We are planning a trip to Funchal Nov. 7th.What is the weather like during that time of year? Also, how far in Lisbon from Funchal? Thanks in advance for your response!

Hi my husband and I have just booked a holiday to Maderia for our 30th wedding anniversay in December. Any idea what weather we can expect, will it be possible to swim in outdoor pool. Also any tips on places to see, eat etc, especially for our anniversary dinner. Also any info on walking Levadas would be appreciated, are these graded organised walks or do you 'go alone'. What is the situation as regards the above in mid/late Sepember? Is it still hot then? How relaxed/formal is the island?
Does the venicular run every day?

Hi,

is it still warm enough to swim in sea and outdoor pools in September. I note some hotels say they have heated outdoor pools - but not those I'm interested in.
I wanted a hotel that had direct sea access - Crowne Plaza - any thoughts too?
Any advice appreciated.

The site www.madeira-web.com says that during February and March Funchal is covered in cloud (known as the helmet!). Has anybody any experience of this? Does the sun ever shine through or is it dull the whole time? I don't want really hot sunshine but think that none at all might be a bit depressing.
