Could someone tell me what's the weather like in last week of August and the first of September?

What places are best for a vacation for a family with small children? We would like to have a classical summer vacation (sunbathing, etc).

Hello, I am arriving Funchal by cruise ship on 5May, 2006. I am looking for a company that specializes in day hikes; pick up and drop off at the pier in Funchal and would have to get me back before the ship sails away at 5p.

I have done a lot of searching online and it appears all organized hiking tours are more than 1 day long. I did see the "on your own" hiking tours on VT; I'm really looking for something a bit more organized with a tour leader.

have booked to go to madeira in january stopping at the hotel orca praia nr fuchal,will be going with my girlfreind but would like to do some birdwatching when she lets me ,is there any good places for this and should i see much birdlife in jan,also is their boat trips to see the sea lions on the offshore islands please?or if there isnt is there any good boat trips for dolphin or whale watching please,as you can see i like my wildlife so any other places that might interest please tell cheers if can help

I'm thinking of going to Funchal for a week from 31 October to 6 November. Is it a good idea in terms of weather? Is it usually a rainy period or not? Can you swim in early November?

Maybe it's a very strange question, but it's like this:

Together with Iris (my now nearly 4 years old daughter) we collect pins for on your walking stick. We have been to the island of Madeira when Iris was exactly 1 year young and just a few days ago we noticed that we didn't buy 1 in Madeira.

Does anybody have any idea how to get 2 of these pins? Of course I will pay that someone for the cost to make (buying and sending). I hope you all know what kind of pins I mean, otherwise I would sent you a picture of our walking sticks to get the idea.

Can anyone suggest the best way to learn the basics of the language Obviously, it would ideal to be with people all the time , but apart from that any suggestions?

Within a few weeks I'm going to Madeira (Funchal) for some months to do a job. I've never been there and I would like to have a general view on the city of Funchal before I arrive!

So how is the general atmosphere in the city?!? Can you compare it with another place in the world? How is the nightlife, which kind of clubs do you have overthere? So you see; all information about the city of Funchal is welcome! Thanx in advance!

I'm thionking of going to Madeira for a week next June/July with my boyfriend, and I was wondering if anyone can roccomend anywhere to stay. We are looking for a hotel that has a pool, any board basis, but somewhere that has some historical/places of interest, because although I want a relaxing Holiday, my boyfriend needs to be able to look around things, or he will just annoy me when I'm trying to chill out.

We have found a hotel on a B&B basis that looks nice based in Funchal called Vila Vicencia, anyone know anything about it?

We (9 adult extended family members) will be visiting Madeira in the end of June. My husband & I are looking forward to doing some levada walks (we're in our early 50's) but I'm not sure what kind of outings I'll be able to plan for Mom & Dad (they're in their mid 80's). Can anyone offer me advice on places we can take them where there is little incline (c'mon there's gotta be some places!!!)...or other such "easy-going" outings would be greatly appreciated!

We will be in Madeira in May. Is Porto Santo an easy day trip, to lay on the beach and such, and then make it back to Madeira in the evening? Does Porto Santo have any night life?

The travel agency offers us Pestana Palms to go for our September vacations. Pictures look really nice. BUT: Does anybody have a clue what's it like? If the beach is nice and what about the service? Any good restaurants around to go? I would really appreciate your comments.

We are canadian athletes that will participate to the 2004 Triathlon World Championships in Funchal, Madeira next May.

We are looking for a house or a cottage to rent for 2 weeks. Approxiimate dates would be from May 1st to May 15th. We won't be renting a car so the house must be close to the triathlon site and easy access with our bikes. We would be 4 - 6 athletes.

We would like to get some advise on nice and affordable places to stay during our trip.

I am planning a trip to Madeira in either May or September, still trying to decide. Does anyone know how expensive or how pleasant it would be to take a boat from Lisbon to Madeira as oppposed to a flight? Just curious.
