How to tour around the island of Marinduque? Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 01:32 AM UTC
To those who have been or are from Marinduque. Could you recommend on how we can tour around the island? Do we rent a jeep or a cab? I would like to do the caving experience in Bathala caves as well. Where is the best place to stay in Marinduque in terms of location and affordability.
any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks very much

White Cloud Stream Scenic Area question Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 08:31 PM UTC
I've heard that this 'newly'-developed area is quite incredible to view. If we stay at the Beihai Hotel, and begin our descent after sunrise, is it much of a detour to take this path before doubling-back to go down to the Yuping cablecar? I heard there are some lovely fairy bridges and other interesting sites along this route, but we only wanted to go as far as the bridge (is there more than one?) and then go back to the western steps to continue going down.

Guide for Lhasa? Etc. Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 02:46 PM UTC
We're planning a trip to Lhasa (via train from Beijing- Xining - Lhasa), and were thinking that to save money, we could find a travel agent willing to get us the train tickets and travel permits, but hire our own guide just for a couple of days, staying without a guide in Lhasa itself. Does anyone know if this is feasible? Is it legal to travel in Lhasa city without a guide?
On a side note, Any hotel rec's for Lhasa, Xining, Chengdu, Dunhuang, or LanZhou? We've got too many places we'd like to visit! Trying to decide which are the must-see, kid-friendly places in this part of the country (Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, & Tibet). Many thanks for any advice you can give us. Have a great day!!

Best beach in Perhentian Besar Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 01:34 PM UTC
Hello,
What's the best beach in Perhentian Besar?
Teluk Dalam on the East side? Or the beach on the West side where Perhentian Island Resort is? Southwest around Tuna Bay Resort?
Considering the landscape, water quality, number of people/resorts around...
Thsnk you so much for your opinion!

Monday night in Manila Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 01:30 PM UTC
Hey all,
What's the nightlife like in Manila on weekdays? Will the bars and clubs still be buzzing on a Monday night?
My impression is that Manila is pretty happening 24-7 - would that be a fair assumption?
I'm arriving with some friends Monday evening and we have one night to spend in Manila and would really like to have a good night out before we retire to the peace and quiet of Palawan. Can anyone recommend a nice place to have a good Filipino dinner and some places to go out afterwards? We're probably staying in the Malate area - would this be the best choice for a one night stay?
Thanks for your help - can't wait to get over there!

Shenzhen clothing prices Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 12:22 PM UTC
Hi,
We've got a stop-over in HK on the first leg our round the world trip and were considering going into Shenzhen for a day to buy clothes for the trip. Can anyone please give me an idea of prices for some clothing, so that we can work out whether its worth our time and money with visas and travel from HK? We were thinking of buying hiking jackets, pants and shoes as well as tshirts etc (Columbia, North face etc).
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hostels in Kathmandu Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 12:00 PM UTC
I am travelling alone to Nepal in september/oktober, on a low budget. I think it is fun to meet other travellers along the road. Does anyone here know of a hostel in Kathmandu where it is easy to meet other backpackers?
Also, I would like to do a trek, but I have almost no experience. I am however in normal physical shape. Does anyone have a recommadation for a trek that might be right for a beginner like me?

Help with hotel recommendation Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 11:46 AM UTC
Hi there,
We are two families that are planning a trip to Koh Samui in October and we’re considering staying at Kalara Gardens at Bang Por. I couldn’t find any information about it here on VT (amazing I know!!) so I’m wondering if anyone of you VT’ers has heard of it?
The suggestions we have so far are:
Kalara Garden
Koh Samui Resort
Coconut-Tropicana
Many thanks!

Huangshan and Guilin and Yangshuo Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 11:03 AM UTC
I just need a general idea on my future Huangshan-Guilin & Yangshuo trip.
How long is the estimated days it would take? I'll be arriving first in Shanghai (I'll be coming from Philippines, and tickets are cheaper to shanghai). Will 10 days be enough(Including the travel from one city to another)?
I think 2 days in huangshan will be enough. so maybe 8 days in huangshan and yangshuo? Or is it too much?
I don't want a fast-paced travel, maybe just medium-paced (if there's such thing).
Thanks!

Indonesia Trip Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 09:48 AM UTC
Hello fellow touists and backpackers :)
Im going to indonesia in august for a month.
So the question is where to go and visit. Im planning to go to Kei Kecil for 5-6 days and relax, i ve been reading that Pasir Panjang is an amazing beach, its also quiet with no crowds and cheap too.
Is it really like this? and then if i go to Kei Kecil is it easy to continue to an interesting Route?
Or is it better to visit Gili Islands and then continue from there...?
Anyway all Im trying to say, is that i want to be away (as much as is possible) from crowds of tourists and Beli :) I want to see the amazing jusngle, the most beautiful beaches and its hard to find them in a country with 18.000 islands whick all looks amazing.
I would be gratefull for any tips.
Thank you very much for your time...

Extensive building work on the Bund Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 09:39 AM UTC
I am led to believe (via another forumite who posted this info as a warning and then it magically disappeared!) that at present the Bund area in Shanghai is undergoing major renovation work. I believe this is in anticipation of the Shanghai Expo.
Does anyone know when the Shanghai expo is on?
And How long this work is likely to go on for?
And will it (hopefully) be finished by September?
The work is apparently centred around the Bund, The Peace Hotel and interferes greatly with any photo opportunities in that area, especially over the river to Pudong.
Ellyse, I am sure you know the answer to this one! Or perhaps someone else out there who lives in Shanghai.
PS A warning tip with photos can be found in the Shanghai page of this person, please email me if you want details.

General tips Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 06:35 AM UTC
Hello everyone. My wife and I (mid 40's, fit and active) are travelling through to Europe and stopping over in Hong Kong for three nights around the 20th to 23rd August. I like boats she likes shopping. Could anyone recommend a nice hotel in the 600 to 800HKD region, close to transport and whats the best way to get there from the airport. (Would love a harbour view but understand if this is not possible for the price) While we are there we would like to do some tourist things like a night dinner cruise on the harbour (any recommendations). Are there any outlet shopping areas for clothing. Wife is an Australian size 12 in clothes and a EUR 43 in shoes and we have found in the past that it is difficult to get these sizes in asian countries.
What else would you recommend for us to do while we are visiting?

Travel Adventure in Bangkok and Pattaya Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 09:40 PM UTC
My friends and I are planning on a trip to Bangkok by September of October of this year. But we haven't picked our hotel yet and the places where we would wanna go. But one thing for sure is, we'd like to go to pattaya and visit nongnuch and Mini Siam.
Can you please help find a secure, cheap, and clean accommodation. Preferrably close to MBK chatuchak and other shopping areas in bangkok.
In addition, can you please give me an option on where or how we can go to Pattay without costing us that much.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

confused... Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 04:56 PM UTC
Hi.
I will be traveling to Sapporo in December and have come up with a list of places to go:
- Otaru
- Sapporo Beer Garden
- Ishyiy Chocolate Factory
- Sapporo Central Wholesale Market
- Old Hokkaido Govt Building
- Clock Tower
- Sapporo Brewery
- Historical Village
- Odori Park
- Genghis Khan
- Susukino
My problem is I don't know where exactly these places are and have problem grouping them according to convenience in movement. e.g. I should visit which places at the same time because they are within the same region etc...
Also, are there anymore must-go places that I should include?
Can someone help? Thanks!

Singapore Shopping Expert who knows Far East Plaza shops well! Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 04:08 PM UTC
Hi,
I just left the Far East Plaza, saw the greatest shop with a hat I am trying to locate...can anyone tell me what the name of this clothing shop is?
It was a shop that had a hat rack inside at the entrance in the middle dividing the shop into two sides. Clothes were hanging on the right hand side.
The hat was a wool fedora style in black and another one in olive green...I believe it was a local hat brand. I am trying to find that hat. It had 3 types of patches zig zag stitched on.
The brand sounded something like peoplerevolution or something along those lines.
Anyone know of this local Singapore brand?
I know this may seem like a very strange question but, I would love to find that hat.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you so much in advance.

We want to make a trip to Bangla road one evening, leaving from Kata Beach.

We hope to have dinner near Bangla road and then walk and enjoy the vibe.
Will getting transport back to Kata be difficult after midnight?
Thanks in advance.
