I will be going to Dubai, Jordan & Oman this year. I intend to buy some gold jewelery. I told a well travelled friend I was going to buy in in Dubai and she said it was much better value in Amman. Is this true.

| Jordan | roadtrip, italy to jordan Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
Hey everyone,
I'm planning a road-trip through south-eastern Europe and Middle East region and I'd like to have your opinions and suggestions! The idea is starting from Milano (where I live) and go through Balcans (Belgrade, Skopje) to Istanbul, Turkey. Then running along the turkish coast to Iskenderun, crossing to Syria, then to Jordan and arriving to Aqaba for a refreshing Red-Sea dive. Next step would be Israel, Ashdod and ship to Greece, headed home, again shipping to Italy and driving along the Adriatico. I'm aware of the risk I could face in this last part of the journey, and here I'd like to ask you if anyone has done something similar in the area. I know someone who ran it by motorbike and had no particular problem, but of course I'm trying to scan every possible trouble I could encounter. My major concerns are: - Safety: especially in Syria and Jordan, for my car (a bmw with italian plate) and consequently for myself. I thought of setting up a GPS alarm and some kind of defensive widget, any idea? - Getting out: visa and israeli stamps are quite of a problem, especially when getting back from israel, since nor Syria or Lebanon would allow me to transit. The solution will be shipping myself and car to Greece, but is it doable? I've heard about 350+250 euro for myself+car. Anyone has ever tried? - Money: with fuel, tolls, ferries, taxes, carnets de douane, nights and dinings, it seems it's getting a super-expensive journey. Any of you have an idea of how much would I need? Finally I'm also in search of company. The project was meant for 2 cars and 4 people, but my friend piked me (as often happens) and I don't want to give up. I have a bunch of friends to visit on the way, but if anyone had some similar plan I'd be happy to share :) Thanks everyone! Bye bye, Giorgio |

| Jordan | The visa situation: travelling Jordan to Israel Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 01:43 PM UTC
I'm travelling to Jordan for 10 days but am thinking of visiting Nazareth in Isreal. I've read you can apply for a 2nd passport to counteract the problem of an Isreal stamp. So how do I explain this when applying for a 2nd passport when my only options are to renew - and the old one is sent back or apply for a lost passport?
Also, if the Isrealies stamp my visiting card, would I then be let back in to jordan? |

| Amman | What clothes to bring for women & children Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 01:58 AM UTC
We are going to be spending 3 weeks in Amman in August. I've been looking for specific clothing guidelines, but really can't find anything very specific. We are from America. Are capri pants worn in Jordan? How about shorts for the children? We will be staying in Amman, but sightseeing all over Jordan. Would we be better sticking with long skirts (to the ankle) and long pants? Are short sleeves okay? What about shoes -- sandals, flip-flops? Or closed toes only?
Thank you. |

| Amman | Amman to Jerusalem Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 12:30 AM UTC
I am seeking information about travel from Amman to Jersualem...What are the hours of operation for the Allenby bridge? How long can I expect the trip to take? How does it work? Take a bus to the bridge, cross with shared taxi? What kind of visa do I need if I am to fly into Amman, stay in West Bank for one month and return to Jordan? Do I need to acquire a multi-entrance visa before I leave (usa)? And about how long does it take to get one? what are border crossings like? Can I expect to be questioned thoroughly regarding my intentions in West bank? I will be doing volunteer work there. Any other info would be so extremely helpful! Thanks!

| Aqaba | feedback on diving and Place to stay in Aqaba Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 09:28 AM UTC
I am planning to go to Aqaba in June and I have couple questions.
Diving: I have found some info on the new diving club called Aqaba Adventure Divers Dive Center. have you heard about it? Is it good, bad, ok? Accomodation: I am looking into staying at the Captains Tourist Hotel. Any feedback on that one? And what would you advice, does it make sense to do a prior reservation or just on the spot? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. |
