mom and pop places that have great homemade food.Plese let me know what made your special weekend a special one and maybe we can share a glass of wine and break bread when I travel thru your area.....take care...Chef Bill

| Gloucestershire | The Cotswolds Posted: Tue December 7, 2004 01:29 AM UTC
Hello. I am planning a holiday in England next May which will include a 3 day visit to the Cotswolds. I am having trouble deciding which would be the best town to stay in. I will be hiring a car to get around to the villages. My list is down to Evesham and Cheltenham. Which of these would be the most accessible to villages such as Broadway, the Slaughters, Bourton on the Water etc. I don't intend travelling too far south. Any other suggestions will be gladly received.
Thank you and cheers................Louise |

| Gloucestershire | Needing advise on the Cotswolds Posted: Sun August 15, 2004 11:28 AM UTC
Hi
I am planning a trip to England and Scotland next year. I am travelling from Australia and need all the help I can get. Part of my itinery includes the Cotswolds and thought perhaps Broadway would be a good place to stay. I will arrange a hire car but will only be able to stay for 2 days. Can anyone suggest the best places to visit in such a short time. I really want to see the real Cotswold sights [ villages, farms countryside etc.] Is it difficult to drive around the area. Not sure if I should risk it and drive on to my next stop which will be in Kent or take a train [ about how long would it take for both?] I'd love to drive as I want to see as much of the countryside as I can but need to be sensible as I will be on my own. Any advise will be gratefully received. Any other tips will also be appreciated. Cheers Louise |

| Gloucestershire | getting around the cotswolds Posted: Wed August 4, 2004 01:24 AM UTC
Hi. I'm trying to arrange a three day trip out of London and am thinking of going to Bath and Stonehenge and then into the Cotswolds.
I have two questions - do you think three days is long enough to enjoy Bath and the Cotswolds (we'll probably spend a day around Bath and Stonehenge and then two days in the Cotswolds). And secondly, as far as I can tell National Express will take us to the eastern towns like Moreton-in-Marsh and Bourton-on-the-Water. How do we get to the towns along B4632 like Chipping Campden and Snowshill Manor? We don't have a car and we can't afford to rent one. I would like to do some walking and cycling in the area but don't really want to bike from Stow-on-the-Wold to Broadway for instance. Any suggestions? |

| Broadway | B&B on High Street in Broadway Posted: Sun September 28, 2003 04:28 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I'm considering where to stay for a two-night visit in Broadway in the Cotswolds next May. I'd like someplace rustic and "homey," but right in town. Has anyone stayed at the Olive Branch on High Street? It looks great from the website (www.theolivebranch-broadway.com), but I'd like a VT opinion. :) Thanks! |

| Stow on the Wold | New to the area Posted: Wed February 5, 2003 10:34 PM UTC
Hi All!
I am coming to England in April to hopefully stay for about a year. I have traveled to the UK about 6 times in the last two years but it has been mostly for business. I absolutely fell in love with the Cotswalds and West Midlands (and London as well, but definitely can't afford it). Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can go about finding a job in these areas, being a foreigner, sufficient enough to pay for room and board? I want to get out of the rat race and do something where I get to interact with people more and have enough free time to explore. I'm pretty much up for anything. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. As info., I am 32 years old and have 11 years of international business experience ... but am willing to be a waitress if I can experience England for awhile. Thank you for your help! Cheers! Camille P.S. If you know of any VT groups that get together in this area, please let me know. I am looking forward to making new friends when I arrive! |
