Cork The Creed Family
Posted: Fri August 25, 2006 10:11 AM UTC
Just wondering if you had been in touch with the Creed Family from Coachford since your visit with them bqack in 2003? They are friends of mine and I wondered if you had heard the news about them. I am living in India now running a street kids home and other things - but lived in Ireland very near the Creeds for 12 years!

We are a group of fellas in there late 30s visiting Cork on a golfing trip at end of July. Can you recommend pubs to go. Whilst we are knocking on a bit we are still very much into nightlife and having a dance and a laugh (with our own age of course).

Cork Special meal on sunday night
Posted: Mon May 1, 2006 02:12 PM UTC
We will be in cork for a special anniversary on Sunday and would like a romantic meal out. Under 100 sterling for both of us including wine - doesn't have to be posh though as long as it has a nice atmosphere and good food. Easy? - the catch is that I am vegetarian and also (horribly) allergic to wild mushrooms. 1st we were going to go to paradiso but - disaster - closed on sundays. We were thinking of the 'ivory tower' as it sounds unique but is there going to be enough choice for the vege to avoid wild mush? Other suggestions and personal recommendations are very much welcomed.
Thanks loads for help!

Cork Stag-do in Skibbereen
Posted: Mon February 13, 2006 03:37 PM UTC
Hi there. I've been given the honourable task of organsing a stag-do for friend arounf the middle July. Having gone on various stag-do's that just involved drinking and not much else I'm looking to organise something a little more activity based ( well during the day anyway ). A friend said he went on a stag-do to Skibbereen before and they did kayaking, hill-walking and stuff like that during the day and then went to the local for a few pints. Does anybody know if there's a package that's offered doing this or is just a matter of organising the events separately ? Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

Hola,

I'm going to be in Cork for the St Patricks day this year and was wondering where the "craic" will be at? I hear that there is a fantastic selection of bars in the City, and one that comes highly recommended is the Mutton lane Inn and Scotts...have anyone heard of this??

Por cierto, hay gente de Espanya en Cork?? Que vais a hacer para la fiesta??

Anyway, any help is apreciated...

Cork Newbie to Ireland
Posted: Thu December 29, 2005 08:21 AM UTC
I will be arriving in Cork on 12th February 2006. I will be on an extended Holiday/Visit. My son lives in Rushbrook. We dont want to impose ourselves on him for too long, so I will be looking for a place to rent. Myself, wife and 17 year old son, so will need a min of 2 but prefer a 3 bedroom spot. I would like to rent for at least 6 months and have no idea where to start looking. We visited Cork in July 2005 and had a fabulous time, we found the people very friendly and helpfull. I have just found this site, so decided to give it a bash and see if I am successfull??

In advance: Thanks :)

I have been offered some cheap flights to Cork for Sunday 18th December, returning the next day.

Does Cork close down on a Sunday or would it be business as usual?

Cork Moving To Cork With Nothing?
Posted: Thu October 6, 2005 01:49 PM UTC
Hello All;

I am moving to Cork in three weeks and would like some info on THE most inexpensive housing there. I know it's probably going to be very hard, but thought I would ask anyhow. I have never been there before but my grandparents are from there and I figured this was as good a time as any to make the move.

I am an avid hiker and don't have a problem living out of a tent if I have to - would this be an option, and if so, any ideas or tips in that regards? I have all the gear I need to live comfortably until I can get the money up for a flat.

I would rather find a cheap weekly rental, but as I said, my budget is extremely low.

Also, I am a building and grounds maintenance man and I also have done a lot of forestry work as well with the parks department, but I will work any job that I can find. Any ideas on me finding work there? best places to look?

Lastly, any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated. And, I'll even owe you a drink if you ever feel like taking me up on it.

I know coming to Cork with little money might not seem like a wise decision, but I am mending a broken heart from a divorce and I really believe it is the right move for me.

Anyhow, I thank you all and hope your day is going great!

Cork Stag weekend/B'day/St Patricks Day
Posted: Thu October 6, 2005 07:36 AM UTC
Looking to stay over in Cork next March around the 17th for 3 nights with a few friends.
Being the St Patrick's Day Festival in Cork, are the drink prices likely to shoot up for this occassion or not??
And...........is Cork a good place to go for a stag weekend, bear in mind we're not a bunch rowdy bloated English idiots you can get in some places on a stag do!
We intend to have a few drinks but see a bit of the culture as well. (That's the plan anyway).

ANy advise would be grand!!

Cork Transport to Cobh from Cork Airport
Posted: Sun August 21, 2005 11:36 PM UTC
Hi,

Is there an alternative to taxis for getting from Cork airport to Cobh on a Saturday afternoon? for example a direct bus link?

If taxis are the only option, does anyone know roughly what we can expect to pay?

Many thanks.

Cork where to live??
Posted: Fri July 29, 2005 04:21 PM UTC
I'm thinking of moving for a job at cork university hospital. I'm married with a 2 year old son and would preferably like to live within travelling distance of both work and the sea, in a nice friendly place that's not too expensive. will probably rent before settling down and buying. Am I making the right move?? Which areas should I ideally be aiming for?? I don't think I want to live in the city if I can help it.

Thankyou for replying (I hope!!)

Cork Self-catering accommodation
Posted: Thu July 21, 2005 03:17 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip to Cork in early September. Can anybody recommend any self-catering accommodation within easy reach of the main sights (Cork City, Cobh, perhaps Bantry Bay etc.)? I am looking for somewhere for two people and want to stay for a week. I have searched various websites but most accommodation is aimed at families and groups (i.e., sleeping 5 -6 or more), and I am finding it hard to find anything for under 650 euros, which is beyond our budget. Am I looking in the wrong places?

Alternatively, we can stay 3 nights in a b&b or hotel and spend more of our budget on eating out. Would this be enough time to see Cork and Cobh? Are there other 'must-see' places that we would risk missing if we stayed for only three nights?

Thanks for your help.

Cork 2 Birthday Boys & 18 mates in Cork!
Posted: Mon July 4, 2005 11:58 AM UTC
Hi all

I'll probably post on here lots over the coming weeks. But I have 2 important questions........but first some background. It's a mates 30th birthday so we've decided to whisk him off to Cork for the weekend as a surprise (it's also another mates birthday but it's not a biggy so he won't get the same attention.... but I digress). So first question is
1. Is there anywhere big enough to accommodate 20ish people (everything we've found is small B&Bs or sleeps 10 only)?
2. We want to organise a treasure-type hunt (for his present) and I need half a dozen or so (fairly well known) landmarks so I can write appropriate clues and plan the route?

oh a cheeky 3rd question....
3. Does anyone any pubs/clubs that play live music that can accommodate such a large group?

Cork Living in Cork
Posted: Thu June 2, 2005 02:06 PM UTC

Hi guys,
Thinking of moving (again!), this time to Cork. I know next to nothing about the city, and I have a couple of questions...

1) Are there any particularly horrible areas? I'll be renting with a budget of 600-700 euro/month. How high should I be setting my sights for this kind of money? At the moment I'm in a 2 bed apartment in Waterford city centre, but realise that Cork is going to be a little more expensive accomodation-wise.

2) What is public transport like ? It's no odds to me as I drive, but my girlfriend will be studying in the city centre. If we can get a place in the city centre or on a good bus route that would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Cork Changing places

Hi all, we're a couple from Naples, Italy, tired of the big city. We have a two month old baby and were thinking of moving to Cork. Would need an apartment for, say, six months and then would like to buy. Does it sound possible to you? Also, we need to work, alas! How's the work situation?
Thanks a million,

Cork Looking for work
Posted: Tue May 10, 2005 02:59 PM UTC
Any VTers from Cork have friends or associates that are looking for employees for the summer. I am a 28 year old student at UCC from the US and have extensive experience in transportation and customer service. I wouldn't mind working in these areas for the summer but would prefer something a little more outdoorsy, landscaping, gardening, lawn mowing, etc. All suggestions and leads welcome as my girlfriend is also looking for work(preferably as a nanny or tutor in English or Spanish)

Thanks in advance,
