Safe place to park a car Posted: Thu May 14, 2009 10:35 PM UTC
Where to park a car for 4 days/nights in Cascais? Are there any safe underground parkings in the area? How much is it? Well, the parking may be locked/closed at night - I am not going to use my car during my stay in Cascais.
Next Wednesday my wife Urszula (matcrazy0) and I start fantastic trip (I can't wait :-) from Poland to Euromeet in Cascais. Surely, as always, we will travel by car. We are going to visit northern Spain and Portugal on the way there and back (+ maybe Bordeaux, Biarritz and generally Burgundy in France). It's 3400 km one way! Unfortunatelly our centrally located hotel in Cascais (Pergola House) doesn't guarantee any parking place. Hmm... two weeks ago I parked my car overnight in northern France on a public paid parking and I (and 7 other cars) had flat tires in the morning. That's why I ask (being warned of car burglaries as well) and I worry about it.
Greetings and hugs,
Matt.

Questions about practical things for the Euromeet Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 07:10 AM UTC
The Euromeet is approaching and I can only say "woohoo!" - at the same time it's a little scary for me, as a newbie not knowing what to expect. And this is the first solo trip I'm doing where I'm not staying at somebody's place...so I have some (dumb) questions:
- I read the Euromeet page regularly. I assume the CP tickets aren't valid on Carris buses or trams and to use those we have to buy bus/tram tickets, right? Or is there a card/ticket valid on both?
- Are there fountains with drinkable water like in Rome, or where could I refill a bottle if I bring one with me?
- Not exactly related to Cascais, but when I arrive at Cais do Sodré, how do I go to the Hard Rock Café Lisbon (Avenida da Liberdade, 2)? I collect t-shirts and would like to buy them on my private time (I don't wanna carry more stuff than I have to on the Lisbon tour :P)
TIA guys

Train routing Porto - Cascais Posted: Tue April 7, 2009 04:29 AM UTC
I was on the train site looking for how to get from Porto to Cascais. Could someone please "translate". This is one of the better connections (less transfers) - there are four transfers, two in Alcantara alone. (see below).
- Is this correct?
- Are those places where the train is tranferring *safe* for a woman alone?
- Is the scenery from Porto worth taking the train, or should I just fly to Lisbon and catch something into Cascais?

Doubt; just a info. Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 06:37 PM UTC
Some time ago I wrote atip about the big park where the Museu Condes de Castro Guimaraes is located. I am not sure about the name of this park. Is this Parque Municipal da Gandarinha, or Parque Marechal Carmona?

Hi
We are visiting Cascais next week for 10 days. I am wondering whether there is somewhere to rent bicycles?. I know you can get free ones around the town but I need one with a baby carrier on back.
Also how far is Guincho beach from cascais - Is there a bus from cascais, or would you need a car - Is it far to cycle.
thanks for any help

Sea Pollution in Cascais Posted: Mon May 19, 2008 12:03 AM UTC
Hi, I have seen a couple of references on the web to the sea being polluted and not suitable for swimming in Cascais (Google Book Search - Frommers and Rough Guide). Is this information out of date? We are hoping to travel to Cascais in July with our 5 year old and would prefer somewhere safe for her to swim. Could anyone advise?
Thanks.

Good Cascais restaurant and beach recommendations please! Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 01:01 AM UTC
We will be arriving in Cascais in 2 weeks time and would like some recommendations of good restaurants. We are looking for good traditional Portuguese sea food restaurants where the locals eat, always a good sign, and also modern trendy restaurants.
Where are the best beaches close by? We will have a hire car so a short drive won’t be a problem.
Any other “Must do’s” whilst in the area would be helpful.
Many Thanks,
Andy.

Driving around Cascais Posted: Thu October 28, 2004 06:52 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I've heard so many horror stories about driving around Portugal (eg. speeding, lack of lane discipline, high road fatalities, thieves targeting rental cars).
I will be going to Cascais this December, and intended to drive a rental car around places like Sintra, Evora, Mafra, etc. I've having some doubts now though...
I was wondering if anyone had driven around this region before and could help me confirm/dispell the "truths" of those stories I've heard. Any advice on driving and parking around these regions during that period would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

?? about currency in Cascais/Lisbon area? Posted: Fri July 23, 2004 04:49 AM UTC
What is the recommended currency for the area? Should I convert all of my money to euros, or get travellers checks. Do many places take debit cards? I don't have credit cards, so I'd like to be very prepared when I get to Portugal. Thanks in advance.

First time international traveller. Posted: Mon July 5, 2004 01:10 AM UTC
Hello, I'm 28, and this fall I will be travelling to Cascais. It is my first time travelling overseas and I am very excited about it. My question is: Do you have any tips/advice about travelling to Cascais/ travelling overseas in general? We are travelling on a limited budget, so we have to stick to memorable, cheap experiences. We already have to accomidations paid for, so we don't need to worry about that. We are flying into Lisbon, planning on taking the train to Cascais then a cab to our hotel. Is that a good move, or should we consider getting a cab from Lisbon? Also, we were planning on spending a couple of days in Lisbon. Would it be a waste of time to stay in Cascais then train it to Lisbon and back for a couple of days, or should we plan on getting a hostel room in Lisbon for a night. Any websites that would be able to help me plan? Any advice is much appreciated.

Apartments/villas at Cascais Posted: Thu May 6, 2004 10:03 AM UTC
Hello!
My friends and I (4 to 6 persons) are going to visit Portugal in August this year. We'd like to rent apartments or villa for two weeks. Could you please advice if there are such apartments, how much may they cost, and what should I do to book them? I'd like to book it directly in through some Portugal company because in my country they are sold almost at double price. I need something like 3 star class close to the seashore.
Also I'd be very grateful if you could advice what resort is best to visit in Portugal? My friends told me that either Algarve, Estoril or Cascais are worth visiting. So which one of them is the best as far as I'd like to have some nightclubbing, nice scenery and some interesting sightseeing?
Thank you very much in advance!
