Arbil Concern regarding Visiting Arbil Feedback Needed
Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 02:26 PM UTC
Hi,

Recently i was told that i have to go to Arbil on my companies behalf for a project there which would take around 30-35 days. The way things are presently in Iraq I am scared. I know that Arbil is comparetively safe and is like any other mid-east country.

I would appreciate if any one can please tell me about the safety and security there. Is there anything i should particularly take care off.

Your response will help me a lot. Desperately need feedback.

Iraq Have you been recently?
Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 10:38 AM UTC
Hello, has anyone been to Erbil, Kurdistan this year or late last year?
If so I would be most grateful for first hand information on the cost of living, the things that I should take, and the things that I should not do. I will be there for quite a while so any information that you feel may be of use to me would be well received. I've travelled in Lebanon in 2004 and 2005 so am used to the basic customs of the Arab world and speak basic Arabic but have little knowledge of Kurdistan. Thank-you and the best of luck to all.

Baghdad Baghdad restaurant
Posted: Mon June 20, 2005 07:39 AM UTC
Salam Aleykoom!

I lived in Baghdad from 2002-2004 and am writing some
short stories about life in pre and post war Iraq. Can anyone in Baghdad tell me the name of the restaurant on Arasat street in Baghdad that had a large pool out front and a big screen to play pop music video clips? So far I have been told it was either Black and White Cafe or Al Mizan (Scales).

All the best to the members in Iraq. Let's hope there is peace soon.

Iraq Question on Musicians in Iraq
Posted: Mon October 25, 2004 03:16 PM UTC
Hi to everyone.

I know this is probably an inappropriate question
but did anybody see on visits to Iraq or perhaps
knows being from Iraq the status of musicians
in Iraq.Have most left?

Are there any jazz musicians or guitarists that
play in any kind of club? I know it may seem like a
silly question.

I would in the future like to try and help some Iraqi
musicians but am not too thrilled about the idea
of going through American govt. organizations because now there is such a negative perception
of America. In particuliar I don't like the president or his
adminastration touting successes when ordinary
people in America try to help(recent example was when Iraqi national symphony played in Washington,DC.).just my opinion.
Still being from Boston area I have access to Berklee
college of music and public libraries where there is
alot of music.I could be of some help in future.
It has worked to some degree in another country
I have tried to help.Maybe Iraq?

any help appreciated
regards

Iraq Speaking Arabic

Is there any English speaking person out there who has learned enough Arabic in a year or less to get around in the Middle East? If so, what methods did you use to learn it? i.e., books, Berlitz class, etc.

Thank you.
