Food Posted: Tue October 20, 2009 08:58 PM UTC
Hi
My wife and I are in York for the weekend of October 30th for two nights.
We like nice, fresh food - possibly african cuisine or very traditional indian cuisine, or anything slightly out of the norm. We are also big fans of seafood.
With this in mind can anybody please recommend any nice places to eat?
Apart from the usual, can anybody recommend anything exciting to do/see over this weekend?
many thanks

Help Needed Posted: Thu October 15, 2009 04:56 PM UTC
Looking to book a Cabin/Lodge for myself and my wife for our first anniversaty in the north of England,
Basically my wife has recently lost her father, and I was looking to take her away for a couple of nights, somewhere we could relax enjoy a nice walk, and also somewhere we could slip into the hot tub and enjoy a celebratory bottle of bubbly for our first anniversary and for my wife to let loose given her torrid year.
However I booked Yellowtop country park £200 for 2 nights, including Hot Tub, however I have received an email following my booking and I wondered if anybody else thought it was a bit harsh, and would you cancel as the first questions...
Hi,
It is a out door hot tub, No shelter.
The invoice is due now, If not is not paid by Saturday we will cancell your booking, Thank you.
Regards
Yellowtop on behalf of Paula.
Also as a fallback does anybody know of any other places as similair, as it sounds sad but given the climate, Im on a budget and need to watch the pennys,,, so need to spend probably a maximum of £200 as have £150 aside for beuty treatment and more on top for a couple of nights out for dinner etc...
Help please, firstly to let me know if you think I should have cancelled the booking based on the fact I only asked her when the payment was due and did the hot tub have a cover incase it rained.

Senior Citizens Visit to York Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 12:13 PM UTC
Old married couple spending three days this month in York. Years since we were there. Do the local buses have such a thing as day ticket tariffs because our Scottish free passes don't work in England ? Where are the most interesting places that local buses journey to ? Thanks all

Starting to Plan for the Viking Fest Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 10:09 PM UTC
I have been tasked to plan a multi-family (6-10) trip to the spring Viking Fest in York.
#1 Housing: Is there any single nice facility that will handle us all w/o breaking the budget or is there a street (or area) with a sufficient cluster of close establishments that you would recommend. (weekend apartments would be most excellent)
#2 Pubs and restaurants where we can meet up or suggested rally points that will not be hard to find.
#3 What "must do" activities will require for us to purchase or reserve ahead of time?
#4 Overall suggested itinerary for the weekend.
Everything I hear suggests that it is a great event and am very excited about this visit to York.
Thanks in advance

Free (Cheap) and tranquil places to relax in York this friday Posted: Wed July 22, 2009 08:41 AM UTC
HI all
I will be in York for the first time for just a day and would like to know places to sit and chill as I am 6 months preggers and will be kicked out of hotel in morning and not moving on til evening.
I would particulary like to know about green spaces, or watery spaces to chill, other types of chill out also good to know e.g. any good organic or veggie cafes, good people-watching cafes or places you can sit a while without pressure to move on as soon as you finish your drink/food?
Also any modern art museum in York?
many thanks

Our vacation to England Winter 2010 Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 11:16 PM UTC
Greetings friends. My wife and I will be vacationing in England in February 2010. We will be spending a week in York for the Viking Festival preceded by 4 days in London with a week between York and return flight to USA. We would love to hear some suggestions as to things to do, places to visit ( including possible overnight accommodations) both during the Viking Festival and the following week. My concerns during preliminary research have been weather, bus and train transport during the winter, driving conditions vis a vis american southerners if we should be renting a vehicle. There seems to be no end to the possibilities especially factoring Northumberland. We have already booked our accommodation for York but would like input on day trips from York and later some other ideas that would be seasonably doable. Thanks in advance for any advice. Hope to be able to reciprocate some day for any of you visiting USA.

Boating Holiday starting in York Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 12:31 PM UTC
Hello All,
I was hoping to rent a boat this summer for a week and cruise around some canal, rivers etc... and since I had never been to York I was thinking that might be an interesting place to start.
I was wondering if a) is this practical i.e. does York have river/canals suitable for exploring b) anyone know of a marina that rents boats - Cruisers NOT Narrow boats
If not York can anyone recommend a good area for that. I have already done the Thames/Oxford and I didn't think the Norfolk Narrows would have much to offer in terms of interesting places to stop
Thanks Much
Steve

Yorkshire Dales National Park Posted: Sat December 13, 2008 10:12 PM UTC
I am gonna travel round Yorkshire area at the end of the year and I am thinking about exploring the Yorkshire D.N.Park. Never been to that area (moreover in the winter)...is it a good idea to explore it in December/January? Taking into account the weather etc. Thank you. Or what places do u advise to see in that area? Towns, nature etc. Love it.

Ghost Walks Posted: Thu October 16, 2008 02:07 AM UTC
I am going to be in York the first week of November and I was wondering about the various ghost walks. There are quite a few to chose from and, of course, they all claim to be the best. Does anyone have any thoughts on which is the best or which I should definitely avoid? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nice luxurious restaurant?? Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 09:53 AM UTC
Hello!
I'm coming to York for a long weekend on the 26th of September. I am taking a friend to York for the first time. I have been several times myself as i am from Leeds.
It's his birthday, so i am wanting to take him out on a Sunday, i know not all restaurants are open on this day.
Also, him being Spanish. It would be nice for him to go to a Spanish Tapas. Is there any classy Tapas that will be open on a Sunday evening?
Thanks in advance!

Durham - Whitby - York travel doubt Posted: Mon October 1, 2007 12:17 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm getting crazy with Traveline Journey Planner trying to plan the best and easier way to travel between Durham, Whitby and York.
The trip will be on a late November weekend. Me and my boyfriend we'll arrive on Saturday evening at Newcastle airport. The plan is to spend the night in Durham, a quick tour of the town on Sunday morning and then moving to Whitby and York (spending one night in each place) before catching the flight back at Newcastle airport on Tuesday evening.
The problem is the Durham - Whitby - York part of the journey.
I can't figure out if it's better to travel from Durham to York by train and then take the Yorkshire Coastliner bus to Whitby
or
take the bus from Durham to Middlesbrough and then another bus to Whitby (this second options would be on a Sunday, so no way to take the Esk valley train!).
Both options seem to take a long journey time, like spending around 3 hours on the means of transports...should we rent a car instead? I have no idea!
Thanks in advance!

Romantic quiet restaurant Posted: Wed June 27, 2007 12:41 PM UTC
Hello
We are going to York for a night away from the kids in July. Have got the hotel sorted but thought it would be nice to step out to a restaurant in the centre for a lovely quiet romantic meal. This is the first time in 4 years we have been away for a night so don't want to get it wrong. What are your tips. We eat anything, the ambience is the more important thing! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yorkshire coast Posted: Fri June 15, 2007 08:38 AM UTC
I've been to York lots of times and now want to see something of the Yorkshire coast other than Whitby, Scarborough, and Ron Hoods Bay.
I know there's bus service to Bridlington but wonder if there is another spot that might be better to visit. Any suggestions for the best way to get to the coast and the best seaside place to visit?
Thanks very much.

York/Wakefield/Leeds/Manchester Airport Posted: Sat May 19, 2007 09:46 PM UTC
My husband and I will be arriving in York on July 11th and departing for the US on July 14th. During the three days we have, we'd like to see some of the high spots in York, go to Wakefield (husband's ancestor's roots), Nottingham, Leeds, Batley and then arrive late in Manchester. We need suggestions if we should find one central place to stay for the nights of the 11th and 12th or if we should find two different places. We're planning on staying close to the Manchester Airport on the 13th. Also, should we hire a car or take the bus to get around? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.
