Muscat Dubai to muscat with family?
Posted: Fri May 30, 2008 05:52 PM UTC
Guys

We are planning to visit Muscat from Dubai through road in July end- August first week.

We do have a valid Kuwaiti residency and definetely will take a UAE visit visa ( on arrival) to spend two days in Dubai. However there are two questions , related to Oman visit///

1. Will we require visit visa for Oman too? will it be available on land borders while crossing from Dubai to Muscat.. if we enter oman , our visit visa to dubai will be cancelled so how we can resturn to dubai from Oman?

2. What is average temperature in Muscat those days ? Will it be hot like other countries in Middle East?

Muscat Studying Arabic in Oman?
Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 01:52 AM UTC
I am a college student interested in learning Arabic. By summertime, I will have completed 2 semesters of Arabic. I am extremely interested in continuing my learning of Arabic over the summer, and I was wondering where the best place to learn the language would be. Some things that are of importance to me are: quality of instruction, location of the school, and activities outside of the school. Since I am going alone, I want to study somewhere where I won't feel secluded or outside of society. Also, scenery is of great importance. All things considered, where would you guys recommend studying Arabic? (I want to study for a period of about 2 months...I'm not sure if that changes anything). ( I know I posted this about a month ago in the Sousse and Damascus forum; however, those are no longer options.)

Oman How to make the most of a desert camp and a 'grown up' resort near Muscat
Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 11:07 PM UTC
Hi
I'm excited about a 10 day trip to Oman coming up which will include a drive to Sur and on to some turtle watching from where we plan to go to one of the camps within Wahiba Sands for one night.

My first question is what time are you expected to arrive at a desert camp and what time are you expected to leave the next day?

From there we will stay a couple of nights in Nizwa and then a final couple of nights at a beach area near Muscat before having to fly home.

The second question is where to stay in Muscat? We are after somewhere quiet and relaxing with a good pool/ beach and reasonable food/bar. My worry is finding somewhere that is full of large tour groups (karaoke and quiz nights) or families (under 12 discos). We can not afford 5 star but could go up to OR80/night at a push.

Thanks in advance. Rob

Oman What should I wear
Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 08:32 PM UTC
Hi,I am a not so spring chicken but lively traveller and I am visiting Oman for the first time and although I have been to Abu Dhabi and Dubai I know that the dress codes vary from Country to Country. I tend to wear mainly the knee length capri shorts with short sleeve tops. Will these be ok, can I wear jeans or do I need to buy some floor length skirts?

Oman Relocation to Oman
Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 03:38 PM UTC
I work for a shipping company and I was giving the option to oversee our operation in Suhar (Oman) for 3 months. There seems to be very little information regarding Hotels, furnished apartments and tourist's attraction in the area. Oman seems to be a fascinating country with lots to do in Muscat and elsewhere but not Sohar. Any advice in terms of accommodation and site seeing in that city.

Thanks

Oman Tour operator in Oman
Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
Can anyone recommend a reliable, good value tour operator based in Oman for 2-3 night tours into the Wahiba Sands? I am travelling with my husband to Oman in April, and we are going to travel independently for most of the time, but hope to take an organised trip into the desert for 2-3 nights. Thank you!

Hi there,

Muscat Intercontinental hotel with kids
Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
We are just about to book a five night stay in March, just wondered if anyone can give us any feedback on this hotel. We have a toddler and a 6month baby, want to be sure the hotel is child friendly and safe. We have been offered a Club Room whatever that is (no info on website going to try and give them a call for clarification). Can't wait to escape Bahrain for a while!

Oman Camel Trek in Oman!
Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 09:57 PM UTC
I have just returned from Oman and found it to be a fantastic country with such friendly people. I am really keen to return in the next few months and spend about 10 days doing a hard core trek across the sandy dessert on camel. I would like to get together with a few others who are keen, we will have a guide and carry all supplies including camping gear, so it will be a cheapish trip, but hopefully an amazing expereince.

Anyone interested please let me know and I can begin to organise.

Thanks

Oman Oman - Are tours necessary?
Posted: Mon December 24, 2007 06:24 PM UTC
I am going to Oman alone on 27th December for two weeks. I wondering what is the best way to get around. It would be nice to hook up with other backpackers but not sure how likely that will be. Am i best to sort an organised tour out, hire a car or stick to public transport. I am up for an adventure and want to see as much as possible (on a budget, if possible in oman) but like i say at the same time its always nice to meet other travellers.

Any tips or advise would be great.

p.s anyone out there wanting to hook up, get intouch.

Hi:

We are driving in a sedan car down to Muscat from Dubai this month end for 5-6 days. We would ideally want to do the following:
a. Drive through the coast (time is not a constraint).
b. Camp 1 night in a safe place with other tourists around.
c. Watch dolphins from the best possible place.
d. Any other places in & around Muscat that are of historical/geographical importance & safe to drive.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Muscat Any suggestions for a good dolphin watching tour?
Posted: Sun November 11, 2007 09:26 PM UTC
We are off to Muscat for Christmas and the activity that is top of the list (even above the usual eating, drinking etc) is taking a boat trip to see the dolphins in the wild. We are not interested in diving, just want to watch from the boat. I cannot find any hard and fast details on the web about these trips. Lots of sites refer to them but I cannot find any details on price, duration etc. Note that price is not the prime concern, we want the the best tour not the cheapest (but would be happy if one particular company was both).

TIA

Oman Eid al Adha
Posted: Sun November 11, 2007 06:32 AM UTC
I plan to visit Oman (and the UAE) about the time, the Eid al Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) is set to begin (around 18 or 20 December).

I wish to know if during this period, the shops, restaurants, souqs, and tourist sites (forts, etc.) shall operate with normal hours?

Is there a problem with traffic on the roads, at this time?

Oman cheap good hotels in Muscat / Nizwan
Posted: Sun October 21, 2007 06:50 PM UTC
Hello,

this is a question to all travelers who've already been there or who live in Oman: Where can I find cheap, good and clean hotels for about 20=25 dollars/
night in Muscat and Nizwan ? Is this possible or are there only high-class
places?
My guide book doesn't say much on that.
Would I have to book in advance?

Thank you for all information.
