Galway Quick stop in Galway
Posted: Thu August 3, 2006 06:56 PM UTC
I'm going to be in Galway on Monday for 4 hours so I need to know what are the essential things I have to do? It's a stop-off on a rail journey so I don't want to stray too far from the railway station and get myself lost... Also, does anyone have any suggestions for a good, cheap place to eat? Don't have much time or money but still want to make the most of my afternoon there.

Galway Secret campsites
Posted: Sat June 24, 2006 07:16 PM UTC
Does anyone know of any nice little campsites off-the-beaten-track in the Galway/Connemara area? It doesn't matter if they've only got basic facilities, I just don't want to feel like I'm stuck in a caravan park.

Galway finding accommodation
Posted: Thu June 15, 2006 09:02 AM UTC
hello!

i'm a student from poland and from 1 july till the end of august i'm going to work in the ispcc. i'm coming to galway on 29 june with a friend of mine but we still haven't found any place place to live there during this period, i mean something of reasonable prices.
i've already browsed through www.daft.ie but the adverts there concentrate rather on hiring rooms for the period of at least one year, which i'm naturally not interested in.

could you please help me with finding acoommodation in galway? what i'm searching for is a single room or a room for two [with two beds!]. if by any chance you know someone who would hire me/us a room for the period i've mentioneg or if you know any sites where i can find some adverts via net, please do let me know.

thank you!

Galway Want to meet-up St Patrick's Day?
Posted: Fri February 17, 2006 04:31 AM UTC
Hi!

I was in Galway last year for St. Patrick's Day, and had a great time! (both in the town (pubs/etc) and on a couple of day-trips to the region outside Galway City).

I've decided to head back there this year (also during St. Patrick's Weekend).
I'm travelling solo, so would be interested in meeting-up with anyone else who happens to be there at the same time (either a visitor or a 'local'). If you'd like to get together for drinks, dinner, or day-trips outside of Galway City, please let me know!

About me: I'm 39/m (but don't feel that old!), from the U.S. (New Jersey). I really enjoy travelling/meeting people from other places.

Please let me know if you're interested in meeting-up.

Galway Ceilidh in August?
Posted: Mon July 4, 2005 05:53 AM UTC
Hi fellow VTers

I'll be in and around County Galway from 8th to 13 August and was wondering if there were any 'ceilidhs' happening around then? I'm a big fan of traditional Irish music (grew up on the stuff, despite having no Irish blood in me!), so if anyone knows of any proper traditional pubs with proper traditional, impromptu Irish music as well, that'd be great :o)

Thanking you in advance....

Galway Friend 2
Posted: Sat May 14, 2005 02:48 PM UTC
Hi again!

I have posted a question in this forum entitled "Hostel/Connemara/Friend" earlier but fortunately someone has (unwittingly) helped me to find a mistake in my first question: The dates written down there are wrong. Just to correct it: I will be in Galway from 11.7.2005 - 24.7.2005 or 7.8.2005!!

So if anyone is interested in getting into contact with me in order to discover the city with me: Read my first question to get more information about me and don't hesitate to drop me a line :-)

Best wishes,

Galway Hostel/Connemara/Friend
Posted: Sat May 7, 2005 10:06 PM UTC
Hi,

I am 18 year old female German student who is going to spend at least two weeks in Galway (11.8. - 24.8 2005 or 7.8.2005).
As I have never been to Ireland before, I am very glad to have at least found this forum where I can post my (numerous) questions :-)

1.Well, as all of you know how much you earn as a student I cannot afford more than a youthhostel. So, has anyone of you ever been to the EYRE SQUARE HOSTEL in Galway, Eyre Square? (Please do not talk about it too bad..I have already booked one week there and at least the staff seems to be very friendly).

2.During the last week, I suddenly set into my mind to make a bike trip from Galway to Roundstone or Clifden. What do you think..do I have to whip away this wish as fast as it has appeared or is it possible for me (a girl but quite sporty :-) to make my way from Galway to Roundstone and back in about three days?? By the way,...maybe this questions seems ridiculous but..do you have to have a tent/caravan if you want to sleep at a campingsite?? Is there also a possibility to pay for a place to sleep in some kind of a large group tent?

3.Is there anyone out there who spends some days in Galway or around Galway during the time I will be there? As I will travel on my own I am searching for someone who would like to go to a pub or the cinema with me..or someone who wants to accompany me to the Cliffs of Moher..or on my trip through Connemara etc. Just to make it clear from the beginning: I am NOT searching for ANY KIND OF RELATIONSHIP or romance!!!! All I am searching for is ..well, a friend who does not want to spend his time alone either..not less, not more!

Thanks in advance for everybody who tries to help me.

Best wishes,
Hamspeck

Galway Seeking advice on fishing Galway County
Posted: Wed May 4, 2005 06:40 PM UTC
Hello all,

I am an avid fisherman from the USA and will be on a biking holiday in and around Galway county, Connemara from May 19-28. I will be bringing along my spin-casting pole (No fly-fishing for me :) 6ft rod, 8lb test. I hope to catch some Brown trout, brook trout, etc. along the way during the ride. Any suggestions on some decent fishing holes, streams, etc. that I could fish from land for Brown trout? Any recomendations on tackle, bait and the like is also greatly appreciated!!

Thanks Much!!

I will be traveling to County Galway May 19-30. I'm staying with my wife's family and they have made it clear we can use their car, however I'm not into driving in Ireland. Is there a bus that goes from Galway to the burren and cliffs of Moher ?

Galway Minorities OK in Galway?
Posted: Mon January 10, 2005 02:25 PM UTC
I've lived in London for several years, and after several bad experiences in places like Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, generally avoid travel in the UK. I've been to Dublin once and had a great time. Have heard Galway is a wonderful place -- is it unusual for minorities to face the kind of hassle and aggession that (in my experience) one gets in the cities mentioned? And yes, I understand that Ireland is not part of the UK, but close enough for the purposes of my question.

Galway Galway Ireland - ever stay at the Sleep Zone hostel?
Posted: Fri October 15, 2004 12:59 PM UTC
I am familiar with the small, clean Galway hostel, and the famous Barnacles Hostel in Galway, but I was considering the Sleep Zone hostel

The prices look cheap and it is 100 meters from the train/bus station (Eyre Square).

Anyone stay there? What are your thoughts?
