So, after 12 years in the UAE I'm FINALLY going to explore Oman properly!
Just wanted to see whether any experienced Oman travellers / residents have any tips or input for my upcoming trip?
Day 1: Drive from Dubai via Al Ain to Wadi Bina Khalid (we will camp nearby overnight).
Day 2: Drive to Sur and stay there in Sur Plaza Hotel overnight.
Day 3: Drive to Ras Al Hinz and check-into Turtle Beach Resort.
Day 4: Friend's wedding party at Turtle Beach Resort.
Day 5: Drive from Ras Al Hinz to Muscat, stay at Al Naseem Hotel overnight.
Day 6: Drive back from Muscat to Dubai.
Any advice or input would be much appreciated. We are 4 people going in 2 four-wheel drives.

Based on experience, normally when does the Khareef monsoon starts in Salalah? When can one expect to see the green sceneries?
This is because I may be at Dubai or Abu Dhabi around 11-12 June, and is thinking of visiting Salalah if the Khareef has started and the green sceneries can be seen.
Also, are there buses that travel from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Salalah on a regular basis?
Regards
Victor

Hi All!
After many delays etc, finally leaving Mar 24. First to UAE, then Muscat by bus. Have lately heard from some that there may be problems down Salalah way due to the situation in Yemen, & that it may not be safe. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi - can anyone advise me on the cost of living in Muscat. I know this is a very subjective question, but a basic understanding of costs would be invaluable. For example, I have been told that as a western expat I might spend around OR 100 a month on food. Is that feasible?
Any divers who might advise me on whether I should bring my dive rig with me, or buy in Muscat?
Much appreciated,
Craig

Hi - could anyone please advise whether it is OK for my girlfriend to visit me, say for a couple of weeks as a tourist, if I am working as an expat in Muscat, and she is living elsewhere? And is it OK for her to stay at my appartment during that time - how about checking into hotels etc, would that present a problem? Thank you.

Hi friends,
I am planning to drive from Dubai to Salalah on 22-Sep, starting early in the morning with an intention to reach Salalah same evening. Can someone answer the following questions for me?
1. what is the travel duration if I drive at an average speed of 120 Kmph with a 15 min break every 2-3 hours?
2. What time should I start from Dubai if I want to reach by around 7pm in Salalah?
3. My car is under the bank's name. Is it ok if I drive through Oman border with my car under lien hypothecated to bank.
4. I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara which gives me a distance of about 400-450 on a single tankful. Do I need to carry extra fuel?
5. Any other driving tips?

Can anyone tell me if there are any nice budget hotels for backpackers/independent travelers? Or are there camping areas? I checked some of the hotels but they seemed really expensive, maybe that is just the going rate in Muscat. We will be there the end of Nov and only staying a few days. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone have any recent info regarding unmarried tourist couples travelling in Oman. Is it best just to say you are married? We are over 50, & not going to do anything too wild. Also, what exactly is a girl to wear? I do not want to offend, but on the other hand, I do not want to cook in the heat either. Thanks

I'm planning a 2-4 days travel from Dubai to Salalah via Muscat by road in July by car. I'm looking for people to share the fuel cost only and for the company. Details can be discussed( please drop me an email).
