Doha Driving license to rent a car
Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 06:02 PM UTC
Hi there
Will be stopping over in Doha for a day soon and want to rent a car. Does anyone know from experience if my husband can use his Dubai driving license over there, his UK one, or does he need to get an International one?
Thanks in advance

Doha Doha Stopover
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 08:57 PM UTC
I have an 8 hour stopover in Doha on the 20th of december, and was just trying to find out whether I will be able to have a bot of a nosy around the city to get out the airport. Would this be possible? Would I need a transit visa on a British Passport?
And if a transit is possible, how long is the journey into the city from the airport?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Doha Doha city tour
Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 04:18 PM UTC
Hi,

I did an internet search for a city tour in doha but I didn't find any relevant results. Are there any daily city tours (like in most major cities in the world)?

Thanks.

Doha Day stopover in Doha
Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 06:35 PM UTC
Hi there
Will be going to the UK in August and wondered if it's worth doing a full day stopover in Doha, Qatar? Have been looking at things to do there, but there doesn't seem that much of interest as far as I can see! (But with all the new development going on, I could be wrong!) Does anyone have must-see things to do for a day (from approx. 7am - 11pm on (probably) a Monday).
Thanks in advance!

Doha 20 hour Long duration transit in Doha... :(
Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 11:57 AM UTC
Hi.

I am in desperate need of some advice about my trip this summer.

Ive booked tickets to travel from ManchesterUK to manilaPhilippines by Qatar Airways. will transit in doha - land at 18.00 and the connection flight is at 14.00 the following day which means approx 20 hours transit time.
i am travelling with a twelve year old (my little sister). As you can imagine im quite concerned about this and was wondering if anyone has had experience with (extremely) long transit times in DOHA airpot.

ive searched online and some forums have mentioned that Qatar Airways will provide free accommodation if the inbound and outbound flight is with the same carrier (it is, both by qatar airways) and if the transit time is more than 8hours (it is). However these forums that stated this are old (conversations about a year ago) and some people stated that qatar airways does not offer this anymore.

although free accomodation provided by the flight carrier would be great - i would also like any other information that any other people has had on their experiences with long stays at DOHA airport.

other options i am thinking of are:

1. is there a lounge in the airport that will allow us to sit or lie (the twelve year old will need to sleep) comfortably for about 15 hours? and if so is there a price (i am assuming there is) and how much is entry to the lounge?

2. is it possible to leave the airport to find a hotel to sleep in? will i need a transit visa? and can i get it on arrival? We will be travelling with an Indonesian Passport but we have indefinite leave to remain in the UK and a diplomatic visa to enter and stay in the philippines.

Thanks very much for anyones help in advance.

Doha Working here until April 1, I need friends!!!
Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 05:32 AM UTC
I will be working here and staying at the Ritz. It's a great hotel but I like to dance and party a little. I do not understand how safe it is to meet lady's willing to dance, if I can even talk to them. This is my first time here and right now I scared I'll get arrested for looking at someone. Qarties are very private people and I've been yelled at for taking pictures of the lobby at the Ritz and what I thought was a police motorcycle but it turned out to be military. I own a motorcycle and thought it would be nice to have a picture. Then I see other people taking pictures in the lobby, so what am I to think. My co-workers are wondering what trouble I will get into next.

Any suggestions anyone???

Dear VT Members,

Could anyone let me know where to purchase good Agarwood oil [Arabic Oudh] in Doha. Although I hear they are pretty pricey, if a range of costs could be provided, that would be awesome.
Thanks,

Doha How is Doha Duty Free Camera Products?
Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 04:41 PM UTC
I have the choice of making a stop at Doha, but the only reason I would do this is if i can find a good deal on a DSLR camera.

In the past Ive never been impressed with Duty Free prices, especially at places and have found that I can actually get prices on the high street cheaper - with a bit of haggling.

Does anybody have experience of buying a electrical items here - did you make a BIG saving?

Qatar Going by bus from Qatar to UAE - woman traveller
Posted: Sun January 13, 2008 09:05 AM UTC
Hello all,

I will go 6 month for an internship in Qatar (as a woman student with another student from my univeristy). I had planed to travel in the countries around Qatar (Oman, UAE, Bahrain...) but I realised that to go from Qatar to other countries by road, it was required to go though Saudi Arabia. I've seen that it was possible to go by bus from Doha to Abu Dhabi but to do this a transit Visa through Saudi Arabia is required. Concerning this Visa, I've read that it was not possible for single woman (or with a male who are not a partner) to get this VISA. Is it true or did this rule change? (I'm French, but I don't think that the nationality is important to get this transit Visa as a single woman).

Thanx for your help especially if a single woman crossed this country recently.

xoxo
