It was only today that I know the rules.. I'm a tourist! Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 03:57 PM UTC
Hello!
I'm a smoker and it's my first time here in Singapore. I didn't know about the rules and regulation here.
I know in Hong Kong I can bring a few packs of cigarettes for my consumption w/o having to declare it.
I was very shock to find out that I have to declare my cigarettes just only today. Last week, I brought 10 packs of Marlboro lights and I swear to GOD I don't know about the rules in Singapore. I'm just gonna be here until the end of the month for training.
what should I do? Should I throw them away? Te airport didn't beep beep my bag and question me..I'm not hiding it or anything.. I just put them all in one part of my check in luggage...
Will I be fined? Can I still consume them? I can buy their cigarettes here if it's not allowed and smoke the ones I brought in when I leave Singapore..
Please advise... I do not have a lot of money and I can't afford to be fined..What should I do with the cigarettes? I don't mind burning them and but the cigs here... which I already did bought a pack while back and stop smoking the ones I brought here...
Please advice...
thanks

Suggestions please Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 03:31 PM UTC
We are thinking of spending 4 days in Beijing on our way to Korea.
We have seen "packages" for hotel and tours but have seen how cheap the same hotels are so we are thinking of doing it ourselves. My question is - do hotels have excursions to places like the great wall etc,(suggestions welcome) are they expensive? We have done similar in Korea and find it much cheaper.
also which is best way to get to city (hotel) taxi or bus?

visa Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 02:26 PM UTC
Hi, I am a little confused regarding visas. Last year I visited Thailand for 3 weeks, as a British citizen I did not need a visa 'under the visa exemption rule'. Next year I am planning a trip through SE Asia, I will be entering Thailand overland via Cambodia, how long can I stay in Thailand without a visa if I enter overland? is it 30 days or 15 days? Also is there any other way of extending my stay without having to cross the boarder and re-enter? I have looked on several websites which seemed to give me conflicting information.
Any information would be great, thanks

HCMC Or Siem Reap Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 01:59 PM UTC
I'm off to Bangkok in March and have a 5 day side trip to either HCM or Siem Reap to decide on. I've never been to Vietnam, however Angkor has always seemed very interesting and given I may not be in SE Asia for a while, perhaps its a good time to see it before it gets too run down.
Thoughts and suggestions?

Ping Pong in Beijing Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 01:41 PM UTC
Greetings,
I'm a photographer planning a trip to China to work on my personal project about ping pong, http://www.douglasljungkvist.com/projects/Ping-Pong in January. I was curios if any locals or past visitors have any suggestions of places to visit to document the play of table tennis.
I'm interested in indoor and public outdoor venues and anything else that illustrates how ping pong is a part of the Chine culture.
Cheers,
Douglas

Chengdu Traffic Inn Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 01:25 PM UTC
An alternative I am considering is Chengdu Traffic Inn at Lin Jiang Zhong Lu. How far is it to walk to Wuhou Temple?
According to a map Chengdu Traffic Inn has posted, it is less than 20 mins away on foot. Is it true?

Chengdu Dreams Travel International Youth Hostel Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 01:23 PM UTC
I am considering staying in Chengdu Dreams Travel International Youth Hostel due to its very close proximity to Wuhou Temple but I read a comment that it can be noisy there until midnight due to the karaoke lounge below the rooms. Is there anyone who has stayed there, who can confirm it is noisy?

China Airlines Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 10:34 AM UTC
I will arrive in Beijing from Hanoi Vietnam through Taipei by China Airlines. The airlines informs me that my flight arrives into Taipei too late to get the connecting flight to Beijing on the same day, therefore I need to stay in Taipei for the night and catch the 8am flight to Beijing. Question – is China Airlines responsible for the cost of the hotel for the layover in Taipei?

We will be carrying a couple of large suitcases and don't mind paying for a cab, but are also happy to be directed using other transport if it's easy to follow directions. Thank you for your kind help.

Hi,
We are thinking about staying at Thanh Kieu Beach Bungalows in Phu Quoc and wanted to know if anyone has stayed there and what your experience was like. Most everything else is booked up as we plan to go in mid-December. We are looking for clean bungalows right on the beach.

Bangkok Tour Posted: Mon November 9, 2009 01:32 AM UTC
Hi Friends,
I posted this details in this Forum on 25th October'09 but only one reply came with not much details from Micheal. As per his advice, I also sent him reply to his gmail address but he seems to be not accessing his mails or may be on tour again. While I wait for his reply, I shall welcome advice from my VT traveller friends. Thanks in advance!
This is Goutam Mitra from Kolkata. We are a group of 5 ( four adult and a kid) would be visiting Bangkok for 8 days from 3rd Jan to 10th Jan. Though we have many places in our mind to visit. We are reaching BKK at 12 NOON on 3rd. We would like to see Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya, Floating Market, Chao Praya river cruise, almost all the wats, Bangkok Museums, Royal Palace, Royal Museum, Boat Museum, Safari park, Pattaya only for a day, Thai Dance drama, etc . In other words we would like to explore the city and surroundings as much as possible. We are not interested to see the sex related shows like Alcazar, Pat Pong shows etc. We have drawn many itinerary but joining the VT forum is obtain help from some expert Bangkok travelers, who can suggest me as what we can see day wise to explore the place. Could someone help me to draw a day wise itinerary to explore the place? I would like to spend the first day exploring the city and wats if possible.
We would also like to have a small VT meet with like minded people in Bangkok. Our VT Archeologist friend Pattayaraj would be joining us for a day!
Thanks to all of you for responding in advance!

Safety, Security and Health? Posted: Sun November 8, 2009 10:57 PM UTC
Is it considered safe for American Tourists to India? The US State Dept has advisories about the possibility of terror attacks in the not so distant future.
Also, what are the risks concerning illness? Are all the vaccinations really neccesary? They can amount to quite a bit of money.
I should emphasize also I am researching for a trip either late 2010 or early 2011.
