Southampton BUS FROM SOUTHAMPTON TO HEATHROW
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 06:12 PM UTC
I understand that there is a taxi ride from the cruise terminal at Southampton to the National Express bus station.

Please inform me the name of the bus station that I should ask the taxi driver to take us to. Also, how much does the taxi drive cost?

Are there are any other private bus companies operating from the cruise terminal or the bus station, and are tickets available when we arrive?

Thanks for the help.

Hampshire Premier Travel Inn Basingstoke - Central or South?
Posted: Mon September 3, 2007 01:48 PM UTC
Hi - can't decide which Travel Inn would be best. Can any Basingstoke residents advise?

Basingstoke Central, Basingstoke Leisure Park, Worting Road
Basingstoke South, North Waltham

Would prefer a quieter place (Central is in a leisure centre, and South is beside motorway so neither will be totally quiet). We are doing things in East Oakley so want easiness of getting around by car. Maybe South is less stressful than Central with regards to negotiating traffic? Really not bothered about being close to city centre.

Or is it "six and two threes"?
Thanks!

Southampton Transport from Southampton
Posted: Sat August 25, 2007 04:06 PM UTC
I'm going to be very lazy and post this question for a friend, rather than doing research.

What are the cheapest and fastest ways to get from Southampton (cruise termination) to Heathrow (one cheapest, one fastest)?

What are the cheapest and fastest ways to get from Southampton to Stansted?

Thanks experts!

Hi, does anybody know how to get from Southampton Central train station to the Mayflower Cruise Terminal? Is it walkable? Is there a bus courtesy bus service? There is also a train station called 'Southampton Town Quay'. Would that be a better option? Thanks for your help.

Hampshire Help with identifying our route south from Marlborough
Posted: Mon March 13, 2006 02:28 PM UTC
Hello again! Having been denied river access to Salisbury / Stonehenge / Avebury ;) we enjoyed all those places by car equipped with GPS directions. Since the GPS system took precedence over my carefully researched route, I have now lost track of our return route from Avebury, and am hoping that someone can help me identify it.

Starting from Chichester we had driven to Stonehenge via Portsmouth and up through part of the New Forest into Salisbury, then onto the motorway briefly to reach Stonehenge. We then reached Avebury via Devizes. On the return, we came through Marlborough and then headed south. The gasoline strikes (threats) were on and we filled up wherever we could - our last known stop (and petrol receipt) being Collingbourne Ducis north-west of Andover. At this point I have no idea which route we drove south to reach Portsmouth - but we passed through no more large cities. I believe we cut straight south in the area between Winchester and Salisbury. The road eventually climbed a steepish ridge - it was a very pretty drive along a ridge with the trees forming a canopy over the road - so much so that we filmed that part of the drive. Our host said something about this road being formerly unpassable due to a state of disrepair. It is also possible that the army has a range near this area and/or that it is a natural preserve. We joined the motorway well west of Portsmouth and then headed back to Chichester.

Has anyone an idea of the pretty-drive route we may have taken? The pavement was very well-maintained. Our host has not been forthcoming with the GPS record - maybe because he knows how miffed I was at having technology supercede my off-the-beaten-path route? ;) However I must admit that the GPS found us a lovely drive this time.

Thanks again - this will help me write my travelogue!

Lisa

I have been looking at self catering holiday lets but they are all so expensive ! Around £2000 for the time we need it ! Framing in Saudi is not big money and UK is so expensive ! Hampshire Who 'owns' the River Avon??
Posted: Wed July 13, 2005 06:17 AM UTC
I will be staying near Portsmouth in September. My friend has a powerboat and I have a silly idea to cruise up the river to Salisbury. However, though I can't imagine why, access is restricted to anglers who pay fees to fish the tidal parts of the water, as well as by landowners and various municipal authorities. Is this true? I've discovered this through a kayaker's guide: http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/avon.htm I don't think I know of any river here in Canada that is off-limits...

Thanks.. I guess we'll just have to drive...

Oh...also... Stonehenge (wiltshire) is no longer directly accessible to the public right? Thought I saw something on TV about that...my husband says this is not so, and one can walk among the stones.

Hampshire South Downs - horseback riding
Posted: Wed May 4, 2005 10:43 PM UTC
I read in a magazine about South Downs and how you can horseback ride, walk, or bike down the 100-mile stretch from Beachy Head to Hampshire. I'll be in England in a couple weeks and my friend and I would love to horseback ride through part of the stretch, but I've been having trouble finding info about how and where to do this.

We will have a BritRail pass but no access to a car, so hopefully there is somewhere along the stretch that we can take the train to and rent horses for a few hours.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know the best place to do this?

Thanks!
