Faro Please Help...Any info greatly appreciated
Posted: Sun September 17, 2006 02:55 PM UTC
Hi there. I am going to the algarve with a party of 11 friends and family, and we are looking for info about transfers from Faro aiport to the resort of Areias Sao Joao in Albufeira. It states in property info that Faro airport is 40 km away, about 35 minutes drive. We have booked a property there and was looking for info on either taxi costs or traveling by coach. As there will be small children with us can someone give me the average weather there during the season of late august (22nd) till the 31st august...thanx

Faro Faro Island
Posted: Tue August 15, 2006 12:31 AM UTC
Luckily I managed to find Faro Island when I had a few hours to spare before my flight home. It's a great chill out place, and hopefully I will be able to spend a few days there early next year. Can anyone point me in the right direction for hotel/b&b accommodation directly on this "island". If not anywhere decent as close as possible.

Thanks,

Robby

Faro a lazy week in October
Posted: Tue August 8, 2006 03:57 PM UTC
Myself and my girlfriend will be taking a well earned rest in Portugal in October.

WE will fly into Faro , but at the moment we are easy about where to stay in the algarve once we arrive. Neither of us drive (don't ask) so we will be using public transport. If people could recommend some nice hotels, i don't care about stars etc just that they are clean and comfrotable and that the staff are friendly. If you have had a particularly good experiences in or around the algarve please tell us.

what we are looking for is to take advantage of the winter sun, relax on uncrowded beaches, hang out in mellow bars and generally just relax ( did i mention that we want to relax!).

any comments are gratefully recieved.

cheers in advance

Faro Does Faro have a town centre in it's own right (not Albufeira) and are there any bars etc.
Posted: Sat June 24, 2006 11:50 PM UTC
I went to Albureifa via Faro a few years ago, hired a car and drove along the Algarve coast. Unfortunately, I can't say I found anywhere unspoilt. No areas of natural beauty anywhere (not without a luxury hotel plonked right in front of it, anyway). Perhaps I just wasn't going to the right places, but my overall impression of The Algarve was that it was once a dried-up wasteleland onto which developers built countless resorts, high-rise housing estates, golf-courses and not much else. God I hate golf.

For a 'lively' night out, Albufeira was ok: expensive cocktals in unsophosicated bars catering for the worst of the inebriate British Chavs ('Essex boys/girls' back then). Standard package-holiday fare, really.
A bit like Blackpool with better weather (as they say).

As Faro is so accessible by air for me and my mates, I would like to give it another chance. But I do wonder whether Faro itself has a more traditional and/or non-touristy centre. Or maybe there are towns inland which are large enough to accomodate a couple of night's eating and drinking Portuguese-style.
All I previously saw of Faro was from the taxi en-route to Albufeira. I just remember industrial units and the odd terracotta pot wholesaler as I gazed out of the window.

Anyone know anymore? Thanks, 5Portions.

Faro Senhora do Carmo festival
Posted: Fri April 28, 2006 04:25 PM UTC
Does Faro celebrate the feast day of Senhora do Carmo on July 16? I read in one source that it does, but haven't managed to find anything else about it. If so, what is the festival like? If not, do other Algarve towns have festivals July 16? Thanks for all your help!

Faro Transport Options
Posted: Sun April 16, 2006 02:43 AM UTC
There seems to be a lot of questions on transport to/from the ALgarve. I might ask a couple more if it's alright.

First of what is the best way to get to Tavira from Evora. I notice I can take the bus but I think I have to transfer in Lisbon and Faro (!!!) can I take a train to Faro from Evora and not have to transfer via Lisbon?

Also, are there ferries that run from Faro to Cadiz or Algeciras in Spain? If not do I have to bus it to Seville and then train/bus to Algeciras?

Thankyou for you help.

I am finishing my Moroccan trip on May 20th in Casablanca and want to meet up with a friend in Faro. I don't want to have to fly to Lisbon and back down if I can help it. Does anyone have advice on a land route to get there, e.g. bus or train from the ferry landing?

Faro Algarve
Posted: Thu March 2, 2006 05:32 PM UTC
I would like to spend a week in Algarve, Portugal between May 27-June 3. There will be 4 of us going. Which part of the Algarve is nice and less touristy? I heard Faro is very touristy. We are looking for a self-catering apartment/villa to rent for a reasonable price. Anyone know of any nice and cheap ones? Are air conditioned units hard to find?
Also, how can I get from Lisbon airport to Algarve? Is there a website for transport and do you know how much it will cost?

Thanks!

Faro Where abouts in the Algarve
Posted: Tue February 21, 2006 07:49 AM UTC
Hi fellow VTers

Well I've planned the Italian leg of my trip and now I'm working on the Portugal/Spain part :)

Where in the Algarve should we stay? I'd prefer to steer clear of the really touristy places.

Also I won't have a car while I'm there so is it easy to get around?

Thankyou for you help.
